remains the center of attention, getting grilled by others for anything and everything he had done, but Seanald's return painted him in a worse light than intended, as speculation abounded as to where he actually went.

Slowly, the sunlight dwindles down, and people increasingly have a burning desire to get a lynch on people they see having contributed to the lack of discussion, a profile they deem Seanald to fit.

Rena

and Bulbazak remain figures of interest, but increasingly, the gathered citizens feel frustrated enough, their emotions boiling over to a breaking point.

A quick search of Seanald's bag reveals more contents--he possesses a badge which identifies him as a doctor at the local hospital. While not impossible to fake, furthering his credentials to being truthful are the piles of medical supplies present.

Along with various encrypted medical records, it looks as if Seanald was no actor.

Hope remains that the dead could be enemies, but the closest they find to anything suspicious is

and her binoculars and video surveillance equipment. She had claimed to be a stalker, so clearly she was a little bit demented in the mind, but she has no weapons on her and a search of her house (while revealing a lot of creepily-detailed facts about certain people) reveals nothing incriminating.

The other casualty of the night is an enigmatic person that everyone struggled to figure out. He had been soft-spoken (or even not speaking at all) originally, but became a boisterous verbal bruiser as time progressed. Some had thought him to be mafia, while others were dead-certain he was working for the town. And as it turned out, he was. Both dead, and a devoted citizen of the town.

Daniel Ulrich Mauer is a German-born immigrant. He majored in engineering, and holds dual minors in history and philosophy. A true gentleman and a scholar, you could say. An elderly man, you would barely know of his origins, as he displays absolutely perfect English, speaking it better than most natives. It's hard to find a cool old guy like him around.

When he came to this then-blessed city, he began work as a stress-tester on cars. There, he gained the nickname of "Dummie", because at that time in his youth, he was seen as a bumbling idiot who barely understood the language. Yet he persevered. He worked hard and long to build an establishment in this country and to make his name well-known. Whereas in his youth he displayed anger and aggression to those making fun of him, by a few years later, he had mellowed out.

What once was a mark of shame became a badge of honor, him taking up the name Dummie with pride. For the last ten years of his life, he has been working on the effects of texting when driving, along with the ensuing accidents to come of them. Thus, Daniel Ulrich Mauer when he moved into this suburb streetland was introduced to the neighbors as

CrashTextDummie

, a man to be widely-respected and revered by the children surrounding him.

<<< The deaths of Rena and Nero Cain left the citizen's spirits low. They may have made progress with the death of Sean Alderson, but their group of justice-seeking leaders had shrunk to half its original size. Doubt. Fear. Anger. Paranoia. Apathy. All of the gathered had been part of the original council, or replacements of trusted council members. Yet still, they were being killed. Still, they had people inside their group working for the mafia. When would it end? When would the threat be over? Surely, they were getting close. Surely, there couldn't be

many left, after the deaths of Red Ryu, thezmon221, and Seanald.

leaves to sort things out for a while, and he's far from the only person to do so.

all take their own breaks, and in the case of CrashTextDummie, they even fear the old man has had a heart attack and died, but he returns all the same to help smooth things out.

For a while, PeregrineV is the clear choice for the day, his suspicious behavior getting him dangerously close to the threshhold (falling a mere one vote short), but the push falls apart, in favor of one on

Human Destroyer

, which gains nearly just as much momentum. However, ultimately, none of those three are chosen, as a dark horse candidate is selected. One who in previous days would never have come to attention at all, his good, solid reputation carrying him through.

CrashTextDummie, at literally the last hour of the day, is put on the spot. He had been held in such high respect to this point that nobody had seriously considered him a threat until now, when whispers abounded as to what he could be doing. Surely, an old man such as him would be trustworthy, so many shrugged it off. But as far as residents go, the older you are, the higher the chances that you hide a dark secret. Speculation spread, that perhaps his old age was being used as an excuse, and that he didn't have the problems that he claimed to possess. While ultimately shot down with extensive medical records and medications proving that he was truthful, the critical seeds of doubt had been planted.

And with no better candidate, that was all it took. A lesser man may have lashed out in fury or anger. Not the composed CrashTextDummie. Closing his eyes, nodding, and smiling, he walked with dignity to his demise. Only when the noose was around his neck did his composure begin to crack, and even then, only mildly so, as a few tears come streaking down his face.

It is difficult to tell for what he is crying. Sadness for mistakes in the past? Sadness for loss? Be it loss of a future or loss of friends and family in the past? For once, paranoia had paid off, as it appeared that their elderly friend had a dark side he had kept carefully hidden. The anger of his youth having so suddenly disappeared should have been a tip-off that he had instead found a way to vent it, at the cost of others. He had a humble job, and humble spendings, which kept his activities hidden, but the subtle signs, in hindsight, were there, that he was a violent criminal in disguise, brutally thrashing the competition. While he never really rose through the ranks with his day-job, signs point to him having risen through his underworld activities, as he trained others like he himself had been trained. Whether he was the last survivor or not cannot yet be determined, but regardless of whether he was or not, the trials of the citizens are not yet over.

In hindsight, the German being so fond of Italian food was probably a large tip-off. >>>

But like all previous encounters, it would take a fool not to realize...they would soon pay the price. Come dawn, they would wake to find...a record number dead for them to have their lesson learned. Across the city there were dozens upon dozens dead, and from our fabled group, there were three. All gone.

This served as a bit of a reminder: while the citizens were fighting on their own turf, this conflict existed on a much grander scale. Admiral Theodore James Johnson (known by everyone as

ThAdmiral

), a retired veteran of war, clenched in his bloody hand a revolve with only three cartridges in it. Nearby, Cedric Phlox Richardson (shortened to

Cephrir

), also a military veteran (albeit a slightly younger one), lay dead as well, the skilled hunter having been slain. But few expected the third member of their gathering to be gone, as Baily Aether Zhukov (nicknamed

Baezu

), an immigrant (from who the hell knows where) that had been trusted by Baron von Cedar (

Bacde

), had also been claimed by the violence. Though not all bad news, as searching through the hunter's stash gives clues; he had apparently given out his services as a professional, but to people who're rather questionable.

In the middle of the gore, it's impossible to tell how or when they were killed, but it had certainly been a bloody fight. The citizens that survive pay their respects and leave, and once again decide its time for some justice outside the law. Determined not to lose, they go with resolution into the day. >>>

And that extra personality eventually disappeared, leaving Hector alone, and insisting on his nickname once more.

For a very large amount of time, he had largely flown under the radar. He had contributed plenty, yet despite this bountiful contribution to the community, nobody really took notice of him. Until recently, that is, when this very lack of attention itself began to become suspicious. He might have helped get rid of mafia, but people insist that he was never among the stronger pushers.

He continues to insist, however, that he HAD been among their best, but to no avail. "You were useless when we needed you to get that zany demon."

"Yeah, and after his death, you stopped actively giving your thoughts as often!"

"Short little bursts of insight, and then, nothing, for hours. Just silence."

"Your efforts helped to sabotage our attempts to lynch Seanald!"

"And when we finally did, you didn't even help!"

"I nearly died once before. I've paid my dues!"

"But you survived! And on that day, we took out CrashTextDummie--again, without your help!"

"You insisted that ThAdmiral was mafia, too, trying to end his life."

"You've been against us this whole time!"

The harder Human Destroyer fought to clear his name, the more people began to turn against him. "You're all idiots! Can't you see?!?"

"Oh, yes. We were blind before to have let you go. But now...you can't hide."

They were certain of it. He had been undermining their work since the beginning. He had been laying just low enough to avoid scrutiny, while pushing things just hard enough to get the wrong people into the noose. He had the attitude of a mafiate, too. The arrogance, the pride, to think himself better.

And it was time to end this. With so few left, he could very well be the last of his kind, with his death serving to make the streets just that more clean. Thus, with little hesitation, the gathered citizens string him up in near-record time, finishing with enough time to take for lunch, brushing off his death as an assured death of their enemy.

It wasn't until near the end of the day that the people decided that they should go through the formalities of actually searching through his stuff. They knew they'd find the gun and the notes somewhere, but it takes them much longer to search his possessions than they anticipate.

He wasn't carrying a gun on his body. Where could it be? In his bags? No, not there. It would probably be in his house, then, along with the notes from whatever meetings he had been attending.

Searching until the sun has faded, tearing his house apart, they find nothing.

It couldn't be!

They couldn't have made a mistake! Not after so many victories! They had killed so many mafia, and seen so many dead mafia, they were on a roll! Their streak couldn't have been broken!

But no evidence shows up. In their recklessness...in their haste...they may have ended up condemning themselves and sealing their fates.

Heartstriken, they abandon the search, and head back to their own abodes, dreading what was to come.

They had failed.

And now, they were yet again at severe risk as a result. There was no twist. There was no sudden reveal. There was no hope in his death. Just the emptiness of another casualty of war. For all that buildup, they had nothing.

At their homes, they dread what would follow. The battle was once again no longer in their control...... >>>

A sense of uneasiness abounds. The streets this night were unusually quiet. After such violence the night before, it appeared as if they might not be back for more. But in that silence comes the fear. The mafia wouldn't just disappear. No, they were still around, and that made the night all the more terrifying.

The citizens wait. And wait. Most of them have trouble getting a full night's sleep--or even half a night's sleep. Restlessness abounds. The night is long, and continues to be dark. No stars adorn the sky, as they are blanketed by a black cloud that refuses to blow away. The moon gives no light, too faint to be seen through the cloak of the night. With the streets falling into disrepair, even the lights of lamp-posts are scarce, most of them burnt out and the few remaining being dimmed.

Conditions couldn't be more perfect. And yet, nothing seems to be coming. No violent muggings, no street shootings, no drunkards staggering through the suburbs, not even teenagers smoking pot. Fear had driven them all away, to seek refuge in their homes. And people hold a dim hope, that maybe, just maybe, the mafia would also stay.

The battle had clearly taken its toll on everyone. The denizens of the streets, the mafia, and even those not directly involved. It couldn't last much longer. The icy breeze chills the air. While not strong enough to be a deafening roar, the whir of the wind against metal is clear enough in the minds of everyone.

The nights were getting colder. The days seemingly becoming shorter. It's as if the very world itself was bellowing for this feud to finish, begging, pleading, for it to be resolved one way or another. For the toll against all is too much to sustain. Nobody likes fighting wars. Least of all ones that are this bloody.

So when the light of dawn finally peaks over the horizon, the six remaining resolve to end it. The warmth of the day is faint indeed, but it's enough for them to realize...their freedom was near. Though some clouds linger, for the most part, the day appears to be clear. And as they gather, with this devotion, they stop, pause, and realize...

"Wait...only six?"

<<< The day was long and drawn out, as the intense debate seemed never to end. It had to end soon. It had to be over. They had to get it right, or else, everyone could die.

Not a single ray of sun shines down on them throughout the miserable day. The clouds above reflect the moods of the citizens, war-weary and suffering from fatigue. Their bodies ache from the stressful lives they've been going through in the last week, and they have come to realize just how bleak their hopes are.

But they have no choice but to soldier on and hope they persevere. And despite their self-assurance, it's clear: the dominant emotion today is fear. Fear of death, fear of loss, fear of the great cost to happen next, should they fail. A dark and dreary day indeed, especially during the times where the discussion goes stale.

Whether through victory or defeat, one thing remains clear: soon everyone would be freed, that end being so near. Discussion abounds, but conclusions are never reached. As soon as one breakthrough is found, they back out at the last minute and cannot perform the deed.

The

Amethyst Kitty

is put on the line, but after a mental breakdown, it's decided to spare her for now. Turned into Miss Marangal, the direction they had found is dissipated. Replacing this is both

penguin_alien

and

Nachomamma8

, with the latter dominating and the former changing. Much to his chagrin,

Bulbazak

takes the stage, and things are set as one of the two being lynched is taken as a given.

They fight, they spar, they master wordcraft. Silver tongues clashing, both equally skilled. Nobody wanted to go, yet somebody had to. The lynch on Bulbazak contained more bite, but those against Nacho are not behind that far. At last, Nacho takes the lead, via penguin_alien's vote to kill. Dusk was approaching they all know, and with nearly zero light remaining, doubting herself was all it took for the scales to tip anew.

It had ended; there was nothing left of the day.

Lightning flashes, thunder clashes, and the blackness of the night begins to come in. It was now or never and they were desperate to win. While not having reached a true majority, there's more support for Bulbazak than any other.

Kicking and screaming, he fought for as long as he could, but three against one meant it wasn't long before he couldn't go any further. So taken to the platform made of that wood, it was time for a lynching.

Zachary Baker Blue had lived his life fairly low-key. Always quiet, fairly stoic, he never stood out. While naturally muscular and with a giant build, he wasn't very memorable. He grew up to work as a bouncer, a job with no glory to it at all. Underneath the silence, there was a mind of genius that was waiting to be unleashed, yet never found a chance through meek job opportunities.

With no connections established and a deeply anti-social personality, he was reduced to a brute muscle, his talented mind never educated. He had no career opportunities, he had no way to seek the education he desired, he had nothing to do other than engage in a life of helping others obtain vices that he himself was denied. A thug, but an efficient one, he did what he could to obtain a decent income, eventually gaining access to things of pleasure: a brilliant gambler, a heavy drinker (but never a drunkard), a smoker, and perhaps enjoying some other leisures best left unsaid.

An unremarkable man, to say the least, but not a man who could be guilty of anything, as far as the eye can see.

...Oh, who am I kidding? I've used that fake-out too many times.

Yet the numbers didn't add up. How could he afford all that he did, when working a job that payed so little? It's because, despite all of the mediocrity to come with the job, his work gave him deep connections within the underworld, connections he had used to wiggle his way into their ranks. The red districts of towns became like a siren's song to him, enjoying the bounties of a despicable lifestyle. Retaining his raw strength and brutal build, he had done more than refine his mind--he had perfected it, mastering the art of strategic underground dealing--and when deals went south, how to best exploit them.

No different now, he had been around the whole time. His intellect shined through with both his ability to be in the group at all and his survival thusfar. More than just a thug, he had been an assassin, trained to kill mercilessly. And now, he lay there in the noose, ready to hang. Injecting some illegal drug into his system to dull the pain, lighting a cigarette to numb his system even further, and wearing his crimson garb, he ultimately jumps off himself, dieing on his own terms rather than those of his opponents. His neck not snapping, he smiles as the life is slowly strangled from him, flipping his middle finger at the remaining five. You would think that having a rope around your neck would prevent you from talking, but if you're Bulbazak, you'd be wrong. As he is flipping the bird at the citizens, he leaves them with his parting words:

That the night was darkest before the dawn. Yet the clouds hovering above them constantly, blotting out the sun, imply otherwise. Empty houses have fallen into disrepair. Nobody dares move into the hellhole that had once been so good. Things had looked so bright. Everything had been so alive. Everyone's future looked to be good. Everyone's lives were going as they should. But now...now the streets were all worn down. And the people there had been broken and torn. How could these streets swallow so much in so little time, and leave so little left of life? Death, destruction, and drugs dominate. Ideals have been broken, with such dreary days. So much opportunity thrown into waste. So many people convinced they cannot be saved. Everyone wishing that they could be free, free of the misery and wishing for what used to be.

Life is such a fragile thing, all too easily broken and having lost their dreams.

(Okay. I admit it. I've been wanting to use the lyrics from that song ever since the beginning; do you know how long I've been restraining myself from tapping into the oh-so-appropriate lines?

)

Disrepair, disarray. Everyone fears that it's too late. Perhaps things could have been fixed, but now many fear that they've sunk that ship.

Roads barely traversable by car, sidewalks gone just as far. Winter's set in with its bitter cold, hovering just above zero so there's no snow. Yet with the wind chill snipping at everything, it feels cold enough to be freezing. Mother nature has begun to claim this land as her own, for with buildings collapsing and foliage growing, mankind has expired its loan. Such a sight should have beauty, but with the sky ever so darkening, it is a horror show full of screams.

This shoddy ghost of a town is the stuff of nightmares, the kind of place that begs the question of what happened there. Like many situations in life, it's never a single factor to have caused such strife. But when they begin to pile up, it's no surprise with all that awful stuff.

It could all be over, it could all be done. With things so bleak, most don't event think they ever could have won. Yet others had learned...never to give up until they were free. Be it free from this menace or free from the living, these tried and true few still remain to stop the killing. It doesn't matter if things can't return; they'll fight the good fight as their passion still burns. They had gotten one step closer to victory, so previously-broken spirits had been lifted just enough as they begin to think...

If the leaders of these destructive forces were indeed at the heart of their group...it'd only take their elimination in order to have those dark forces lose. The cloud over their heads may still be great, as the minimalistic lighting plagues them even during the day. But it'd be enough for them to at least try...even though it'd be certain at least one more would die.

Miss Mary Angel Galloway, AKA "

", a thirty-some resident at home, had always been a bit lonely. She often was seen talking with herself, and was highly quirky. She barely even wanted to be in the group, but ultimately, she had the strength and resolve to fight to be free. With the help of a split-off she called Katherine Mary Lanky, she with her obsession with purple lived under the alias of Amy Theresa Kitty, AKA, "Amethyst Kitty".

She had ultimately had a great disagreement that left her nearly shattered. But she didn't give up, and only lost half of her. Though shaken, she would not be deterred. She was in this, she was going to figure things out, she was a real fighter.

And it would come to a surprise to few that she would ultimately pay the price. So close to the end, and yet, she had died. A frost-laden house unfortunately was not kind. Despite the hopes of the remaining four, there was nothing to identify what caused her death, despite how crucial it'd be to know with all their lives on the line.

This was it. This was the end. What they did this day could very well determine their ultimate fates. With how things were going...this could be their final day. >>>

<<< It had been over a week since war had broken out. Such a short time, and yet, it feels like an eternity had passed. (Or if not an eternity, then at least a whole five months.) This small suburb had seen enough crime and violence in its time to fill the depths of hell with horror stories to haunt generations down the line.

Though the fighting had been focused in the streets, this conflict had clearly spread to the very city they live in, perhaps having even originated from there. Wherever the fighting may have started, though, it became clear that it reached its peak in the urban forest that the remaining survivors call their home. The ice cold chill of winter had come in, with all the life in the area save for the humans themselves having long-since retreated away. The streets have decayed to the point where even if things somehow got better, it would take years to reclaim the wreckage, if that were even possible at all.

So many were gone. So few remained. And of those who refused to be claimed...even they were not as strong as they used to be. While stubbornly refusing to leave, their inner strength had long-since wavered, decaying as their lives continued to rot like the world around them. Fear and isolation dominate, and the mood consistent throughout the realm is apocalyptic. Once so unified together as a people, they now divided in their desperation, once so secure, and now clinging on to preservation in a futile effort to deny the inevitable truth of their world. This turf war had grown so murky that it would not be a stretch to say those fighting the evil have become evils themselves that can be just as bad if not worse people.

Regardless of what side they had started on, one thing is universal: the war-weariness of them all had grown to such a point, where their motives are blended together. Survival is the universal goal, one which must be taken away from someone at some point. Something was bound to give. Perhaps multiple things, but time would tell, as the night dragged on.

In these maniacal streets, silly ideals had been broken by the harsh truths of reality. Pride and selfishness, greed, envy, wrath of blindly seeking vengeance, a lust for victory, gluttony for punishment, apathy, and despair had turned even their best into bitter sinners. If anyone were to so much as LIVE, they still would never truly be alive again. Not after the horrors they had seen. Nobody comes back from that. Not the same. How could they? The trauma was too severe, the stresses too great.

Corruption is more than dishonesty and bribery. True corruption is the alteration of an idea to be twisted into something it was never meant to be. With even the best of intentions having been lost, yes, it can be said that corruption lies at the heart of all humans. You just need to find the right trigger, the right "price" to be paid, and all the idealism in the world falls to ashes in the bitter hearts of cynicism.

Tarred by the bleakness, then, it is a true testament to human spirit that they are still willing to try. Perhaps it's denial. Perhaps it's the faintest of hopes. Perhaps because they cannot think of anything else. Perhaps because they want to see it through to the end. Perhaps because they are in denial and still believe their lies to be the truth. But whatever the reason, it remains admirable that they still try, to obtain the order they had so devastatingly lost. The weak had been weeded out, in favor of the strongest. Or perhaps, the strongest had died and left only the weak. But in letting the weak live, they have gained a new strength in having not perished, in having made it this far, something that if they can take it one step further, they can learn from.

They had all fallen from grace. But it was about time to clean up their act.

One way or another, today would be the last day this conflict could continue. They don't know if the results have been predetermined or if they can still win this fight. But it's clear...that the three remaining at least survived the night.

One had died. Without a sound, without a shout. Under the cloud of darkness, a strike had been dealt, and those dreary black blankets continue to hide the sky as dawn reveals who the unfortunate departing soul is.

Jiffy Lube had been a nickname at one point that this great beast had taken--obsessed with peanut butter, this person took their food quite seriously.

Seen as perhaps a fury of a man...

...And yet, biologically, not one (and more beauty than anything else). This individual may have had a habit of pirating things from the internet, but when it came to practical terms, Mother Lethal Lies (mollie, for short) had no practical talents. She originally kept insisting that she was two individuals, the beast and the beauty, but eventually, the catastrophe of this city left her absolutely shattered, having a mental breakdown wrecking her sense of identity. Fundamentally broken, she had reformed into a hurricane force, launching back into the fury of the fight. This ferocious fery of a new second personality was a beacon to light the way, their combined essence allowing for a coherent woman. Filled with iron-hard defenses, they took on the nickname

to not only endure the storm...but become it.

Ultimately, she had been sacrificed, with one final cry to the survivors in her notes.

While the exact wording is best not said, the gist of the note is simple--live on and continue the fight.

It had to end. She, THEY, had died loyal to the streets. The question on everyone's minds is whether it was for nothing, or if they can actually make her sacrifice hold meaning. >>>

He felt lost. Doubt wrecked his mind, as he considered if

Nacho and penguin could be scumbags of different kinds, making a victory on the streets impossible, but ultimately, he held onto that slim hope that he could win. That he wouldn't lose.

It might have only been a little more than a week, yet things feel as if they have been drawn on for far longer than that, leaving restless spirits about, waiting impatiently to be finally released from the mortal coil or forever bound to it. All it'd take, now, was some precious few seconds for their destinies to be decided.

But what would it be? Could the honest citizens actually pull it off? Anguishing over it for far too long, all PeregrineV could do is pray that he could do the right thing.

And the faithful words come out of his mouth, sealing the deal once and for all. And all he could do is to wait, as things would be revealed one way or another. With just three remaining, and with one now in the noose, with only two left, there would be a resolution to the conflict. But...what would it be?

Nacho went out cursing PeregrineV. Impossible to remain collected after such an ordeal, it is fair to say that he lost it just as much as PeregrineV did, but in a vastly different way. He cursed his name, out of anger, out of frustration, out of utter disappointment that...that...

this

is how it would all end. However, undeterred, PeregrineV pushed through.

And while understanding the decision, Nacho just stood there, in disbelief.

It was over.

"It shouldn't have ended like this."

"I'm sorry. But this is how it is."

And with that...Nacho was put to death. Many words could have been exchanged. Many emotions certainly were. But an eerily-long silence crept over the streets (moreso than normal), signifying something major having happened.

It had ended.

"Did...did we do it?" PeregrineV asked penguin_alien as twilight's light glistened a brilliant red on the two of them, the last of the yellows having already begun to fade into the night.

"Did we...win?"

"Yeah...we did."

*BAM*

A brief look of horror flashes across the face of the victim, having suddenly been claimed by the violence in the moment least expected. And in this weakened state, it took every bit of energy PeregrineV had to stand and face his attacker.

There, him bleeding with a wound to the gut, he stared at penguin_alien. He wasn't in shock. Rather, not from being shot. While disappointed, while sad, while angry at himself that he would never get a chance at a full life, to finish the work he had started...none of that really mattered to him. What really mattered was the face on his assailant, and that was certainly not what he expected to see.

The simple look in her eyes told the whole story, without a need for complex words. There was no pleasure at securing a kill, or at achieving that final victory. There was no dispassionate coldness of a professional killer having just claimed their final bounty. No...the look on her face is that, almost the same as his own, of a human being undergoing the deepest emotions of all.

For she held a sorrow in her heart, regretting everything, and that look of sadness was enough for him, in his final moments, to tell. That she was cursed to live. That she didn't want any of this but was going through it anyway. That she truly loved, respected, cared, and admired for others, but ultimately, held loyalty to a single man,

That regret, yet that determination, yet that feeling of loneliness and emptiness. Yes, he had known those all too well to ever miss them coming from his assassin. This was not a victory either side would have enjoyed. For now...she had nobody. Nothing left. But the ashes of her former home, ruined by the decay of time, rotting into a hellhole. No, she desired that just as little as any other citizen would have, and seeing it happen broke her heart.

So much death. So much loss. So much wasted life, so much wasted potential, so much lost forever to never be regained. She knew this, and so did he.

Complex words could have been given, but simple words worked just as well, to point respect and admiration to each other, for having danced the good dance and let it conclude.

So in the moments after he is shot, once recovering from the shock, PeregrineV simply smiles.

"Well-done."

No curse to have bad luck, no wish for a comeback (though obviously wishing he could take his original decision back), and even wishing her better fame and fortune than she had held thusfar in life.

A simple parting, between two who could be considered friends, despite their opposing end-objectives. That was all that need be said.

And, after collapsing to his knees, wavering, ready to fall into death, he was caught by his shooter, who gently let him drift to the ground. His eyes closing, blurred vision, he can't help but notice that penguin_alien was tearing up herself, holding a weak smile, and unable to utter the words, yet feeling them all the same.

'Thank you'. Not given in a condescending 'thank you for giving me the victory' way. A heartfelt feeling of gratitude for everything.

And it's that feeling which lets him pass with ease, ending his life in the mortal coil, and leaving the lone survivor around to pick up the mess and reforge things as she saw fit.

She was not CrashTextDummie. She couldn't hope to fulfill his vision. But...she could create one of her own. >>>

, had died that day. She lived on, as her foster-father CrashTextDummie had intended her to do, but she was a changed woman, whose outlook on life had been permanently altered. Reflecting these changes, she had decided to leave that name behind her. Needing a somewhat-plausible explanation to avoid the short hand of the law, she decided it would be best if she were legally dead, taking on the name of the actually-dead Rena, and even her alias of Haylen.

While it took some pulling of the strings to work, it worked well enough that nobody questioned her word or her identity. After all...now? Now...she ruled more than just the streets. She had avoided being caught, and now controlled everything. She might not have wanted it, but she did her best to handle things as delicately as she could, to make her own will, her own vision, come true as a result of this tragedy.

Yes. It had taken far too long to do, but she had crafted the streets that had once been maniacal back into a paradise similar to what they had used to be. While silently ruling from the underground as an invisible dictator, there was peace. The city was prospering. The crime rate became the absolute lowest it had ever been, exceeding most cities in how rare it was, simply because she now was the head of the only organized crime existing.

The red empire had long-since fallen apart. Its ring-leaders dead, and made up mostly of greedy thugs, they eventually imploded on themselves and were wiped out. With the citizens pacified and the law under her control, she had created happiness, even if it was happiness through unseen slavery.

Though the nasty things such as drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and, ah, "finer" pleasures in life, still exist, Alison's regulations became so strict (especially when it comes to children) that they run like a business in their efficiency and usage policy.

This is undoubtedly not what the original denizens of the streets had wanted--but she had done in two years what they couldn't have done in twenty. It certainly was more kind-hearted than the ruthless schemes of her predecessor, but she saw no issues with that. Yes...this was power used well, and power that had influence continue to grow.

She ruled not just the city, but the entirety of the underground world, having expanded outward and conquered all her rivals just as she had previously learned to do. She even got positions of high power--including the President of the nation, to be under her domain.

This was true power, this was true strength. She was the queen of the world, "Haylen", having entirely fulfilled a promise to never stop expanding.

Yes, Alison may hold the day job of running an orphanage, but her night job is supporting so many community activities and so many things funded by her business. Including the project to rebuild her shattered suburb, paying living families of the deceased anonymous compensation, and the creation of a memorial that honored the lost souls to her struggle.

Cedric Phlox Richardson was a military veteran, having served in eight conflicts over his term of service. A competent marksman and excellent tracker, he was known for his cold, professional attitude. A bit of a loner, he never worked well in teams, and it should come as no surprise that he did not socialize with others well.

When his tour of duty was finished, he landed in the middle of our recession, left with no job and no support. Left to beg on the streets, his skills were eventually realized, and he became a professional stalker in the underground, able to execute missions with militaristic precision. Introduced to the various goods in the underground world (including drugs), he found himself incapable of leaving, preferring the life of crime.

It wasn't long before his ambition drove him to seek control of his life, sick of taking orders and being screwed over by others. It is this common mindset which got

Cephrir

into contact with his allies.

Nathaniel Charles Morgenson the eight came from a long line of Morgensons who held the same ordinary lifestyle. Having no family trade, they had a long familial history of being jacks of all trades, and masters of none. Well-studied and well-versed on most subjects, researching them thoroughly, they all had a certain level of charm to them.

thought these talents could help him solve the problems in the community, volunteering to be a strong voice in the community, but ultimately, his life was claimed in the string of violent murders.

David Louis Green emmigrated from the city life, living peacefully in an isolated rural community for the rest of his life. Though constantly coming back to the fight, and longing for a chance to meet his lover once again, he resolved to put a close to that chapter in his life, never returning to see the results, and never being bothered by them either.

Peter Rene Green the fifth, a distant cousin of

insisting on the nickname "

PeregrineV

" immigrated to the streets from the city, called to them by his distant cousin DLG to take care of their family house. Kind-hearted and good with numbers, being a math teacher before having moved, he resolved to find the answer to the equations involving the chaos on the streets, believing that math could instill order.

Daniel "

Action Dan

" Knight, a hardened veteran of war, held a peaceful city life for years, seemingly unphased. However, when exposed to situations in the streets dangerously close to things he had been through, a severe case of Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder caused him to have a severe mental breakdown, confining him to an insane asylum. Though crazy, he is one of the few to have lived through the ordeal.

Hank "Hanzo" Soldier, a fifth member of his squad, was personally selected to replace the incoherent madman. Unfortunately, he seemed to fall into an identical pattern as his predecessor, unable to keep up with the madness around him. His promises empty, he carted himself off to check in voluntarily to be along-side his war-buddy Danny.

Admiral Theodore James Johnson, known simply as

ThAdmiral

, was a middle-aged veteran of multiple wars, and good friends with ActionDan and Hanzo_5. Known for his stealth and decent accuracy, he was selected to come in and help by their words, personally. Inheriting a revolver, he is said to have gone out hunting, but to what effect remains ambiguous.

Nero Cain

Hitler, an unfortunately-named individual, had the same delusions of power that his name might suggest. An enigma, nobody is truly certain where he came from. All that's known is that he was murdered mid-way into the massacres in the streets.

, real name unknown, fled into obscurity, not to be seen again. What is known about him is not much, other than that he was, in fact, a he.

Baron von Cedar, known as

Bacde

, mild royalty, was a long-time resident of the streets, living in a rather luxurious house. When thoughts of his home being threatened arrived, he didn't hesitate to volunteer. However, an accident involving fire left him charred close to death, which forced him to leave.

Baily Aether Zhukov, otherwise called

Baezu

, was a poor immigrant who held decent ties to the baron, who got him into the world. Though not strong in English, he was smart, aiming to eventually procure a job as a counselor giving advice to others.

And last, but not least...
Alison Leah Ien was an orphan on the streets. Found by Daniel Ulrich Mauer begging on the streets, he took her under his wing as a protégé to become a potential successor. Growing up under his tutelage and treating him as a father, she learned a lot about the world, including a lot on cars. However, her true passion was to open an orphanage, to help prevent what happened to her from happening to others.

A calm, quite, and kind-hearted woman, humble and fair in passing verdicts, she was a practically-perfect person. Though harboring a dark secret, she did her best to remain respectful, sending her best to those who, like her, had survived. And that is something she is still burdened by. No others had lost as much as she had, nor seen the horrors of the war more intimately. Though she tries her best to cover it up, those things will continue to haunt her for the rest of her live, constantly lingering about her. All the death, over almost nothing worthwhile. That level of trauma leaves some fundamental scarring on a person at their most basic level, giving them post-traumatic stress.

It's not easy coping with the aftermath. Least of all coming from someone who had grown to despise killing, yet ultimately did more than any other. More than that, watching them all die was horrific. Her entire family died, with only her left to survive. To this very day, whenever thinking about it, she breaks down and cries. That loss, that pain, can never fade. But she did what she could, to recover, to normalize.

Living a seemingly small life, she manages an orphanage. It was in this orphanage that she spotted a young man. Constantly getting into fights and trying to obtain illegal substances, full of hatred, full of rage, and yet, absolutely brilliant. Still but a child, she sensed in him the potential to pass on her own legacy, one that with luck, she could make be a good one.

Things are quiet. Things have finally become peaceful, albeit at great cost. Life may not be good, but it is better than in most places. Life exists, even if freedom doesn't. With time, seasons pass and wounds of winters begin to heal with the oncoming of summer. A richness and vibrancy has sprouted from what had been decay, even if it comes at a price. People might not hold the same trust they once did of one another, but they get along well enough, helping around when they can. And most of all...things are safe. Secure. Without challenge. Though troubles are bound to exist, none are so daunting as to be impossible to overcome.

There may always be a criminal life, but that life does not necessitate the misery of all. It might be a maniacal situation, but it's a solution that has at least been filled with the order we so desperately seek in our lives.

Their act had been cleaned up, and while not in the way they intended for it to be...it would at least...be enough to satisfy everyone. After all...life sucks. But they'll go on living it, anyway. >>>

One risk of writing flavor for role PMs is not giving away info, something I didn't really have much of a grasp on. That was basically one of my largest modding mistakes. An utter lack of ambiguity in a fair number of the PMs, as you'll especially see in the kill PMs. (I get better later-on, after I REALIZED I was being unambiguous.)

As you round a corner, you catch out of the corner of your eye a man lying down, presumably out of intoxication, and continue your rant, mentioning those who can't hold their liquor.

But soon after, you see another man, sneaking away from the scene. Continuing your ranting as to not tip them off that you've spotted them, you try to eye where they are going, to maybe have a hint as to who they are and what they were doing in the middle of the night. "I SWEAR TO MY BEARD THAT--"

But while your eyes wander in the direction you saw the shadowy figure go, they are away from right in front of you, and when you eventually

look forward, there's someone pointing a silenced gun straight at your chest.

By the time that last statement had been finished, the life has already been mostly drained from you, and it's not long before you rise up into the sky, joining your fellow slain in the halls of Valhalla for those who had died fighting for the cause.

...When you wake up, you realize someone hit you REALLY hard on the head, almost enough to have killed you. You're lucky to have escaped death, but you realize you've been moved, resting quite uncomfortably over a fire hydrant. You hear the rantings of an old man, which you suppose is what woke you up, and moaning, you grip your head wound. It's surprisingly not bleeding, and you seem like you're okay, so you begin to stagger onwards.

You're still fairly close to Cephrir's house, but after the mugging you received and with the throbbing pain from the wound making you feel as if you have a hangover, you decide that you've had enough for a night, and should just stutter towards your home.

Your investigation of Cephrir has failed.

Disappointed, you keep on thinking and thinking about how things went wrong, how you were careless, how you need to be more careful next time, how you need to succeed in getting something concrete. Pondering your failure, you don't hear the roaring of an engine until it's right next to you, headlights off--uh-oh.

...Not the best night to have had, but it happened all the same. You're now dead, but at least you've got a good view!

After all, these streets would soon fall. You've been living a high life of luxury, and it's been built out of a life of bad deeds. You know you can harvest that power, just if you live a bit longer. This place would begin your empire, after you burn it all down with fire. First you'd have to get rid of the residents, who one-by-one are falling thanks to your presence.

A few days more is all you need, before this maniacal street is consumed by greed.

silently work your way into his bedroom. Your toe having been stubbed by hitting whatever you did (geez, how do the mafia do it? They clearly make it look so easy; do they have some magical ability to see in the dark?), it's a bit difficult, but you manage it all the same.

It's too dark to see for sure if you're actually aiming at his body, but you get close enough where you can tell that there's something in his bed, and can guess that it's him. Aiming as carefully as you can, you take a shot when you're reasonably sure you'll hit him.

And the deed done, you depart from his house carefu--*CRISH* Oh, goddammit. Well, he wouldn't be needing that plate, anyway, come morning. Still, it made a lot of noise, so you hastily make your exit and return home for the night, too exhausted to continue talks with PV. You'd have to wait until morning to tell if you actually shot Bulbazak, but one thing's for sure: you are now down to only two bullets.

You successfully took a shot last night and have two bullets remaining.

Coming today. The short-short version for the post-game thoughts, though, is that despite everyone's reassurances that I'm an awesome mod, I'm a terrible terrible mod who made a bundle-load of mistakes.

I'm not going to be modding another game until I can assure myself that I'm not going to let myself get overwhelmed. (Which probably means half a year from now, circa July 2014.) I'm not going to mod another normal game, because I don't want to walk the line again with flavor. (Theme games give you freedom to write flavor. Flavor that will still be just flavor, a fact I'll continue to emphasize, but flavor that is more acceptable and even expected to be given.) I'm not going to mod another large game for QUITE a while, because I don't think I can handle that many players with my current experience. This game was hard, and I think overall it was TOO hard for me to handle and ultimately overwhelmed me as a result, thanks to my obsessiveness. (Attention to detail, great skill for a mod who can put those details in for a few players. Attention to detail, bad skill to have when dealing with detailing two-dozen players.

To hold you over until I compile things. Random fun fact. I created a modding folder because this game was clouding my inbox* and outbox. Between messages sent and received (and subtracting, oh, about two dozen or so PMs regarding non-Maniacal-Street-Mafia modding stuff in said folder), I've got approximately 750 or so messages relating to this game. Likely about equally spread between sent and received (probably more sent, honestly), but you get the idea. This game filled nearly the entirety of my brand-new modding folder.

I'm going to need to split that folder in half. (Butyeah, that's one reason it's taking a while to get the flavor. While I have the flavor in my QT, I often made last-minute fixes/modifications to the flavor when I actually sent the PM that the QT version doesn't contain. Thus, tracking down the messages.)

*On average, I typically get 2-3 PMs a day, I'd estimate. Maybe a bit lower during times where I'm alive in games (counter-intuitively enough, the more games I'm alive in, the less PMs I get**

), but if I'm only alive in a couple or so games, that's a quite-realistic PM load for me to receive, and I can get up to 5. (Weekends are especially bad that way.) My inbox is almost full again, so I need to create more folders.

This is one reason why I made a modding account a couple years ago. (I haven't used it yet, and I'm not sure the account survived The Rollback, but if so, I'm probably using it next game I mod.) Because I anticipated back then me getting a LOT of modding PMs and eventually running out of room to stock them in.

**Actually, it makes sense given site rules forbid outside contact with a player when a game's ongoing. So there's a good explanation, just not one immediately apparent.

So because I'm not going to likely finish releasing the flavor (god, I wish I could muster the willpower to do so, but you have no clue just how much I'm struggling to do anything mafia-related right now--not because I'm overwhelmed; I

The modding QT is here. You can see a lot of the remainder in there, though the actual PMs sent might be different by a word or two and it's not the same as viewing it in the forum.

With luck. (And yes, it will be luck.) I'll quote out here the flavor for the remaining nights and days for you to read. I'll also go into extensive detail about each player, and my overall thoughts. But I offer absolutely no guarantees. Those are things I want to do. Not necessarily things I can promise will be done. Buuuuuuuut, I'll give you the quick rundown. The inspiration for the game was mainly iamausername's Emerald City Mafia game. Switch Blue with Vermilion and Red with Cerulean, and you've got the same basic layout. Not a carbon copy, but similar enough that you could see the homage. (Ironically enough, the same faction ended up winning.

The Blue this game is equivalent to iamausername's Vermilion red.)

The game took influence from other multiscum games, like chkflip's and Trumpet of Doom's, but that was the main one. The neighborhoods were randomly generated, and I hated the cliched distribution, but had to run with the hand I was dealt. The game was swingy, but ultimately, balanced against Blue ever so slightly. Red was fine, the town was fine (though the town losing basically the entirety of their power within the first few nights basically dampened that significantly

), but Blue was underpowered. Them winning is more a testament to luck and skill than it is to the setup, since the setup worked against them and they have every right to complain. They were at the disadvantage, and still pulled it off; I was quite impressed by that.

The game was plagued by other problems, though, most of them my own creation. I made dozens of moderating errors throughout the game, some small and some not-so-small. My enforcement of the rules also varied, from super-strict to super-lax with no consistency. My methods of encouraging players often backfired. The result was a sloppily-modded game that ultimately couldn't even have its one remaining draw (flavor) be finished. All-in-all, I'd give myself no more than a 6/10 overall rating this game as a mod.

Still, though. It was an absolute blast for me to mod, despite my shortcomings. I loved watching things unfold, and I'm ecstatic that things ended up getting as close as they did; each faction had a chance of winning right up to the second-to-last lynch (where Bulbazak got lynched), with the remaining two duking it out after that. (And, honestly, all three sides played so well that I was perfectly okay with literally any of them winning. Red played solidly, Blue played solidly, and while the town was occasionally rocky, played solidly and almost made a complete comeback.)

I've mostly heard that people enjoyed the game, so I hope those comments are sincere and the game was fun. Its ending might be depressingly anticlimatic, saddening with how pathetic it is, but aside from that, I hope that if nothing else, it's not a game anyone participating in is going to forget for a long while.

As I said, if I can muster the will, I'll go into more depth about any and all of this, but for the time being, that's it. Sorry for failing so miserably.
