This hasn't been my experience and I'm in at least 4 running games if not more at any given time. People who think the RVS is useless also think mafia is SUCH SRS BSNS. They're also anti-conformists and the problem with anti-conformists is this: If you consistently move in the opposite direction of the herd, then the herd is still dictating your movements.

Policy-lynch one or two of them fuckers and they'll fall right in line.

Whether or not policy lynches are useful is a matter of debate -- and an endless one at that. Wait until I'm actually targeting someone in specific before jumping down my throat for it.

As for your first comment (the multi-posting comment): People would have to be doing some actual scum hunting in order for me to "appear" active and actually not be contributing. Point in fact, nobody is contributing right now.

Either way I'm glad someone is giving you scum fodder. Someone has to stick their neck out -- might as well be me.

OccamR: AndyTony is just being AndyTony. Everyone scumhunts in their own way. He seems to have the basic principle down though: A) Find sharp stick, B) poke
AndyTony wrote: looking for clever ways to lynch a player by twisting what they say and manufacturing scum out of them
Seems to be what you're doing to me right now. You're making long leaps to "hohum is looking for a policy lynch"

Also,
AndyTony wrote: I'd prefer it if you'd make an effort to lynch scum for us, rather than hunt a lynch
I'd prefer if you'd make an effort to lynch scum for us, instead of sniping at people over game theory.

Why not chill for a minute and give people a chance to show up?

Faulty is subjective. Your assumption that faulty is a scum tell is a faulty argument.

If it were up to you to actually start a conversation in order to extract information from someone, how would you go about it?

A) You're making a big leap from making lists of reasons to lynch people to actually planning their lynch, especially considering I've never actually brought up any negative points on him.

B) You could lump almost anything into theory conversation. You're hunting for reasons to find me scummy because I took some early shots at you.

C) I've never seen anyone post a case and then UNVOTE that person before. That's sort of a strange move. Do you not care who gets lynched and why?

No, I don't have a problem with tossing my vote around. I never do. And yes, I keep running lists of reasons to vote people in EVERY SINGLE GAME I'M IN.

It's called taking notes based on observations.

I'm not judging him based on anything. You seem t have missed this:
hohum wrote: especially considering I've never actually brought up any negative points on him.
I don't see ANYONE advocating lynching him right now. All I see is you defending a lynch which is not actually taking place. Your reactionary stance on a potential Zer0 wagon is very scummy, and REEKS of defending.

If you seriously think anyone is going to get anywhere near lynch because of their meta, then the joke is on you, my friend. That doesn't mean we're not allowed to sit here and talk about him while he sits idle refusing to contribute. You're trying to impede a conversation -- that's about all you're doing.

Cephrir: In due time.

You should realize that adding more pages to a game with no mod and only 5 active participants is bad thing to ask replacements to come in and deal with.

did anyone actually ask you to claim? If nobody asked you to claim what good will it do besides offer a distraction in the form of "let's talk about this claim"

You've made early claims in other games before. Why do you enjoy being the center of attention so much?

I understand that there's an implicit default claim. It's an unspoken claim, and it's unspoken because an ACTUAL claim spurs useless and distracting conversation when done at the wrong time. This notion is clearly evident in his meta.

MS was pretty fail when I was composing that message. It obviously posted every draft I went through.

It started as a harshly worded post, with a vote and then I thought about it some more and tried to back it off a great deal. I eventually came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth a vote.

I know you're asking a question, rude ass.

I'm pointing out to you that you've asked it without forming a complete and coherent thought.

It might not be as obvious to others as it is to me.

I'm also pointing out that you've double posted.

EBWOP I just can't seem to handle the whole tag thing this game (or the preview button for that matter). Fail.

The Wiki Article wrote:It is simply a player suggesting that since the majority believes it, it must be true.
I suggested no such thing. I simply went along with the pack. I don't know if it's true or not but since we're not under deadline and she's in no immediate danger of being lynched right now (the scum would have hammered a long time ago) I figured I would throw my vote around for a little while to provoke reactions out of people.

BTW arguing semantics or resorting to meta (especially the wiki, as some articles are a bit misleading) is in exceedingly poor taste.

Again:

He was in no danger of being lynched. Your reaction is certainly telling, and I've made a note of it accordingly.

The wiki is intended to be a guide for newbies, not Mafia doctrine. The vast majority of the articles on the wiki are user-maintained, some are out dated and some are just plain wrong.

My vote is my only tool. I will use it as I see fit.

You're talking in absolutes again like it's a rule set in stone. It isn't, so stop it.

There was literally 0 activity in the thread when I voted. It would have been fucking stupid and obvious if scum would have suddenly reappeared at that moment to drop the hammer. If that would have been the case then I certainly wouldn't have had a problem losing Cephrir in order to out scum.
Alduskkel wrote:If you're thinking a scum pair between me and Cephrir, let me point out that I unvoted because we didn't (and still don't) have all our replacements here.

In my experience, when someone hammers out of left field, it's scum doing the wielding. There's a well established procedure for bringing a wagon to lynch which the vast majority of players on MS follow to the T. Only newbie scum that make this mistake.
Alduskkel wrote: don't think it would have been as obvious as you think. Scum aren't going to just come in here and say "I agree with the case on Cephrir." and hammer him, they're going to post an elaborate post ending with a hammer so that it doesn't look as bad. And let's not forget the WIFOM they could play. ("Well, if it was so scummy then scum wouldn't do it!")
This defies Occam's Razor (paraphrased): The simplest explanation is usually the most correct. There's a fair bit of WIFOM in your own logic in that you're trying to out-guess the scum team.

Unvote, Vote Alduskkel

I'm just going to park my vote here for a little while until you either decide to /in yourself in the newbie queue or you decide to actually read through the wiki which you so desperately cling to for guidance. Hint: Go read the Game Theory and Theory articles.

I'm talking to both of you, or rather all of you, mostly because I can predict with some certainty what is going to unfold here:

1) Kise is going to come back from V/LA and be a raging homo. I've already had this debate with him once already this week so I'm just going to ignore him and he's going to use that as justification for his vote. I won't ever play with him again.

2) AndyTony is going to come back and tell me how what I'm doing is scummy. When I give him reasons that he's wrong he's going to ignore them and continue saying the same thing over and over again. It's going to degenerate into an argument and then he's going to push for my lynch based on the fact that I'm not answering his questions.

3) Zer0 is going to hop on my bandwagon, because he's an exceedingly poor player. He may also try and hit me over the head with my meta as a retort to this because we were in a game together where I was mislynched as a miller.

Either way this game is made of fail, and we're going to lose to the scum team.

You're just arguing semantics. Whether you had a reason to vote for him or not is pretty irrelevant.

If you snipe at everyone who votes for not having a good reason you're going to hand the win condition to the scum every time. I don't know where the notion that "BANDWAGONS R EVIL ARGGGH!!" came from, but if every bad vote caught scum every time then this would be a very simple and boring game.

Either that, or you just don't give a flying fuck about this game and its outcome, and really couldn't care less if your faction, whatever it is, wins or loses. I'm inclined to believe the second.
Your fear mongering is noted. You need to realize there's more than one strategy for this game. It's theory, not play-it-my-way-or-get-the-fuck-out.

You basically just threatened to lynch me over a theory disagreement.

Having said that: @kise: I think you're in too many games. I'd still prefer if you replaced out of this one.

Longer games favor town, shorter ones favor scum. There's a whole slew of people in the game now that weren't here before. It's going to take longer than a week for any sort of sensible lynch to take place.

@AndyTony: If you're going to be too busy you should ask to be replaced or drop one of your other commitments before they come up.

These games (especially one as large as this one) often go on for months, so what's an extra 14 days in the scheme of things?

You're right, players trailing off is dangerous but now we have a responsible mod so we should be able to get by with the normal prod/replace cycle.

As for your point about manufacturing cases, well that's a scum tell. If we catch anyone doing that, feel free to toss a vote on them and pressure for more info.

Cphrir: why do you seem so certain that one of the two of you will be lynched?

not really. It's no different than playing with someone a lot. It gives him some fresh insight, that's all. If they were actually talking about the game then I'd be concerned.

I'd like to remind you that dejkha is no longer in this game so concentrating on this is useless to progress.

I'm not going to sit here and argue with you. You're an idiot.

I'm going to sit here and wait for an answer from andytony. Take it for what you will, but I'm not going to remove my vote, and I'm not going to indulge your pestilence any longer.

Fair enough. I don't have a problem with what you're doing but your timing is very suspect to me. You've had plenty of opportunities now to bitch about the vote, but you waited until I tried to do some scum hunting.

Painting me in a bad light isn't going to save your scum buddy.

The wiki is meant as a guide for newbies, not Mafia doctrine. Ultimately the wiki pages are maintained by users and some of them are misleading (including that one). Also having to resort to meta to support your own positions is scummy.

I take your refusal to answer my question as positive acknowledgement that you do indeed have a problem with me questioning your motives. +scum points for you too.

I haven't refused to answer a single question. Here's why you're a tool:

You're clearly the one not paying attention. WTF have I been talking about for the last 2 pages now?
  • Your desire to push up the deadline, scummy
  • Your accusations of hypocrisy, and your inability to recognize your own hypocrisy
  • Your refusal to answer simple questions, no matter how stupid they may seem

yeah just keep repeating the same shit over and over again bro. Maybe the more you say it the truer it becomes. Here, let me try that:
hohum wrote:It's raining strippers!
Nothing yet?

Let me try that again
hohum wrote:It's raining strippers!
hohum wrote:It's raining strippers!
hohum wrote:It's raining strippers!
hohum wrote:It's raining strippers!
Still nothing.

Here's the crux of the situation:
hohum wrote:I answered his question, and kept answering his question for half a page. It's right there for everyone to see and judge for themselves.
I can't help it that neither of you like my justification for the vote. I vote the way I vote because I believe it assists me in scum hunting. You believe differently. This boils down to a game theory debate. I'm not going to change my mind and you aren't going to change yours.

Keep after me the way you are though and it looks like you're trying to contrive a case. Bad, scum! Bad! If I had a newspaper I'd swat you on the nose right now.

that's pretty funny.

See? Humor is a much better way to diffuse people than acting like a douchebag (*cough*andytony*cough*)

It helped me because it generated some conversation. Anything which helps me get a better read on you, or anyone else is productive -- even if it isn't readily apparent why I did it.

You defended against what? It was a single vote on you. Given the fact that no real reason was given by hohum, nobody else was likely to even follow, right? Why even worry about it?
I didn't think hohum's vote against me was legitimate, so I said so. I wasn't worried about it, I was just criticizing it. If I don't think a vote is warranted, I'll say so, which is exactly what happened here. Just because the vote happened to be on me doesn't mean that I'm being over defensive.

In conclusion, it's not that I was worried about people agreeing with hohum and lynching me, it was that I didn't agree with the reason for hohum's vote, so I spoke up.
Dude you need to shut the hell up because you had yourself back to null-tell in my notes. Now you're just digging a hole for yourself again.

I don't really care what you're a fan of. I've read some of your other games and you're clearly in way over your head.

Why do you insist on defending him? It's a scum tell.

Why don't you stop trying to moderate the discussion? It's as scum tell.

Pushing for a D1 no-lynch, scumtell.

If cephrir were a little more cooperative I'd vote you based on what you've said the last page alone.
cephrir wrote: I could claim and be lynched, or not claim and still be lynched. Does it really make a difference?

Yeah, I can't really be bothered to try hard in this game because I've known for like twenty something pages that I was going to be the lynch today. It's just a shock that it took you all this long to actually do it. Also, hohum is a douche.
I see you'd rather play games than cooperate. If you don't want to be in this game I'll gladly put you out of your misery. I also asked you a question that I see you refused to answer.

I don't know why you expect someone's read on you to go back to null or pro town just because you think you've answered a question correctly. That's not the way this game works. I also gave you a chance to take me seriously before and you declined. Instead you basically told me to go pound sand.

Khamisa's V/LA issue is only part of the reason people are voting for her.
Remember?
Fine, but lynching someone V/LA is still in extremely poor taste. What's the harm in leaving her alive so she can respond? Lynching someone *KNOWN* not to be at their keyboard so they can't respond is:

A) rushing a lynch
B) very one-sided.

We're not lyching her today. Sorry.

We should be lynching AT instead.

What's two more mislynches in the sands of time? Doesn't matter much to me anymore because it's clear that this town is too dysfunctional to win.

cheerio.

Why not?
Because the lurker wagons are being driven by scum. I'm not going to allow myself to be replaced so that the scum team has another sheep which will happily go along with this nonsense and say nothing.

Vote, Aldul

Kise: I'm not posting because I can't trust my reads on anyone, and I like the direction we're headed. You're electing not to post out of some misguided attempt to teach us a lesson. I'm trying to stay out of the way and you're trying to actively sabotage the game.

That wasn't a rhetorical question BTW. I would really like to know why kise wants me to post information for him to dissect which admittedly leads to WIFOM.

Because that was your whole defense of khamisa. You, apparently, believed someone was voting her only because she was a lurker. Thing is, I'm not seeing where someone did this. In other words, I'm saying you tried to sabotage kham's lynch.
you're not seeing it because it isn't there. Did you miss the part where I said my read on Khas and her entire wagon is riddled with WIFOM?

You're quite visibly attempting to derail a productive conversation.

I'm not going to sit here and trade pot-shots with a troll like kise. I've said my piece already.

DRK's 1499 expresses competing lines of thought. She seems to think everyone is town, whether or not something bad is said about them. That certainly sends up red flags.

Another red flag is this:
DRK wrote:@hohum
What do you think of pablito and d3x?
d3x's vote on me reads like a frustrated townie, pablito is a null read; however, with everything else going on right now I find it odd that DRK is attempting to change the subject of conversation and that she picked those two of all people to ask me about.

Top suspects:

Kise
Aldul

Better articulated is why it was to the extent that you (hohum) would put your life on the line, and furthermore not even participate (even to solidify your conclusions/prove us wrong or right).

It otherwise strikes me as scummy as you understand.

It's a useless discussion to have because her wagon initially started as a lurker wagon, and then morphed into what it was. I felt the morph was disingenuous, clearly I was wrong. How many more times would you like me to say I was wrong?

You're obviously going to vote me for my D2 actions no matter what I say, so just STFU and do it. All you're doing right now is going on a fishing expedition so that you can say "oh well, his behavior was scummy anyways" when I flip.
