if I hear anything from certain individuals about server downtime I'll gladly show those individuals the 4-hour-long dynmap deletion that is currently ongoing. we're either moving to a lowres version of dynmap or we're removing it, because this is a HUGE waste of memory and time on something people barely even use. and all most people do when they do use it is gripe about the lack of a dynmap/IRC bridge which isn't really a priority ATM and probably never will be
Klaz and I are REALLY tempted to remove dynmap - if anybody has sever separation anxiety or has thoughts they should share them
P-Edit: Fishy ILU welcome back and stuff <3-

that's exactly what I clicked yes to - I said that no matter what we're deleting all dynmap renders and switching to lowres, but I didn't realize it would take a full 20 hours to delete them all. I mean, I know that at some point while I was sleeping my connection got cut or something, but this has still been going for at least 10 hours now and I actually don't see any significant progress...-

yeah, as Tierce said - we're running the lastest snapshot now so that we can keep Vanilla bleeding edge while all this Redstone shit is sorted out. a lot of Mods and plugins may break with 1.6 too, so we may eventually have Bukkit on there again, but not for the foreseeable futureIn post 14277, Fishythefish wrote:Thanks! At some point I might get around to trying out FTB. BTW, does vanilla still have dynmap or is that gone?-

If I click on my dynmap shortcut I go to a page that loads a black screen. When the dynmap has been down in the past, I'd get a straight "Page not found" error - is it possible its having trouble deleting stuff because something is still running?
If it stopped making progress, would it be worth cancelling and restarting? everything it already deletedshouldstill be deleted right? I know if I do a move operation and cancel half way through, whatever was already moved stayed moved. Same with a copy - if I cancel half way through, whatever was copied was copied. Delete should work the same right? Maybe that would get it going again if it hung up when you lost your connection?
and I actually get the "page not found" error you speak of...-

at this moment it's still going and I still see no noticeable difference in size...but then again my FTP client can't look at directory sizes so I'm just shooting in the dark based on the number of semi-systematically named dynmap file directories I see *sigh*
also Maru the indirect attack was made with love and not just at you, I've been snippy to a lot of people because of RL frustrations recently and I'd actually like to apologize for that right now
I think you, Blake, davroe, Rhino, and even Klaz all got snapped/raged/yelled at over the past week or so, ILU guys and I'm sorry-

lolnotquiteIn post 14351, Rhinox wrote:I'm kinda interested in a boiler/steam engine setup, because as I understand they can be setup fully automated and maintenance free, just set and forget. But they require a lot of resources to setup.
Steam Boilers and Steam Engines (I'm assuming you mean the Railcraft versions, since the Thermal Expansion versions are exactly like Stirling Engines but 2 MJ/t) are EXTREMELY maintenance heavy unless you have some serious automation going on. And by that I mean "the kind of automation that is near-impossible without RP2 Pneumatic Tubes for insertion and extraction".
Steam Boilers require a substantial amount of Steel to even get crafted, and from then on it's just downhill.
When starting up, before reaching peak temperature and operating efficiency, a Steam Boiler (Low Pressure or High Pressure, it matters not) consumes about 9x the Coal/Coke it would when operating at peak temperature and operating efficiency. (I have no idea what the numbers look like on this, but it's something like a piece of Coal Coke every 15 seconds for 3-5 minutes or something ridiculous.) After that, yes, they produce a CONSIDERABLE amount of Steam to power Railcraft Steam Engines (or to input into some of the new Power Converters gadgetry we have) but they still require a sizable amount of fuel and, if left unattended without fuel for even a short amount of time, they will cool down and lose that peak temperature and operating efficiency - requiring the insane amount of fuel for a full restart.
AND in the meantime, better make sure it's hydrated from the get-go and NEVER loses water supply, because if it does the explosion that results has been compared to a mini-Nuclear Reactor going off in your base. Arguably, this is a negligible concern, but it's still something to think about.
Finally, to get much of ANYTHING out of your Boiler without Power Converters stuff directly sucking up the Steam, you'd need some Commercial or Industrial Steam Engines - another Steel-sucking item to look into. Better have a couple of Blast Furnaces handy because that is gonna take AWHILE (and a fuckton of Coal Coke). <3
I'd honestly suggest Factorization Mirror setups + Power Converters turning it into MJ/t. Uses up all that Silver and Lead you've probably got lying around, and it's the ONLY maintenance-free power available for MJ/t out there at the moment. (No, people: Lava doesn't count. I've had to move my pump 3 times already and it's a goddamn pain.)-

most infiniPower methods have been prevented by Mod authors using MATH and such but you can give that Lava/Steam thing a go...not sure it'll work out as you intend, but I'd definitely recommend Turtles or MultiFarms powering the Charcoal for a Solid-Fueled Firebox
also PSSST you'd need a Liquid-Fueled Firebox for Lava, js-

you're missing how important this is to some people - also the optimal Solar Turbine setup I tested on our server recently definitely got me more than 56 CZ/t and definitely netted more than 11 MJ/t - psure Blake can corroborate thatIn post 14367, Rhinox wrote:easy to set up and requires no maintenance-

@Maru's #14372: nope
it fills up pipes, pipes fill up tanks, tanks fill up Engines, Engines fill up RSECells and everything shuts down - rinse and repeat
we just use a lot of power for ME, which is why I built two cozy Factorization Solar Boiler setups on top of two of our towers
they should work fine until I get the ME Storage mostly external

In post 14325, Klazam wrote:Ok. Heres how to get the pack (1.1.1) working.
Open FTB launcher- Open options, look at the path to the MafiaCraft file it specifies download into. Use that information to find mafiacraft. Open it , go to mine craft, find the CONFIG folder. delete it.
Then download this link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/osdxo ... config.zip , the download for an updated config folder that MUST be used when attempting to connect to the new v1.1.1 server.
Unzip it, and put it in your minecraft folder.
Then you're all good to play.
This config folder will be included in the v1.1.2 fix going out this week. After this week's fix, NO NEW MODS WILL BE ADDED AND NO UPDATES TO THE PACK WILL OCCUR FOR A SOLID MONTH. Period.
-----------------
The Admins are already working on a v1.1.2 patch to the following issue (which occurred even AFTER extensive testing), but to preempt further FTBlessness and to help you guys get on server faster, we're providing the following fix(es): Traincraft has been deleted. MANY Block ID's were changed as of the last update to several Mods, including Traincraft, and because of the way its worldgen works with ExtraBiomes XL, and because of several changes to default config settings assigned by Forge, the alternative to eliminating Traincraft from the server was either a perfect world restarted from scratch, or a permanently fucked up world (including but not limited to, no more Traincraft Petroleum or Copper - except in Red Rock biomes where it replaces every single visible block except Stone, and the loss of every single Ropes+ Rope currently in the world). Don't worry - it'll stay in the pack though. For those of you who love Traincraft, feel free to use the provided default config file, you just won't see it on-server ever again.

given the short discussion you had on IRC that none of the Admins were present for, I would first argue that we're not HERE to cater to the people who play on the server but are not a part of this forum, but more importantly we've also made it public knowledge that we (Klaz and I at least, won't speak for izak) are Minecrat-ed out recently and I at least wanted to wait on this specific fix until:In post 14424, Maruchan wrote:

(Meaning to get davroe19 and rhinox331 to shut the fuck up and quit hounding me for asking a simple question)
a) any and all other possible problems was realized - just so we could fix them at the same time, or
b) any new Mods were suggested/updated - just so we could add them at the same time, or
c) 2 or 3 weeks had gone by
that answer your question?-

since it's just a quick update, if Klaz is on tonight maybe I can catch him and we can push it out for tomorrow - calm down plz Maru-

Oh, I'm sure it would probably work fine in the Modpack. But I don't think everyone understands that for a world to be as stable as possible, the MODS in the Modpack must also be stable. As in, unchanging. As in, the more we update to new versions of Mods/new versions of MC the less stable the world WILL be. It's really not a question of compatibility in most cases - all Mods break eventually. Whether it comes with the Horse Update or whether it was a big deal with the Redstone Update (e.g. RP2, WR-CBE) or whether it comes in the next couple of weeks or months, the server WILL need to restart if you all want to keep using the newest version of all the Mods we have.
I'm saying this again because I think it may not've been clear, especially when people keep asking for updates and changes when they supposedly want a "stable world".-

in the meantime, I borked my Java - thanks Apple!
I can't run Java Apps in Java 6 anymore, and yes I've tried all known methods on the internet of re-enabling the applet directly, they aren't working
my godsend is that MultiMC clearly doesn't give two fucks and runs on whichever JVM it damn well pleases...not that I know how
the same cannot be said for the FTB packs or Vanilla, so I might not be able to get on either of those for awhile :'(-
