If I had to guess, it is some kind of memory leak in the snapshot. It wasn't happening before the snapshot like this, and it gets better when the server is restarted. We had some minor lag before the snapshot upgrade, but that went away when klaz upgraded the server to 2gigs. Then we upgraded to the snapshot and the lag came back much worse like you're experiencing.

I could be wrong, but that seems to make sense with whats happening.

Er, yeah, no. This horrendous lag started right after Klaz upgraded us to 2GB, and has been going on semi-sporadirandomly since.
This is not the fault of the snapshot, it is something in the server or it is something to do with our hosts, or both.

Lower your max fps to 30 frames. Should help quite a bit.

Long story short is: it's unlikely that, even if Mojang cleans up the despawn zombie + chicken issue for chicken jockeys, that the chickens that have so far been spawned in caves will be despawned by the system. Therefore, we should clean up the areas as much as possible. If you hear zombie sounds in the same area, repeatedly, or a chicken in a cave,
please
try and find your way to them. You can only hear mobs from up to 16 blocks away, so that's the search radius. Kill the chickens, kill mobs carrying eggs, light up the area.

Klaz, I don't know if you have been in Vanilla recently, but if you have, I can help you patrol areas you have visited to make sure there are no mob sounds indicative of mob groups.

Alternatively, and I don't know how much M is up for this, temporarily using a resource pack with transparent stone textures would help identify where there are cave chickens and deal with those before they lay more eggs and create more mob mobs.

huh... thats something alright, but idk if that's what is causing the current problems.

I mean, the day you were afk at your village breeder, so many villagers spawned that hostile mobs stopped spawning at night, because we were over the mob limit. Lag was bad then for sure, but the recent lag has been bad AND new mobs continue to spawn, which tells me we're not hitting a mob limit. Mobs not despawning like you described can't be good in general, but idk if digging holes every to go kill chickens is really going to fix the problem we've been having.

Was anyone else online when UT was complaining about the lag this morning? Because, a zombie horde under tierce's base wouldn't be causing problems for the whole server if the chunks weren't loaded. Though, it probably explains the frame rate drop when approaching your house though, tierce.

I already dealt with the horde and lit up the area--I also patrolled everywhere nearby to see if I heard zombies. Villagers attract zombies from up to 32 blocks away, IIRC, so that can't be it anymore unless there is
yet
another horde nearby that is just far off enough that I can't hear it through the walls. If that is what's happening, I guess I'll have to hunt them down through entity count checks.

The question is: has anyone had framerate issues by my place in the
last 48 hours
? Framerate will always decrease a bit there, but it shouldn't be anywhere near as bad as described at this point in time.
