Monday, May 20th at 9:00PM - Community Play in MineZ. This will NOT be on my server. Server IP will be given in IRC on the day of.

All of these events depend on exactly when the new server launches. Because I predict that no-one will come to any event scheduled immediately after server launch, once the new server launches, all events afterwards are cancelled. On a similar note, because the server launch seems to have moved up quite a bit, I no longer plan to schedule any other events over the following week.

As for a userbase, I'm 1 user who would return to vanilla in addition to FTB if it was reset. Others have expressed interest in playing vanilla again if the world was reset as well. I was the last in the vanilla server before finally moving primarily to FTB.

I also disagree with rob's fears. Setting up a nether railway, while intensive, is rewarding. Also more fun than warps and TPs.


Whatever we do, NOW is the time to do it. Summer is when server activity has ALWAYS increased, and will ALWAYS increase, with not as great but still AN increase at Christmas activity.

If its going to be done, ti needs to be done soon, and if it isn't done, then the server as it is is in a huge mess.

1- A MC modded server without IC2? You guys have balls. I highly approve. (I'm a bit sad about RP2, but I totally understand the reasons)
2- You guys should reset vanilla, and make the server always run the latest, bleeding-edgest snapshot, and no mods (not even bukkit). Wild wild west style. I volunteer to archive the old vanilla world.

I know client side I can configure one of the forge-based IRC mods to listen to a channel and transmit between your client and a channel, but that would require everyone to have said mod, and for it to update with ever MC version.

Yeah, I'm think the previous server is the only MS server where we didn't invade a village.

AFAIK, the most-recent DW20 server map is the first map since 2011 (or sooner) that the mafiascum community has not centralized around an NPC village.

I move that we immediately begin to wall off the NPC village and preserve it as a historical site, or the "Old Towne" center of our new spawn city. We can build our new houses and and structures around the NPC village. That means no taking over the existing buildings and claiming them as your own. Raid the chests, sure, but keep the structures pristine. I think that would be kinda cool rather than just bastardizing the village.

Move Seconded, I say we make this server grow organically like we had originally planned for the vanilla server, Beginning by walling off the Town Centre, as the NPC village, and moving the player-made village to surround this Inner Sanctum, and wall of the player-made area with another set of walls, as the Outter Sanctum.

Hostile mobs spawn. Enemies deal greater damage than on normal difficulty. The Food Bar can deplete and will slowly kill the player if it drains completely. Creepers will not cancel their attack unless a large distance is between them and the player, making the explosion much harder to avoid. Zombies break through wooden doors.

Mobs are more likely to spawn with armor in higher difficulties.
Villagers killed by a zombie have a greater chance of becoming zombies in higher difficulties.
Explosion damage to entities changes depending on difficulty.
Zombie Pigmen spawn from Nether Portals in the Overworld more often on higher difficulties.

Now, before getting into the realm of considering others, I would LOVE to see hard.

Dying of Hunger, Creepers still blow up if you run away (so no more PUNCH THEM ONCE AND RUN BACK TILL EXPLOSION STOPS method of killing creepers, you legit need a weapon strong enough to 2/3 hit kill a creeper), Zombies will devastate villages unless you work hard to protect them, Mods will spawn (and drop) armor more often, ZOMBIE VILLAGERS FUCKING AWESOME, PIGMEN IN THE OVERWORLD IRRITATING MIST AS SHE BUILDS PORTAL IN HER LIVING ROOM FUCKING BAWLIN. Shit's actually HARD, makes you SCARED of mobs again.

Now, keeping in mind that this server IS a COOPERATIVE BUILD server, and NOT a Player Versus Environment server, a lot of that difficulty just irritates players trying to build epic things. So I would suggest normal. You can't starve to death, creepers will stop TSSSign if you run, Is the difficulty that the rest are based off of (easy deals LESS damage than standard, normal everythinng IS standard, hard id MORE than standard, etc), and all around keeps a challenge, while also keeping the server somewhat safe.

Yes, cave spiders actually have a reason to be more scary than regular spiders, because they are rarer, and only spawn in caves. Yes Withers are supposed to exert the Wither Effect. Yes you are supposed to get down to 1/2 heart of health if you don't eat. This is all GUD \o/

I absolutely think the server should be on Normal difficulty. Easy is basically broken, and not just because of the cave spiders - you can NOT EAT ANYTHING AT ALL and still go around totally fine with 5 hearts until you screw up. And on easy, creepers are a joke - you can just hold them at arm's length and they won't exploide - and their explosions are incredibly wimpy if they do manage to go off. I KNOW that this is a cooperative server, but it still needs to have SOME challenge.

Also, vanilla has been on normal for over a year now. It was one of the first things we discussed after Claus op'd me and Xalxe.

@Rob - Tinker's adds blue slimes, which aren't really any trouble. They're more of a resource than an enemy. Twilight adds whole piles of mobs, that are generally tougher than the overworld mobs, as well as a few difficult boss mobs.

It switched to Easy sometime after I took control. IDK why. never been switched back.

So I've learned the life lesson of some people may have different needs than yours. I just ran out of dirt, and had to go start a dirt mine at the nearest dirt-covered biome, because I live in a desert.

I asked for a change in starter kit, from vanilla glowstone lamps to vanilla glowstone. Allows for the palyer to chose which aesthetically-pleasing glowstone-type brick to make (since there are so many thanks to MODS)

or just use common sense and don't use a frequency already in use, and NOT pick 1000000s of frequencies by calling all containing X color, and making it impossible for anyone else to use ender chests publicly.

My original purpose for calling all of a ender chest starting with X color, was to claim a block of frequencies that was big enough to not be obvious which frequency I was on, so i could still keep a specific frequency secret (because there is no way to make a public frequency truly private, and LWC won't track items pulled out of ender chests) while also leaving frequencies for everyone else. the fact that everyone followed my example was unforseen.

Claiming anything more specific, becomes counter-intuitive and gives an aspiring thief a roadmap to your ender frequencies to loot at will.


EDIT: So yeah Klaz i just set up a periodic restart for the server (restart IF EMPTY) mode, to stop memory leaks causing lag, cause i consistently got periods of bad lag for the past hour.

It'd be a great thing to save people the trouble of getting x dye, only to find out, that dye is already taken. ALSO. Like my chest & pouch we use to e-mail stuff while i'm mining, so its 99.9% empty most of the time. If someone just happens to use those dyes while my chest is empty, and I go to use it the next time, then boom. That person may get my stuff because they might have a sorting system hooked up with there enderchest/pouch.

Tbone, it's chickenbones chests and you have to make dyes on them to get them on a same frequency to work with another one on the same frequency

you didn't ask for endertanks you asked for enderchests.

endertanks, you wouldn't leave it in am empty state I would assume, and if you tap into an endertank that starts filling itself, thats your queue to not use it. If someone stole your endertank frequency while you weren't using it, you'd see because you'd be full of their liquid, so you'd know to change frequencies.

Also Tesserects are the exact same usage of ender tanks, idk which is cheaper or more expensive, but if you're that threatened of someone using your ender tank frequency I would suggest tesserects for liquid transportations.

you edited your OP and deliberately left out the edited by line, at LEAST once to add in everything after your double FULLstop, so therefore I am going to assume it originally said chests only, and you added in tanks just to make it look like i was an idiot, and regardless of cheaper, the rest of my point still stand. when you tune to an endertank frequency that starts filling your tank up, assume said frequency is taken. If you're leaving empty endertanks around, you obviously don't need that frequency and when you come back to it, it will fill up with the other player's liquid.

All this Mod does is change the way the game handles explosions and tells it that something can still explode, it will just drop all the blocks effected by said explosion, instead of destroying them.

if I hear anything from certain individuals about server downtime I'll gladly show those individuals the 4-hour-long dynmap deletion that is currently ongoing. we're either moving to a lowres version of dynmap or we're removing it, because this is a HUGE waste of memory and time on something people barely even use. and all most people do when they do use it is gripe about the lack of a dynmap/IRC bridge which isn't really a priority ATM and probably never will be

Klaz and I are REALLY tempted to remove dynmap - if anybody has sever separation anxiety or has thoughts they should share them

I really, realy, really like dnmap and use it all the time, rspecially now that i've haf no access to ftb.

I use dynmap all the time. I generally always have it open while I'm playing. Its extremely useful to tell where un-generated chunks are, which is useful for avoiding generating new chunks (most cases), or to explore new area if there's something I'm looking for (useful to explore new chunks in a systematic way so as to not explore more than needed). I use it for navigating as well, if there is a biome I'm looking for specifically for some resource, or to know how to find someone's place (I don't have waypoints to everyone). I use it to see where people are and what they're working on. I like looking at peoples structures on the dynmap even if all the blocks don't have a texture. Also, IRC is blocked by my work network and my phone is unreliable in the factory, so dynmap is the only way I am able to communicate with people playing on the server for roughly 50hrs per week.

Basically, I've gotten pretty used to playing with dynmap and I'd have to change the way I play if it were to be no more, and I'd be somewhat more disconnected from the community. That being said, the 3D res can probably easily by dialed back a couple clicks. I recall it zooming it more than practical most of the time, while the 2D felt about right. Really though, if I had the choice between way scaled back, or no dynmap at all, I'd still choose way scaled back for the navigation and locating of un-generated chunks, while zooming in is only really useful for viewing structures which is already limited due to not every block having dynmap textures.

tl;dr: please don't take away dynmap completely

I used dynmap all the time, and it isn't just to complain about the lack of chat so your "indirect" attack can go fuck itself. I use it to keep myself updated on what others are doing, like ClamCastle and honeyopolis, since it was too laggy for me to go there myself. I also use it to look for where i feel like building, and for getting directions to peoples' places i don't remember how to get to extremely well.

The beauty of using dynmap, is it gets used without being publicized its being used, so there is no good way to accurately gauge it's usage, other than to have corin monitor the bandwidth used by that URL/port specifically.

that's exactly what I clicked yes to - I said that no matter what we're deleting all dynmap renders and switching to lowres, but I didn't realize it would take a full 20 hours to delete them all. I mean, I know that at some point while I was sleeping my connection got cut or something, but this has still been going for at least 10 hours now and I actually don't see any significant progress...

I usually open 10 separate FileZilla windows, and set each one to delete 1/10th of the dynmap, it it still takes ~2-4 hours.

deleting large masses of folders through FTP is MUCH MUCH slower tan deleting them on your dekstop, it can only delete something like 10 or so files per second.

I'm kinda interested in a boiler/steam engine setup, because as I understand they can be setup fully automated and maintenance free, just set and forget. But they require a lot of resources to setup.

Steam Boilers and Steam Engines (I'm assuming you mean the Railcraft versions, since the Thermal Expansion versions are exactly like Stirling Engines but 2 MJ/t) are EXTREMELY maintenance heavy unless you have some serious automation going on. And by that I mean "the kind of automation that is near-impossible without RP2 Pneumatic Tubes for insertion and extraction".

Steam Boilers require a substantial amount of Steel to even get crafted, and from then on it's just downhill.

When starting up, before reaching peak temperature and operating efficiency, a Steam Boiler (Low Pressure or High Pressure, it matters not) consumes about 9x the Coal/Coke it would when operating at peak temperature and operating efficiency. (I have no idea what the numbers look like on this, but it's something like a piece of Coal Coke every 15 seconds for 3-5 minutes or something ridiculous.) After that, yes, they produce a CONSIDERABLE amount of Steam to power Railcraft Steam Engines (or to input into some of the new Power Converters gadgetry we have) but they still require a sizable amount of fuel and, if left unattended without fuel for even a short amount of time, they will cool down and lose that peak temperature and operating efficiency - requiring the insane amount of fuel for a full restart.

AND in the meantime, better make sure it's hydrated from the get-go and NEVER loses water supply, because if it does the explosion that results has been compared to a mini-Nuclear Reactor going off in your base. Arguably, this is a negligible concern, but it's still something to think about.

Finally, to get much of ANYTHING out of your Boiler without Power Converters stuff directly sucking up the Steam, you'd need some Commercial or Industrial Steam Engines - another Steel-sucking item to look into. Better have a couple of Blast Furnaces handy because that is gonna take AWHILE (and a fuckton of Coal Coke). <3

I'd honestly suggest Factorization Mirror setups + Power Converters turning it into MJ/t. Uses up all that Silver and Lead you've probably got lying around, and it's the ONLY maintenance-free power available for MJ/t out there at the moment. (No, people: Lava doesn't count. I've had to move my pump 3 times already and it's a goddamn pain.)

you also probably have your infinilava setup to run when it doesn't necessarily need to be, as well as wasting quite a bit of lava.

Been researching...

A max single ring solar farm holds 56 mirrors. That's 56 charge/t. According to documentation, that converts through power converters to 56 * 875/4375 = 11.2 MJ/t. Not all that impressive...

Because the solar boilers stack now though, some clever configurations can fill every block inside that ring with mirrors as well. Thats 240 mirrors total (I counted) in one farm, for 48 MJ/t. Better, but... those 240 mirrors still need 8 silver ingots per mirror (1920 ingots total, or 30 stacks).

Also, does power converters eat any of that up in the conversion process? And it only works during day? Does it shut down during rain as well?

Just as a comparison, one 36 block HP boiler and the 18 steam engines it would provide steam for would cost 312/360 steel ingots (< 6 stacks) depending on which firebox used, and would produce 144 MJ/t. Granted there are a lot of other resources involved along the way, and probably more time and complexity to the setup, but if I add the numbers of EVERY resource on my spreadsheet so far (even including what is required for a coke oven and blast furnace) I'm still only at 1158 total resources so far (and thats even double counting some things based on how the spreadsheet is setup).

I would need 3 full 240 mirror farms to get to the same 144 MJ/t output as a single boiler, which means I'm now up to needing 90 stacks of silver. I'm sure that would look pretty awesome but... Oh right I forgot. It only works during day. So if I wanted to truly match the output of 1 boiler, I'd want to double that again to 6 full 240 mirror farms, or 180 stacks of silver. 180 stacks of silver to match the output of a 36H steam boiler powering 18 industrial steam engines.


So umm... maybe its easy to set up and requires no maintenance but it seems to require a shitload more resources than boilers to match their output. What am I missing?

Something weird going on with the FTB server. Didn't it used to restart every so often? I haven't seen it do that since we reset.

The problem I'm having (and Oso now too) is our Tinkers Construct smelteries wont activate, despite being configured correctly. Can an admin get online and help? I've googled and cannot find the answer.

Now that there is considerable presence on the Vanilla server, i find it is safe enough to make an announcement.

About a week or so after the file problem with the vanilla server, Corin chanced upon a twin file system of the multicraft where every missing multicraft file was stored, but the multicraft interface was reading from the empty ghost-folder system. He let me know, and told me he could have the repaired vanilla server back up to within 24 hours restore point of where it was at the point it went down, in under an hour's work.

As most of the community had not expressed to many dislikes at the missing vanilla world, and expressed a genuine want to update to Beta builds, as well as having already told the server owner, and been told he was fine with it and wanted to update to beta builds, I decided to not tell anyone I found the old server, and let you guys continue with your plans towards the new.

HOWEVER, I DID ask Corin to make a few backups of the world file as it was within hours of the vanilla server's death, and upload them to multiple locations ,where they would be safe so I could get to them in the future.

SO, if anyone ever wants a nearly-current up-to-date copy of the old Vanilla server map, I have the map (and just the map, not playerfiles, so you may not be where your house actually is) available somewhere, and will get a download link set up shortly.

HOWEVER, I currently do NOT have access to it, due to Corin's MIA status. as soon as his internet comes back, I'll get the info and toss a copy up on google docs for you guys.

given the short discussion you had on IRC that none of the Admins were present for, I would first argue that we're not HERE to cater to the people who play on the server but are not a part of this forum, but more importantly we've also made it public knowledge that we (Klaz and I at least, won't speak for izak) are Minecrat-ed out recently and I at least wanted to wait on this specific fix until:

a) any and all other possible problems was realized - just so we could fix them at the same time, or

In the middle of getting the most recent backups and the actual world files from the old MafiaScum Vanilla Server map onto my PC, where I'll compress them then upload them to my Google Docs and throw links to M so he can do with what he will (preferably tossing in OP).

1. Solving the "we all love each other lets have fun COMMUNITYROCKS" aspect: No mods have not been good for us. They cause lots f stress and Drama.
2. Solving the Activity, enjoyment, and pretty much why a server for MS existed in the first place aspect: Yes modded minecraft has brought a much needed activity boost to this community, and brought many more people who had previously slowly faded back online.
3. RE: KMP. You know thats how this all started right? I was screwing around with mods, all on my own. Decided to throw up a small little server and have blake join me and invited any of you who were adventurous enough to try to install 500000 mods to join me. It was me, you, blake, rhinox, tbone just pretty much derpingaround having lots of fun no seriousbznz shit for awhile. Then we were so active (See 2 above) that it drew the attention of other minecraft lovers, and they decided they wanted to get in on that. After many failed attempts, we started releasing our own privately modded minecraft.jar and anyone with PCs joined us. This was great until we realized we have a lot of mac users, and we couldn't figure anything out so we decided to reset and go with MindCrack FTB. As soona s it became 1-click easy, MASS EXODUS TO MODDED happened, and MafiaCraft modded server was born, and became community shizzles.
I talked to Klaz, and pointed this out and he recognized the same thing is happening to KMP. I forsee it becoming MafiaCraft 3.0 (since MafiaCraft 2.0 is for the dying server i originally started), so really by offering KMP as modded alternative, you're not really doing anything but evolving it into the next mafiascum modded server.
4. Vanilla: Mentioning mass exodus back to vanilla and KMP IS AWESOME in the same post is suicide. Pick one to sponsor as your idea and go with it.

I don't think so. Even with DW20 and MindCrack we had issues outside of "lets throw hundreds of dollars at this a month and hope it bandaids the problem". If your server is actively using 20GB of ram, with 0 players online, and the overall playerbase of the server is <100, you've got issues. I have never met a server owner with a palyerbase of our size who had is or her servers eat as much ram as MS servers tend to.

First off, almost nobody is near where their homes are and their homes in many cases are tens of thousands of blocks away. There is no real easy way to get to anything, as well as worldgen'ing issues because the map is actually still in parts a 1.8 map. Before we lost the files, there was already discussions about a future restart to the vanilla server, with less commands and Bukkit.

Quick announcement: My server is currently open to all who want to join me. I'm using a modpack from the ATLauncher called Magicality. It features 1.6.4 mods like TC4, Ars Magica 2, and Magical Crops as well as a few others that we all know and love. It will NOT be open 24/7, as people want to play the vanilla server too. I'll likely try to balance the two; however, please note that this is a NON Tech mod, meaning no IC2, no Buildcraft, Forestry or anything of the sort.

For the skeptics. Ars Magica 2 is nothing like it used to be and is far more balanced. The mobs are not impossible anymore and there isn't much worldgen at all.
So, the option is there and I'd love to play with some people.

The way 1.6.4 works is that you have to go and reload all the structures (naturally generated ones, that is) while you're on 1.6.4 BEFORE you update to 1.7, or else 1.7 will break them. So strongholds, witch huts, dungeons, they all need to be visited in 1.6.4 before a 1.7 update.

use Bukkit + a world-border type plugin to "ghost" every chunk within X radius from a designated point on 1.6.4 before updating. That will load every chunk it tells you to as if you ran through them.

We should do something like we did on MME's server again and find a testificate village to build a community town around. Have everyone come and build some house or settlement there, throw in some community resource projects like the woodfarm foodfarm etc, and then build a wall around it all, and make it near spawn so we can guide new players there.

That was my favorite part of this server when I first joined, and really was what made me like minecraft. Without that community village type setting this just doesn't feel like the MS server that inspired me to buy miencraft and get accounts for friends to get them to play. It feels like a different game now and I miss that.

Tierce can we do something about how laggy your house in that bay at spawn is? I drop half my FPS if it's in my render area and I'm looking at it, and down to a quarter of my FPS if I'm in the same chunk or two as it. We're planning on turning that entire bay into a spawntown community village like our old old server and I can't even go near your house

I just lost by bucket of water, 2 diamond pickaxes, 2 iron pickaxes, 3 iron shovels, a stoen shovel, my diamond sword, a stack and a half of torches and all of my bread to lava. Plus the 20-30 coal and redstone i was mining.

My stable is handled by a mechanism that fools them into thinking they don't have space to escape. I haven't had trouble with this so far.

However, at least three horses have escaped today. This means someone was inside my stable and either rode them or pushed them out of their stalls. And then didn't ride them back. Why would you do something like that?

And who the hell cut down ALL the swamp trees by my place? They have specific shapes, I can't replant them, and you didn't even bother to leave a note or saplings. Trees OUTSIDE the wall! In my area!

In other words, yeah, I'm pissed. This is a lack of respect.

That was a very cool world. I was the one that discovered the griefing. I was really sad that my entire village was burnt down and my "awesome" wooden bridge. I loved that world.

Whatever I don't care about the idea anymore. Take your shit up with whoever still cares about having a town at spawn.

I don't mind neighbors. But you know what happened on the last server? Overnight, Bulbazak's gigantic spruce planks cube sprouted up on "my" area.

Just as a side note, I had put a chest with a few sticks and a lil bit of food on that island where you both wanted to build about 24 hours after the server started, before M's castle on the mountain started, and decided I wanted to move in there. Then when I logged back in like a month later i was glitched into some giant hugeass ugly monstrosity that was made to look like an archery range and saw two others had claimed my tiny island.

Am I the only one who looks at Rhino's "history lesson" and wants this whole "this is my area" attitude to go away? I've really disliked it wherever I've seen it, not just now, and the only times it's actually really pertinent are when a location is attractive from the worldgen up - even then, we don't

have

"plots" of land at this point, so I really don't think people should be claiming land like we do...

You have a house, you have yard, you probably have connecting pathways and such, and yeah "sightlines" are potentially an issue (that's what the Ugly Shit rule is for), so why do we need large swaths of land near spawn to be under ownership...?

I looked at his history lesson and went "I want to pay $20 a month to re-host the old 1.4 server again", why?

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Grand opening of my pyramid maze will be soon! I made some major progress tonight and finished the major part of the work. As of this moment, the interior of the pyramid is closed and off limits until the grand opening event, while I complete the finishing touches. This weekend would be possible and ideal except I will be out of town and unable to join in the fun. Probably will have to be sometime next week or next weekend. Basically, I think it would be fun to arrange a time for everyone who wants to try the maze to get online at the same time and enter the maze all at once. Kinda have a race to see who can get out the fastest, maybe have M around to teleport out anyone who gives up during the event (after the event will be don't go in unless you intend to find your own way out probably, or beg M for rescue on your own).

So yeah,

anyone who is interested and wants to be part of the event, post here saying so, and give a general idea of your availability between the 20th-26th

so I can pick a good time everyone will be able to participate if they choose.

I'm really excited. This is essentially the maze I've been wanting to build for maybe as long as 2 years and its finally happening. I hope lots of you will join in and enjoy!

I know I used to hang out with you/iut, tbone/rhinox a lot, but I don't SPECIFICALLY remember when/what server iteration this was, or if this was during skyfarm? I know there were a bunch of times I was "getting back into miencraft" i threw a bed up with people to "be their slave" then never logged back in.

Does anyone else have problems accessing mafiascum on verizon's network? I get a "resolving Host" for about a minute before can not connect pages pop up in 5 different browsers, no matter what i do to try to fix it. i've cleared all cookies cache history etc in all my browsers, and everything.

I had to proxy my way in to the site.
