Welcome to ACME Industries, where 26 work at creating inventions for the world. (While your company in known for the zany stuff sent to Wile E. The Rules:
(Stolen from MeMe, then modified)

• Votes must be in bold. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted.
• Please be attentive and unvote, if necessary, before casting a new vote. I am going to require this, as it makes vote counting much easier.
• Lynches will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded. You may vote: no lynch – majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.
• The game is not to be discussed outside of the thread.
• Once you have been killed, stop typing.
• Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts.
• Don’t use smaller-than-normal text, invisible text, or any other board tag-related way of encoding extra information in your posts.
• Don’t bet on the game.
• If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will mod-prod if necessary 12 hours prior to a night deadline, but I will not wait for you – if you do not submit a choice to me, tough! No choice will be made.
• If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread and/or PM me. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.
• Remember, it’s a game. It’s supposed to played. It’s supposed to be fun. Do your part.

New Rules:

• Names, alignments, and roles are all assigned randomly and independently.
• Players win with the town unless otherwise stated.
• Only alignment will be revealed upon death.

Roles are going out now. Please
confirm by PM
. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about your role.

We will be
starting with day
when all confirms are in. This means
no night choices
, and
no night talking
.

Still waiting on confirms from armlx and viper0933. Feel free to poke them if you see them. Replacement will happen tomorrow (Monday) evening if confirmation hasn't happened by then.

Morning breaks and 25 Jacks converge in the staff dining room to start their day. It's a shame, as there are normally 26 of you. A quick look around reveals that Jack Smith's office is wide open. ZONEACE is inside smiling. He is, in fact, wearing two smiles -- one somewhat lower and bloodier than the other.

Killers have come to ACME. It's time to track them down.

It is now Day 1. With 25 alive, it will take 13 to lynch.

A few notes:

1 -- With MeMeMeet coming up over the next few days, players should be aware that some may not be posting for this reason. It's better if players going post in thread (as Mastermind of Sin did), but I won't be replacing for lurking until the event ends.

2 -- I have received two requests for replacement that I will be dealing with later today. Players should be reminded that this is a game, and they should be contributing to a fun environment. Derogatory comments directed at players themselves will be met with disciplinary action. (Fritzler's second last post before this one earns him a "yellow card".)

Carry on.

Fritzler wrote:woo hoo, yellow card!

can someone not from the US tell me what that does, exactly?
It meant that's your one warning...but in hindsight, I'll revise that downwards.

Basically, I have no problem with any game-related play. However, I have to recognize that I have a problem when I start losing players because somebody's decided to insult them in thread, which is what Mariyta specified as the reason she asked to be replaced. I would prefer not to be involved in any disciplinary action, but if I start getting a rash of replacement requests because one player has decided to be a dick, I really don't have much choice in order to keep a functioning game.

I realize this is a subjective thing, and I recognize that some players are more abrasive than others and should be allowed to play that way. That said, there is a balance between the free speech of the players and my ability to run a game with a full complement. I am prepared to be very patient, but my patience is not infinite and if the player base indicates that somebody is a serious enough problem to threaten the game's integrity, for non-game related reasons, I'll have to take action.

For now, just note that this is what happened, and that I expect players not to create a mass exodus due to personality conflicts that have nothing to do with gameplay.

I counted TheCesspit's vote this time, but in the future note that you have to actually vote for the players in the game. (Mlaker was replaced.)

Let me know if any players need prodding.

ChannelDelibird has indeed asked to be replaced due to time constraints. He will be replaced by lordy.

Also, Someone hasn't picked up his prod yet, and hasn't posted anything since July 2nd on the board. If anyone has any information about this, please let me know -- I want to give him a fair shake if he's gone on vacation. Thanks.

And with participation still low, enter the retractable deadline. You have until
Wednesday, July 19 at Midnight EDT
to reach a decision. That should be plenty of time for the replacements to catch up as well.

Oh be nice. zu_Faul did fix the tags. :P

Anyway, I'm prodding lordy, since people replacing into games should actually play in them at some point.

Your deadline's not getting lifted at this rate. I just realized I forgot to put it in the rules up front -- I'm going to go with normal deadline lynch rules at deadline, rather than the regular lynch. (That is, at half of the regular majority, first to that point in the event of a tie.)

Naturally, it's better if you can all agree on a lynch normally.

I will prod the two of them right away, and there are enough replacements waiting in the wings in case they don't show up. Since this is my fault for not checking, I'll also
extend the deadline to Saturday the 21st, at midnight EDT
, to give them a chance to show up and contribute, or any replacements to do the same.

Since Shamrock hasn't picked up his prod, and hasn't posted anywhere on Scum for a month, he's being replaced by spectrumvoid.

Also note that BabyJesus has posted in the V/LA thread about some recent limited access.

After a lot of argument, the ACME employees decide that Bogre is the scummiest among them. They drag him over to the ACME Guillotine(TM), and chop off his head. Inspecting the body, they find that he was quite a loyal, non-evil employee.

The office of Jack Gallagher is locked up, and the rest of you retire for the night.

It is now Night 1.
To allow everyone a chance to make choices (I know there's a couple of people on limited access, and you shouldn't have additional information from them not having the opportunity to make a night choice), it's going to be a bit of a long night.
The deadline will be Monday, July 31 at Midnight EDT.

Two notes.

1 -- viper0933 has requested replacement in all his games. He will be replaced by bluemonick.

2 -- I'm an idiot, and I thought I was making the deadline today. Obviously, that's not what I wrote, and I have to go by what was written. So the deadline will remain the 31st. If anyone wants to change choices thanks to the extended deadline, I'm willing to accept that. However, I'm going to start the game as soon as the last choice comes in, so if you have any changes to make you might want to make them soon.

Morning comes, and the employees of ACME gather in the lunch room. Well, most of them...Blackberry is missing. A quick search finds poor Blackberry crumpled on the floor of his office in a bloody pool. There is no evidence to point to his being scum. Sadly, you remove the body and the office of Jack Wilkinson is locked up.

While walking back to the lunch room, you notice that the door of the office once belonging to Jack Gallagher is no longer locked...

Upon returning to the lunch room, you notice the new announcement posted on the bulletin board. There has been an office reassignment. SpamWise will now occupy the office of Jack Quinn, which ibaesha will occupy the office of Jack Johnson.

With all of these curious events, you are thoughtful as you eat your breakfast. Little do you realize that the events have not ended. As you are finishing up, there is a loud explosion. Everyone in the lunch room rushes towards the sound to find out what happened, to find out that the office of Jack Xavier is in flames. You use the firehose to put it out, but the office is rendered completely useless.

Blackberry, Jack Wilkinson (Pro-Town), killed Night 1
ibaesha reassigned to Jack Johnson's office
SpamWise reassigned to Jack Quinn's office
Yosarian2, occupying Jack Xavier's office, loses office
Jack Gallagher's office opened

It is now Day 2. With 23 alive, it will take
12 to lynch
.

MrBuddyLee, Pooky, and bluemonick have been prodded. I'm not sure if that was a prod request on BabyJesus or not. I'll prod him as well if people wish.

Not much point in prodding Harry_Potter right now, but I'm willing to do it when he gets back from his vacation.

spectrumvoid -- This seems to be a common complaint when people change their emails. Send Jeep an email from your new email, and he'll fix it up for you. (Also, there's an "I can't login" sticky thread in the Help forum you might want to post in to give him more notice.)

I'm extending night to

Morning breaks like a pane of glass. The employees of ACME meet in the lunch room to discover that three are missing. A search of the offices turns up the broken bodies of Fritzler, Brian McQueso, and lordy. All three show no evidence of involvement with the infiltrators. All three offices are locked after the bodies are removed to the ACME Morgue.

On the way back to the lunch room, you notice that the office of Jack Campbell is now unlocked...

There is a new announcement on the bulletin board in the lunch room. Another office reassignment has been announced. MrBuddyLee will now occupy the office of Jack Nelson, and the silent speaker will occupy the office of Jack Fox.

After a quiet breakfast, it is time to go on the hunt again...

Fritzler, Jack Vernon (Pro-town), killed Night 2
Brian McQueso, Jack Bennett (Pro-town), killed Night 2
lordy, Jack Olson (Pro-Town), killed Night 2
MrBuddyLee reassigned to Jack Nelson's office
the silent speaker reassigned to Jack Fox's office
Jack Campbell's office opened

I forgot to mention that Pooky was on V/LA until the 25th, but he also posted it in the official V/LA thread, and has been checking in from various airports. Nevertheless, I don't expect him to be back to full access until then.

I'm perfectly willing to prod people without V/LA notices on request, of course.

Prodding those who haven't posted since the 25th (and don't have a V/LA message):

Coron
zu_Faul
Fuldu
Masterchief
Max
mystery meat of doom
PookyTheMagicalBear

Getting on that now.

With everyone paying attention, I'm imposing a
retractable deadline
. You have until
Thursday, September 7 at 11 PM EDT
to either lynch someone or talk enough to make the deadline go away. (That'll give the legitimate V/LA people a chance to get back as well.) I'll adjust if necessary to deal with replacements.

I don't expect this to be relevant, but just to be responsible...

I'm moving tomorrow. I expect to just be able to plug in my computer and have internet access, so I should have no disruption. Having not tried in this place before, of course, I can't guarantee it. At worst, I'll be gone for a few days while technical issues get worked out.

Pie has the most recent version of the game with all night choices, and has been instructed on what's going on with the prods. Even if I'm gone for a few days, you will experience no disruption in the modding of this game.

Well, since Max has posted elsewhere and picked up his prod, he obviously doesn't want to be in this game. Or many others, judging by his message history.

Extending deadline until
Saturday, September 9 at 11PM EDT
.

Three reasons:

I want to give LmL a fair chance to catch up, knowing he's busy in meatworld at the moment.

I want to give the people returning from vacation with reasonable V/LA notices a fair chance to catch up as well.

I just started They-Won't-Let-Us-Call-It-A-Teacher's-College, and the first week is
packed
. So this will take a bit of a load off me by reducing work for this game down to (most likely) vote counts.

Meanwhile, it's still a retractable deadline and participation has been getting better recently. Keep it up.

I'm happy with the participation recently. Deadline off.

With the lurker situation, Max and Colonel Kurtz have already been replaced (by Loudmouth Lee and Uraj45, respectively). I'll check up on them about posting, but please do check the front post before making accusations about lurking.

I find it highly amusing that MrBuddyLee wants me to prod him in his own post.

Sorry, I missed Coron. He did get prodded the last time around, and for some reason I thought he'd posted. I'll either pester him to post, or replace him as soon as I get someone else on the replacement list.

Final Vote Count:

BabyJesus (10): Mastermind of Sin, Harry_Potter, PookyTheMagicalBear, mathcam, Fuldu, zu_Faul, spectrumvoid, TheCesspit, MrBuddyLee, ibaesha
Harry_Potter (3): BabyJesus, armlx, inHimshallibe

TheCesspit (1): Yosarian2

Not Voting: Colonel Kurtz, Coron, Max, mystery meat of doom

BabyJesus is dragged to the ACME Guillotine(TM), and down comes the blade. Lynchings make BabyJesus bleed! Unfortunately, there's no indication of any involvement with infiltrators. His office is locked up as you retire for the night.

BabyJesus, Jack Yates (Pro-town), lynched Day 3.

It is now
Night 3
. I'm going to set a preliminary deadline of
Friday, September 15 at Midnight EDT
, but please bear with me as this might get extended. I'm going to make sure the replacement situation is worked out and all players, including any new replacements if necessary, have a chance to submit night choices.

Everyone's been confirmed, so as of now there's no reason to extend the deadline. (I'll consider tomorrow if the number of choices in is horrible, but I don't expect it will be.)

Too tired to figure out the night choices tonight, so I'll get to it tomorrow. If I receive your choice before I open, I'll count it. So if you're missing your choice it isn't too late yet...but you'd better get it in fast.

It is gloomy outside when you wake and head down to the company lunch room. A quick count of heads reveals that three more employees are missing. Searching the building turns up three disfigured bodies: zu_Faul, the silent speaker, and inHimshallibe. Nothing turns up to indicate disloyalty on two of them...but you find a bloody ACME Hunting Knife(TM) on the silent speaker.

Returning to the lunch room, you notice that the office of Jack Bennett has been opened...

There is a notice posted on the bulletin board in the lunch room. Again offices have been reassigned, this time moving mathcam into Jack Kay's office, and armlx into the office of Jack Quinn.

With nothing else of interest occurring, you settle down for a quick breakfast followed by your job of hunting down the remaining infiltrators.

zu_Faul(replacing Someone, who replaced DrippingGoofball), killed Night 3 (Jack Usher, Pro-town)
inHimshallibe (replacing Masterchief), killed Night 3 (Jack Ryan, Pro-town)
the silent speaker, killed Night 3 (Jack Fox, formerly Jack Nelson, Serial Killer)
armlx reassigned to the office of Jack Quinn
mathcam reassigned to the office of Jack Kay
Office of Jack Bennett opened

It is now Day 4. With 15 alive, it will take
8 to lynch
.

Oops. I was wondering why on earth people were still accusing Max of lurking, only to find out I forgot to change the front post. Fixed now. Max was replaced by LoudmouthLee towards the end of yesterday. I'm pestering him and Pooky by AIM to get them to the thread. I'll prod Harry_Potter and mystery meat of doom by PM.

Prodding mystery meat of doom. I'll replace him if he fails to respond. (I'm not going to replace players who do respond and simply choose not to contribute enough for other players. If you want to hang yourself, that's your business.)

Of course Thanksgiving is this weekend. Why would anyone think otherwise? :P

(Don't mind me. I have an irrational desire to aikido American exceptionalism sometimes.)

More relevantly, I'll be happy to fulfill mystery meat of doom's request. We'll see this resolved one way or the other.

Please welcome Oberon, who replaces TheCesspit.

To vent briefly, we have a V/LA thread. I read it. Please use it. The only good excuse for disappearing for a few weeks without telling anyone is if your computer burst into flames. Vacations don't come up last minute. Even if things get really busy, try to take a few minutes to say so. Don't make me hunt you down.

Unfortunately, from what's been stated elsewhere there's no indication we're getting those posts back. We'll just have to continue from what we have. So the last vote count is on this page. I will prod anyone who hasn't posted post-crash in two days.

Many apologies -- I got a kidney stone early Wednesday morning, and have been out of commission since. Starting to get used to the painkillers (damn thing hasn't passed yet), so I should be around more. At any rate, that has meant leaving the absent player issue longer than I wanted to. I'll get more active on that this afternoon/evening.

Please note that spectrumvoid is reporting some problems with posting on scum at the moment. Apparently, not only has she been experiencing the time stamp problem, but has been unable to post in certain threads as well. This will hopefully be cleared up fairly quickly.

Good to see we're back. It looks like things are mostly fixed now, so hopefully there won't be any further board issues.

I'll give everyone a few days to check in before prodding and replacing people. I hope to have a full complement of players again fairly shortly.

I'll be replacing those that don't respond. I will likely be imposing a deadline once we're up to capacity.

Quagmire replaces Harry_Potter.
Thok replaces ibaesha.

Still looking for armlx and Oberon. Illumina's on my list from pre-crash, so looking for confirmation about that replacement.

After much arguing and a few breaks to repair system malfunctions in the company, it is decided that mathcam is the most suspicious among you. The ACME(TM) Guillotine takes care of him, but his body shows no signs he was helping the infiltrators.

The office of Jack Kay is locked up and you head off for the night, wondering why the last day seemed to take forever...

mathcam, pro-town, lynched day 4

It is now Night 4. I realize it's around the holidays, and I need to get a replacement in for Oberon before starting the next day. I'll give everyone a week to make family commitments easier, so your deadline for night choices will be
Midnight EST on December 28
. If anyone has any issues with the deadline, please PM me. I'm willing to move it to accomodate people.

KingEnigma replaces Oberon to fill up the game again.

I may be extending night -- I want to give all the new players an opportunity to catch up before night ends in order to have the game run more smoothly. If you need an extension, please let me know.

You wake to the first pale rays of the sun. Breakfast in the cafeteria is a quiet affair, with all 12 of you deep in thought.

...Twelve?

Looking around the building, you find the body of Yosarian2, crumpled in a hallway alcove. MrBuddyLee's body lies strangled in his office. Neither shows any evidence of working for the infiltrators. The office of Jack Nelson is locked up after the body has been carried out.

On the way back to the cafeteria, you see that Jack Kay's office has been reopened...

Fair enough question. For those replacing, deadline lynch rules are:
Yaw wrote:I just realized I forgot to put it in the rules up front -- I'm going to go with normal deadline lynch rules at deadline, rather than the regular lynch. (That is, at half of the regular majority, first to that point in the event of a tie.)

Naturally, it's better if you can all agree on a lynch normally.
I realize a lot of people weren't around when those were posted originally.

"Oh what the hell, let's just lynch Fuldu." With that, you drag Fuldu over to the ACME Guillotine(TM), slide his head into position and release the blade. After he's dead, you find a business card in his pocket identifying him as a member of the Mafia.

The office of Jack Hall is locked up, and you all retire for the night.

Breakfast is served cold, in a room now only half full. There are only 10 of you now, but the deaths have grown normal, so you finish your meal before going off to search for the missing body. It doesn't take long after finishing to find Cogito Ergo Sum facedown in a bloody pool in the doorway of Jack Lincoln's office. There is no indication of involvement with evil parties. Removing the body, you lock up the office.

On the way back to the break room, you find the doorway of Jack Hall's office is open...

The announcement board is littered with paper today. It seems that in this time of crises,
everyone
has been reassigned to a new office! After a quick dash to find out your new assignments, you reconvene to try to find the remaining infiltrators.

Cogito Ergo Sum, Jack Zimmerman (Pro-town), killed Night 5
Jack Hall's office opened
pablito reassigned to Jack Campbell's office
Uraj45 reassigned to Jack MacDonald's office
Coron reassigned to Jack Thomas' office
Quagmire reassigned to Jack Bennett's office
Thok reassigned to Jack Evans' office
Mastermind of Sin reassigned to Jack Gallagher's office
Save The Dragons reassigned to Jack Johnson's office
mystery meat of doom reassigned to Jack Zimmerman's office
PookyTheMagicalBear reassigned to Jack Adams' office
spectrumvoid reassigned to Jack Kay's office

The front post is correct. Or rather, it's more correct to say it's
effectively
correct -- some odd things may have appeared to happen so that all night choices were actually processed. I always resolve night actions from a mechanical standpoint, not a story standpoint, if that helps any.

After much argument over Uraj's guilt, he finally had enough. Quite obligingly, you think, he runs over to the ACME Guillotine(TM), sticks his own head in, and drops the blade.

Sadly, as you find from examining the body, this was a suicide born of frustration rather than guilt. Another office locked up, you head off to sleep.

The morning is grey and rainy as you wander down to have breakfast. As you are eating, you notice that only 8 are here. Sighing, you go off to search for the missing person after dropping off your dishes.

Lying in a pool of blood by his office is pablito. His clothing reveals nothing connecting him to the evils that have plagued your company. His room is locked up, and the body disposed of.

The bulletin board downstairs lists the latest results of the ongoing reorganization. Quagmire has been assigned to the office of Jack Johnson, and Save The Dragons has been assigned to the office of Jack Bennett.

Weary from the toll of the past week, you sit down for another attempt at ridding the evil in your midst.

This is going a bit on the slow side. Pick it up a bit. If anyone needs prodding, let me know and I'll get on that tomorrow.

It also appears I'm going to need a minion to make me a wiki page... 8)

Replacing mystery meat of doom, who hasn't been seen on the site since February 24.

Pooky's around, so he's not getting replaced.

Announcement: On Saturday, I'm heading off to Mexico for three weeks of practice teaching, followed by a week of vacation. I don't expect I'll be accessing Scum during this time, so Pie will be modding this game while I'm gone. He has all my notes, so any necessary replacing can take place, and lynches and nights will proceed as normal. I will be back April 5.

Well, only two people have yet to pick up their prods, and those two are fairly reliable overall. So it isn't a matter of people needing replacement. It's a matter of people needing to get off their asses, which there's only so much I can help with.

Since it is the Easter weekend, and I expect that has a bit to do with this, I'm going to extend the deadline to
Friday, April 13
. Don't expect it to get moved or repealed again unless people start posting.

Because of the downtime and backup errors, I have no night choices in my PM box. To those with choices, please resend. I'm going to set up a new night deadline so everyone has a chance to do this -- let's make it
Tuesday, April 24 at Midnight EDT
. I'll also prod people with choices as we get closer to the date.

I hope this is not too much of an inconvenience.

Another grey morning dawns. Perhaps this morning will be better. Perhaps your lack of action yesterday has convinced the scum to stop killing your colleagues through its peacefulness.

Alas, it is not to be, for there is someone missing at breakfast. A search of the building reveals a beautiful new bear-skin rug adorning the floor of an office...and behind it the rest of PookyTheMagicalBear's corpse. If anything, the situation is growing worse. With liberal use of ACME(TM) Disenfectant, you clean and lock up the office, noting no indications that Pooky was involved with evil forces.

On your return to the cafeteria, you find a notice on the board. Thok has been reassigned to Jack Irving's office.

Both players have picked up their prods, and so are technically here.

Everyone should start posting if they want to avoid a deadline. (Or propose some sort of alternative if you don't want to see the scum just pick you all off at night without resistance.)

Well, mystery meat of doom didn't pick up the last prod, so he is now being replaced my ThAdmiral.

To give ThAdmiral a chance to catch up, I'm revoking the deadline. However, without some pick-up in participation you can expect it back.

The morning is dull as you gather in the cafeteria for breakfast. Sadly, there is another missing employee. Searching the building, you find Thok, facedown in a pool of blood. There is no evidence that he was a member of the infiltrators. Saddened, you dispose of the body, and lock up his office.

No messages appear on the announcement board today.

Since I first mentioned it, I may as well answer that one (particularly since it affects V/LAs, which is part of my modly responsibility).

MoS-Faire is a MafiaScum meetup being hosted by Mastermind of Sin this very weekend (June 22-25). There is a sizable thread in General Discussion detailing the event, and a page on the Wiki where things should be posted as they happen. Both Mastermind of Sin and Coron are attending, so I'd tend to expect less posting out of them during the event. (Also, as previously mentioned, since this is a MafiaScum event planned well in advance, I'm being lenient with respect to posts during this time. That said, conversation can still continue between those that are here, and I expect things to pick up on the 26th. With a modly
or else
...)

Sigh...

STD hasn't picked up his prod yet, but on looking at his posting history he's been fairly consistent in having 3-4 day gaps between posts on Scum at large. So I'm not overly concerned as long as it doesn't stretch out too much longer. I would very much prefer if he could let us know about his schedule when he checks in, just so everyone has a good impression of how well he can keep up with and contribute to this game.

That said, I
really
don't want to have to look for another replacement if he's in any way around.

So here's the story.

I'm moving around August 20, and am unsure of how quickly I'll have regular access upon arrival. That means I want this game finished by then. Given that there are only 5 people left alive, that's a perfectly reasonable amount of time.

I'm willing to deadline in order to enforce this goal, but I don't think anyone really benefits from the mod deadlining a game right to the end. That means you have got to pick things up. There's no way there should be this few posts this close to the end of a game.

Welcome back!

Let's get this moving. Retractable
Deadline will be next Friday, July 27 at Midnight EDT
.

I would prefer not to replace STD -- this game has seen quite enough replacements, and having people catch up on 83 pages is kind of nasty -- but if it becomes necessary I'll do it. (And if it's necessary, deadlines will be altered to allow replacements to catch up.)

Final Vote Count:

spectrumvoid (3): Mastermind of Sin, Save The Dragons, spectrumvoid
Coron (1): ThAdmiral

Not Voting: Coron

After a silent day, suspicion turns to spectrumvoid. She obligingly walks over to the ACME(TM) Guillotine and does the deed herself. Upon investigation, you find no evidence she was working with the infiltrators.

spectrumvoid, Pro-Town, lynched day 9

It is now Night 9. Night will end on
Friday, July 27 at Midnight EDT
. Please get choices in by then.

Another grey morning finds the three remaining employees of ACME congregating in the cafeteria. As per usual during this troubled time, one of your number has not shown up. A quick search of the building finds a dead and bloody Save The Dragons, and a quick search of him finds no evidence he was not a loyal employee. With the body disposed of, you get down to the job of finding killers again.

Save The Dragons, Pro-Town, killed Night 9

It is now
Day 10
. With 3 alive, it will take 2 to lynch.

My plane is now officially booked, for Friday August 17 in the evening. That means that this game has to be finished by then.

It would be preferable if it were finished a couple days before so I could contribute to some post-game discussion.

In other words, get off your asses.

That's a lynch. No time to get up the scene and all the ending stuff right now. It'll be up later tonight.

Thanks to all for playing. Final post, game setup, and my comments will be up soon.

And with that, ThAdmiral is dragged to the ACME Guillotine and relieved of his head. Coron's search of the body reveals nothing to indicate he was working with the infiltrators. Coron gets to his feet and turns around to find Mastermind of Sin's knife coming at his throat.

ThAdmiral, Pro-town, lynched Day 10

Setup

This is going to look a little odd, because of the way in which it was created. The original game setup consists of three "stubs" -- one containing 26 names, a second containing 25 alignments, and a third containing 25 roles. All three were randomized independently by Excel to create the initial setup. (The odd name out became the night 1 flavour kill.)

Names:

Jack Adams
Jack Bennett
Jack Campbell
Jack Davis
Jack Evans
Jack Fox
Jack Gallagher
Jack Hall
Jack Irving
Jack Johnson
Jack Kay
Jack Lincoln
Jack Macdonald
Jack Nelson
Jack Olson
Jack Phillips
Jack Quinn
Jack Ryan
Jack Smith
Jack Thomas
Jack Usher
Jack Vernon
Jack Wilkinson
Jack Xavier
Jack Yates
Jack Zimmerman

Alignments:

2 Mafia Group 1
2 Mafia Group 2
1 Serial Killer
20 Town

Roles:

13 Unpowered
1 Doc
1 Cop (Sane)
1 Cop (Insane)
2 Managers (can switch the roles of two players each night)
1 CEO (one shot – can reassign the roles of all players)
1 Superintendent (can reopen an office each night, but does not move a player into it)
1 Bomber (can destroy an office each night – this removes a player’s role, but doesn’t kill the player)
3 Masons (night communicators – setup naturally guarantees no knowledge of a player’s alignment in this group)
1 Roleblocker

Notes:

New players occupying the cop roles do not receive previous night results.
The bomber only removes office-related roles. It cannot remove scum’s inherent ability to night kill. It can be used as a roleblock against any office-related ability.
The CEO role has only one shot the entire game. This means players assigned to the CEO role after the ability has been used effectively get an unpowered role with additional flavour.
The doctor can only save a player from one kill attempt per night.
Manager switches get assigned before a CEO mass switch if both happen the same night.
Role switchers can target themselves as part of a switch.

I had role PMs made up for each role and the scum alignments, and just mixed and matched once Excel was done its work to create the final role PMs. Excel came up with the following initial setup:

Randomized Roles (Initial Setup):

Harry_Potter/Quagmire (Jack Adams, Mafia Group 2 with Mastermind of Sin, Insane Cop)
Brian McQueso (Jack Bennett, Town, Unpowered)
viper0933/bluemonick (Jack Campbell, Mafia Group 1 with Fuldu, Sane Cop)
mystery meat of doom/ThAdmiral (Jack Davis, Town, Manager)
Coron (Jack Evans, Town, Unpowered)
MrBuddyLee (Jack Fox, Town, Unpowered)
Mlaker/Bogre (Jack Gallagher, Town, Unpowered)
Fuldu (Jack Hall, Mafia Group 1 with viper0933, Bomber)
Shamrock/spectrumvoid (Jack Irving, Town, Roleblocker)
SpamWise/mathcam (Jack Johnson, Town, Mason with BabyJesus and Masterchief)
armlx/pablito (Jack Kay, Town, Manager)
Mastermind of Sin (Jack Lincoln, Mafia Group 2 with Harry_Potter, Unpowered)

The initial role PMs were as follows:

Harry_Potter/Quagmire (Jack Adams, Mafia Group 2 with Mastermind of Sin, Insane Cop):

You are Jack Adams. Your office contains a desk and chair, and an ACME Investigation KitTM. This will allow you to investigate a player of your choice each night, and the kit will give you a guilty or innocent result.

You are also part of a mafia group, along with Mastermind of Sin. This gives you the additional ability, as a group, to kill one player per night. You will have to PM me with the name of the player you wish to kill, as well as which of you will carry out the kill, to do so. Be aware that each of you may only perform one action per night. You win when no player outside your group is left alive.

Brian McQueso (Jack Bennett, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Bennett. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

viper0933/bluemonick (Jack Campbell, Mafia Group 1 with Fuldu, Sane Cop):

You are Jack Campbell. Your office contains a desk and chair, and an ACME Investigation KitTM. This will allow you to investigate a player of your choice each night, and the kit will give you a guilty or innocent result.

You are also part of a mafia group, along with Fuldu. This gives you the additional ability, as a group, to kill one player per night. You will have to PM me with the name of the player you wish to kill, as well as which of you will carry out the kill, to do so. Be aware that each of you may only perform one action per night. You win when no player outside your group is left alive.

mystery meat of doom/ThAdmiral (Jack Davis, Town, Manager):

You are Jack Davis. Your office contains a desk and chair, as well as an ACME Guide to Managing People for DummiesTM. Armed with this knowledge, you will be able to switch two players’ roles each night. To do this, PM me with the players to be switched and the role names to reassign them to.

Coron (Jack Evans, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Evans. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

MrBuddyLee (Jack Fox, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Fox. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

Mlaker/Bogre (Jack Gallagher, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Gallagher. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

Fuldu (Jack Hall, Mafia Group 1 with viper0933, Bomber):

You are Jack Hall. Your office contains a desk and chair, as well as an ACME Bombing KitTM. Using this kit, you will be able to bomb one office each night, destroying it. This will not kill players, but it will destroy their ability to use their role. Permanently.

You are also part of a mafia group, along with viper0933. This gives you the additional ability, as a group, to kill one player per night. You will have to PM me with the name of the player you wish to kill, as well as which of you will carry out the kill, to do so. Be aware that each of you may only perform one action per night. You win when no player outside your group is left alive.

Shamrock/spectrumvoid (Jack Irving, Town, Roleblocker):

You are Jack Irving. Your office contains a desk and chair, as well as an ACME Disruptor RayTM. Using the disruptor, you will be able to prevent one player from performing any action each night.

SpamWise/mathcam (Jack Johnson, Town, Mason with BabyJesus and Masterchief):

You are Jack Johnson. Your office contains a desk and chair, as well as an ACME Telephone with Speed DialTM. On the speed dial are the numbers of Jack Ryan (Masterchief) and Jack Yates (BabyJesus). Using the phone, you will be able to communicate with them at night.

armlx/pablito (Jack Kay, Town, Manager):

You are Jack Kay. Your office contains a desk and chair, as well as an ACME Guide to Managing People for DummiesTM. Armed with this knowledge, you will be able to switch two players’ roles each night. To do this, PM me with the players to be switched and the role names to reassign them to.

Mastermind of Sin (Jack Lincoln, Mafia Group 2 with Harry_Potter, Unpowered):

You are Jack Lincoln. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

You are also part of a mafia group, along with Harry_Potter. This gives you the additional ability, as a group, to kill one player per night. You will have to PM me with the name of the player you wish to kill, as well as which of you will carry out the kill, to do so. Be aware that each of you may only perform one action per night. You win when no player outside your group is left alive.

PookyTheMagicalBear (Jack Macdonald, Town, Superintendent):

You are Jack Macdonald. Your office contains a desk and chair, as well as an ACME Skeleton KeyTM. Using this key, you will be able to reopen one empty office each night. (Offices become empty when players die.) You cannot assign players to newly opened offices (but someone else might be able to do so…)

the silent speaker (Jack Nelson, Serial Killer, Unpowered):

You are Jack Nelson. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

You are also a Serial Killer. This gives you the additional ability to kill one player per night. Be aware that you may only perform one action per night. You win when no other player is left alive.

ChannelDelibird/lordy (Jack Olson, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Olson. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

Max/LoudmouthLee/Save The Dragons (Jack Phillips, Town, Doctor):

You are Jack Phillips. Your office contains a desk and chair, and an ACME Medical KitTM. This will allow you to save a player of your choice from being killed each night.

Ibaesha/Thok (Jack Quinn, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Quinn. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

Masterchief/inHimshallibe (Jack Ryan, Town, Mason with BabyJesus and SpamWise):

You are Jack Ryan. Your office contains a desk and chair, as well as an ACME Telephone with Speed DialTM. On the speed dial are the numbers of Jack Johnson (SpamWise) and Jack Yates (BabyJesus). Using the phone, you will be able to communicate with them at night.

Colonel Kurtz/Uraj45 (Jack Thomas, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Thomas. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

DrippingGoofball/Someone/zu_Faul (Jack Usher, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Usher. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

Fritzler (Jack Vernon, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Vernon. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

Mariyta/Blackberry (Jack Wilkinson, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Wilkinson. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

Yosarian2 (Jack Xavier, Town, Unpowered):

You are Jack Xavier. Your office contains a desk and chair, but is otherwise empty. This means you have no powers in this game.

BabyJesus (Jack Yates, Town, Mason with Masterchief and SpamWise):

You are Jack Yates. Your office contains a desk and chair, as well as an ACME Telephone with Speed DialTM. On the speed dial are the numbers of Jack Johnson (SpamWise) and Jack Ryan (Masterchief). Using the phone, you will be able to communicate with them at night.

TheCesspit/Oberon/KingEnigma/Cogito Ergo Sum (Jack Zimmerman, Town, CEO):

You are Jack Zimmerman. Your office contains a desk and chair, as well as an ACME Organizational Management ChartTM. Using this chart, you will be able to reassign all players in the game (including yourself if you wish) to other roles. Unfortunately, the chart contains only enough room to do this once. To use this ability, PM me with a new list of players assigned to their new role names. If I do not receive a PM from you by the deadline, I will assume you are not using this role that night.

Notes:

Modding Notes

This might just be the most mod-intensive game ever. Thanks for everyone for bearing with me -- I had no idea how confusing the role-switches would be to keep track of on my end. Every role switch required PMing a lot of people (particularly if it was a communication role, as everyone in that group had to know about the change), and resulted in a lot of appends in my Word file. I eventually had to start colour-coding to keep which offices were still in play straight. I still think it's an incredibly interesting mechanic that deserves to be explored more, but anyone who tries should consider this piece of advice:
Plan out how to record the changes first!

For a variety of reasons, this was the second-longest game ever played on Scum (behind only Intrigue Mafia). Part of this was poor luck with the crashes and with players needing replacement. The rest has to do with games taking longer in general across the site (although I think as time went on this game suffered more from inactivity than others). As complex as this game was, I still think a 25-player game should not take 14 months to complete. I think it's worth using this as a stepping-off point to try to figure out ways to address this issue.

Gameplay Notes

Now it can be told -- yes, bluemonick blew Fuldu's cover at the end of day 2. Unfortunately, I only saw it after people had commented on the post, so was forced to leave it up in the hopes Fuldu would be able to explain it away by WIFOM. I did try to contact bluemonick to engage him in dialogue about why what he did was wrong, but got no response. Because of this, I intend not to let him into any more games I run until this is addressed. I have no interest in revenge, but I insist on accountability, and no scum should have to put up with a partner that believes it's ok to sell out the entire group due to frustration. To Fuldu's credit, he managed to survive two more days without being lynched, despite bluemonick's mistake being brought up both days.

I find this to be a funny little game, in that despite the existence of power roles, it has a very Mountainous feel to it when it comes to trying to find scum because none of the roles are inherently trustworthy. I'm not sure if other people found the same thing, but from watching it occurred to me that the most productive way to play as town here (even in a power role) would be to ignore that power roles existed at all. There were a lot of interesting interactions between roles waiting to be exploited, but only one person came close to pulling it off.

That person was Cogito Ergo Sum. Follow the game log through and look at what havoc that mass-switch did on Night 5. The remaining scum group suddenly went from a position of strength to two straight nights in which the wrong kill would have lost them the game. Mastermind of Sin and Quagmire needed some very tight play to pull out the win based on CES's one-shot action alone.

Setup Notes

Overall, I liked this experiment. All the roles fit and made sense in context, and I think they only started to tap into some of what's possible from this sort of game. I'm not sure if I'd run it myself, but I'd be interested in seeing a game like this run in the future (with some changes, of course). It could also form the basis for an open setup (sort of) if someone wanted to put that together.

Some details on a few choices:

Why only groups of 2 scum? Probability has a tendency to do weird things when I'm around (look at the Hobbit Mafia 1% chance of survival for an example). Most importantly, I wanted to guarantee that the scum couldn't monopolize the role-switching roles. Groups of 2 meant it would be impossible for Excel to stick all three of these roles in one scum group. Groups of 3 meant there was a chance of it happening. (And having stated this would be random, I felt like I shouldn't mess with whatever Excel decided to do.) That said, upon running this I'm convinced that going up to regular-sized groups could be done without problem.

Why no vigilante? I considered it, but was stuck with a problem -- what if a scum group got the vig role? Either they'd get a second kill (which seemed like it could be unbalancing), or the vig role would be negated (which didn't seem fair either -- why have a role that can't be used?) The best choice was therefore to leave it out entirely. I'm not sure there's a satisfying solution other than not to have a vig in a role-motive split game, but people are welcome to try to figure one out.

For all the thinking about brokenness and how to avoid it, it turns out I invented a broken role: the CEO. Nothing should
ever
be that swingy. I liked the idea of having an extra check on the regular role-switchers, but this was far too powerful, and gave me ridiculous headaches trying to resolve what went on Night 5 when it was used. For all my railing against how broken bulletproof vest roles are, this was far, far worse. (Incidentally, this is the only game I'd seriously consider a bulletproof vest role for, because it's exactly as unreliable as every other role. Besides, scum suddenly get night choices that can get rid of it in the role-switchers and the bomber. In this context, the bulletproof vest is potentially balanced.)

Again, thanks to all who participated, and a particular thanks to those who followed this through to the end.

Correct. Although you could think of roles that follow the office as "items" if you want -- they did have the power to give you things like investigations and doc protections.

I see your thinking now, though I was wondering why you wouldn't kill at the time. It's true that the SK is in an odd position with this, as he can't pass off a kill to a buddy in order to make use of an office role. I like having it be either/or in terms of night choices for the mafia, but in the SK's position it might be worth making an exception to allow for both a kill and an office choice each night to balance this out a bit better.

Flay -- Well, it wasn't an open setup either. If the scum had a switching role and just refused to use it, it's unlikely anyone would know any better. People would in the future, though, since the secret's out. (As a sidenote, I think something like this might work as an open mini. I'll post a bit later in the MD thread to see what the reaction would be.)

One thing I forgot in the comments was to explain the day start. I much prefer night starts, but it didn't make sense in this game because of the role-switching mechanic. (Why give someone a role if I'm just going to have to give them a new one before day 1 even starts?)
