what of his post made it seem to you like it could be not "random." I can pick out at least two votes so far that seem like more thought went into them than his.

One could say voting based on people's posting/sleeping patterns could be considered a strategy. Not a good strategy, but still a strategy.

Katie seems to be very defensive and emotional regarding this wagon. This is indicative of scum.

Unvote:

Vote: Katie

I agree Luca's vote was not OMGUS. He clearly pointed out his reasoning. OMGUS is a defensive responce vote without any clear reasoning other than wanting to divert your own wagon.

Being defensive and emotional is indicative of scum, because scum are more worried about their own survival because there are fewer of them than town. Town worry about scum hunting over survival.

Also, saying someone is probtown this early in the game sounds like someone trying to whiteknight their scum partner.

I said it is indicative, I didn't say it is a 100% indicator. More often than not, scum get emotional and defensive when wagoned more than town do.

have you ever seen scum support a vote based on "X is emotional and defensive"...(for your reference, I love to meta).

Yes, I've seen both, but that doesn't disprove my statement. Katie's wagon has brought about a lot of information in a short period of time, and that alone makes it worthwhile.

In post 110, KatieB wrote:I mean, he voted Lapsa for 'fluffposting more than Anen' and 'poorly justifying his vote on Anen' which happened before Anen had even posted, and was pretty clearly a RVS vote. Even if Lapsa had done any of the things Luca was talking about, none of them would be alignment indicative.

He's scumreading me for calling Lapsa probtown, but dollars to doughnuts if I hadn't clarified that my feelings are as strong as p5 allows, he'd be scumreading me for having feelings too strong for day 1.

He's scumreading me for not hopping to answer him (which is not indicative of scum), scumreading me for a misunderstanding of my feelings on my suspects (even if his thoughts were accurate, this would not be indicative of scum), for 'not making any sense' (which is not indicative of scum), and for being dismissive of his reasons for scumreading me (which he hasn't yet presented.)

Pretty obviously scum looking for a day1 mislynch that involves a lot of words but not reasons. As soon as everyone has posted, I'd be glad to turbolynch him.

p-edit: but not having any reasons for scumreading me totally doesn't make his vote OMGUS. Totally.

You guys are taking my statement out of context. But I acknowledge some players play emotional and defensive as town. Katie's wagon has still brought a lot more day 1 information than is typical so I like my vote where it is for now.

Your entire case on Katie is that she's being overly emotional and defensive. So, if that isn't indicative alignment, why are you still voting her?
That's not my entire case at all. There's also the fact that Katie's wagon has generated discussion and brought about useful information the town can use later in the game.

I'm not convinced Katie is scum at this point, but the wagon is pro-town to me. Therefore my vote stays at this point.

how exactly is that a part of your case on Katie?

Not so much part of the case so much as why my vote is there I suppose. You want to know what has produced the most pro-town discussion at this point and you can look at Luca and my vote.

I didn't like this. Calling players pro-town on Page8? I know that I'm a slow starter but having pro-town reads that early is pigeon poop.

I didn't say the players were pro town, I said the wagon brought pro-town information because the discussion was good. Day 1 discussion is always good over a slow game where people don't post.

The Wagon is only you and Luca.
Why are you saying the wagon is pro-town instead of saying "I like Luca's reasoning"? Are you trying not to take hard stances?
It's not that I'm avoiding taking hard stances, it's that I don't like my words being taken out of context.

However, I do think people tend to over generalize and jump to conclusions to quickly in day 1 in a rush to lynch, which leads to many day 1 mislynches.

Yeah because his argument was really really bad. I don't care if every single player said I wasn't being clear. I was perfecly clear. I said "being defensive and emotional is indicative of scum." I don't know how to get any more clear than that. It's like if I said your pacman avatar is blue, and you say, "no it's not it's yellow.", and then I say, "but everyone else says it's blue." That doesn't make the avatar any less yellow.

It's very simple. Scum are more self aware in general than town.
Town, as you say, try to collaborate and collectively find scum.
Scum get defensive easily, use poor arguments, and get upset over little things(emotional).
So I don't see how I wasn't clear.

Changing your mind as the game progresses shows fluency of thought and is protown, as opposed to just lurking or posting bad arguments.

I'm not willing to lynch anybody. I townread clown at this point. I scumread him at first because of his initial bad argument, but his play has improved quickly. Being stubborn and scumreading someone that is acting town would not benefit the town.

Wow that is impressive.

Impressively scummy, imo.
Vote: monkeyman

Why is that scummy?

He's looking for a reason, no matter how see-through to vote for the competing wagon. Obviously trying to distract people from himself.
.

That's ridiculous. My reasoning for voting katie is much less "see through" than my own wagon.

Those two statements are both assumptive and incorrect. It would be scummy of me to start a new wagon if there is a better wagon to be on, which there is. I have repeatedly stated my reasoning, which is sound.

RE: Lapsa/Katie, if two people are equally scummy, it makes more sense to wait than to vote right away and have to change your vote later.

RE: Katie being defensive and emotional, pretty much every post she has made. She is far too self aware to be town, in my opinion.

RE Scumhunting, I think I've pretty much nailed down Lapsa and Katie as scum, I'm not sure what more scumhunting I need to do in day 1.

(1) If you don't wait, then you just get accused of vote hopping. Voting isn't the only way to apply pressue, after all.
(2) Why do you say that regarding scum-Sthar/Kate?

I wouldn't be that sure about that. They might not care if none of them are wagoned, for example.
It seems that you're back to producing theoretical posts... why ?

What's wrong with theoretical posts? It gives you insight into players thought processes.

curiouskarma wrote:give me an example post (dont say every post) where you think Katie is being defensive (and clearly scummy).

Katie wrote:
I mean, he voted Lapsa for 'fluffposting more than Anen' and 'poorly justifying his vote on Anen' which happened before Anen had even posted, and was pretty clearly a RVS vote.

Totally.

Katie wrote:So let's see. Katie's scum for:
1. having opinions inside the first 100 posts.
2. not jumping when Mr. Anime whistles
3. OMGUS
4. not making sense (to mr. anime)

I know where my vote's going! This is so exciting!

p-edit clearly

For clarity, I'm scumreading Luca first because of his terrible vote on Lapsa, then his terrible OMGUS on me. I'm scumreading Wake for focusing on silly stuff like how much fluff should be allowed in a game, and Anen because he wasn't just posting fluff, he was looking for things to talk about that were irrelevant to the game. Like, instead of discussing the game.

I mean, he voted Lapsa for 'fluffposting more than Anen' and 'poorly justifying his vote on Anen' which happened before Anen had even posted, and was pretty clearly a RVS vote.

Totally.

Any time she posts anything with content it is about how terrible everyone's reads on her are. She hardly ever posts anything about anyone else.

@Curious, if you change your vote to Lapsa, that will make the two wagons equal in size, and maybe we can pick up a few more votes to get the lynch. Especially if Pac and Wake decide to go with us(which they should).

I want to know what your problem is with asking questions to get caught up to speed instead of getting bogged down by sloughing through muck. Don't know about you, but time is precious, so whining about me asking if anything important happened yet isn't wrong at all. You know better. If that's what you think passes for an excuse to vote me, you are sorely mistaken, and I will rip you apart over it until you acknowledge your reasoning here is crud.

My problem is that it's lazy and anti-town. What if the people you are asking for help with are scum?

If I had all the time in the world then yes it'd be lazy. I do not, and I don't think it's too much to ask the other twelve players to give a brief summary. If anything's lazy, it's refusing to even provide a sentence or two i response when you have more time than the person asking. BS on it being anti-Town, BS on it being scummy, and BS on it being lazy. I'm not asking everyone to provide walls of text doing my own work. I'm asking the other players (not all, but at least one) to help me catch up with a sentence or two. What's so difficult about it? Are you trying to fabricate reasons to cast suspicion on me? I think the route you're taking is horrible if you're Town, because if you're Town we are a team, and we help each other out if we are able. There's a chance that one of the people providing a response is Scum, but hey, that's the risk you take in a game of Mafia. People don't suddenly stop asking others for reads because, *gasp*, the person being asked could be Scum. I am not liking this new direction from you, and am now more eager than ever to question the motives behind your actions.

Wow, you don't like a direction where you're being scumread, that's a surprise.

Yea, Wake works in a hospital, treating patients, etc. That's a highly unpredictable profession, so it's not unfathomable that he'd have periods of a lot on his plate.

Having said that, Wake, If you could maybe give a reads list or something at SOME point this dayphase, it'd probably help us out some.

But I'm more interested in why Monkeyman is focusing on Wake for this. I posted little to nothing in the last week. I'm studying for finals. You're not targeting me. Why is this?

Yes, I do think that's bad at well, but I saw more content in your posts overall.

I think he is asking you this, scumbag.

why would he be asking you what people in other games say you are scummy?

Calling me scum over and over again doesn't make it more true. He probably is interested in my meta. Maybe *gasp* he has an open mind.

also add lying, where did I say IIII is probably scum? where? I think he is probably town.

also if your next post doesnt answer this question I have not going to remove my vote from you all game.

4.) He said Wake was scum because he left the game (couldn’t handle the pressure?). I asked him (3 times) to provide a game where he developed this theory. He gave a newbie game (that he was in) from 2012. Really? This is the game you have based this bullshit theory? He has been around since 2008. If MM was really trying to find scum, why didn’t he meta Wake to see if this was a common problem with his other current games? (Hint: it is a common problem). No, instead he just throws that crap out there to see if it will get started. MM, why didn’t you see if Wake was having problems in other threads?

Because I tend to focus on current gameplay over meta.

He called me scum specifically in 582 and 586. He didn't use such strong language repeatedly to anyone else, so it's a safe leap. Then he mysteriously switched his vote close to the last minute to a wagon that ended up leaving a town dead. No one else that switched at the last minute scum read me so heavily.
