How do I enter? Do I just pick a song from a country not on the list in the OP?

If so, can I call England or Canada? Preference Canada.

A lot of them don't sound anything alike.

We spend weeks preening over how great our taste in music is and how everyone else's sucks, then we rabble when the results are late, then we cry in our beers as he place on the right hand side of the results.

Oh today I found out my friend now listens to only "post-hardcore." She can't even explain what it is.

She had me listen to some. It kind of sounds like Panic at the disco but not as bad and with a bit more screaming and people you've never heard of.

I hate genres so much.

Sounds like she might not know what it is.

Following the emergence of Punk Rock in the late 70s, bands began to expand upon its aesthetic of 'loud, hard, and fast' musical and vocal technique. Mixing together elements of their forebearers from Hardcore Punk (largely Black Flag and Dead Kennedys), Experimental Rock bands like The Velvet Underground and The Residents, with a helping of the sounds of its close cousins in Noise Rock and Emo, Post-Hardcore has undergone a continual expansion and shifting in what constitutes its musical identity.

Post-Hardcore can be considered to have begun in earnest in the Mid-80s. These bands were based on Hardcore Punk's aggression and dynamics, but many of them expanded it through longer and more complex arrangements with an ebb and flow of building tension and release both in the music and vocals. Notable bands of this early era are Big Black, Hüsker Dü, and Minutemen.

Soon after, a second wave of Post-Hardcore emerged. In addition to the traditional influences, this owed an equal debt to the addition of Post-Punk bands like Television and Wire, with a sprinkling of Dub, Funk, or Jazz-Rock. Some bands, Fugazi for instance, have straddled both styles.

Post-Hardcore today encompasses both of these previous incarnations, and has incorporated what can be considered a third-wave set of artists who took cues from first-wave bands, and added an aggressive mix with Emo, known as Screamo. Envy and Off Minor are good examples of this style.

Ironically, I like a lot of the bands listed above.

I like all sorts of shit. I just never bother to find out how they define themselves. I prefer to view each band like its own sort of genre.

I chose what I did because everyone knows who Heart is, but not everyone knows what their music is really like. I thought about entering something to show off my eclectic tastes, but in the end, I went with the track I've been jamming to the most lately.

Mali - I kind of enjoyed this, but I got bored quickly.
Ireland - I really liked this song and the comments about the headless girl in the youtube comments made me laugh. You got points.
Macedonia - I liked this okay, but I don't remember it now. Didn't stick out. Sounds pretty typical for the genre with no distinguishing features.
Peru - Did not feel this.
Italy - I like No Doubt a lot, but this song was always pretty weird for me.
France - LOVE! I used to listen to McLusky all the time and I had totally forgotten about them. This track <3
Germany - I liked this track, and it received points somewhere down the line, but it was a little strange. The verses felt a little bit like Rilo Kiley and then the choruses were like Brittney Spears ... and the lyrics were terrible. But overall, it was something different and I enjoyed listening to it.
Vatican City - Of course I love this track.
Denmark - Listened to this and forgot everything about it promptly. That says enough.
Chile - One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. Seen them live!
Palestine - I liked this. It was a bit different. I felt like it could have gone somewhere it didn't go, but overall like.
Sweden - I liked it okay, but it was repetitive. The youtube comments made me want to kick people in the face.
Bhutan - I expected to hate this, but I actually liked it. It was something really different and the video captivated me, so it got points. Still don't know why it's called that.
England - I wanted to like it a lot, but the singing was out of key and as a singer I couldn't get into it. Sorry. >.>
Tristram - It was nice, but boring to listen to on its own. I'm sure it's nice game background music.
Switzerland - Not at all what I expected. Fun for like a minute, then boring.
Scotland - I liked this song a lot when I was younger, but it's too bubblegum for me now. Nostalgia was good though.
Canada - Who doesn't love the fuck out of this song?
Israel - Cute. Repetitive, but enjoyable.
Belgium - WHY? I hate you.
Brazil - Also hate you.
Laos - I enjoyed this. I don't have a lot to say about it, but I was mildly interested the whole time I listened to it.
Swaziland - Well, I do love this piece, but I wasn't really in the mood for classical at the time.
Guatamala - I like some MCR, but not this song ... at all.
Finland - One of the weirdest things I've seen in a long time. I didn't LIKE it, but I liked how weird it was.

Copying shafted. >.>

It's awesome how instead of commenting on the music, you focus on the fact that like a 40-50 y/o woman weighs more than 2 pounds now. (By awesome, I mean stereotypical and extremely annoying.)

I'm just glad someone enjoyed Black on Black II. It's seriously one of my favorite songs ever, and even if it had to hide in false obscurity, it's nice to introduce it to someone who liked it.

(To be fair, while Heart is fairly well known, though not exactly "mainstream" anymore, that song is not at all.)

I keep some comments ambiguous so you don't know exactly how I'll vote. Unbunch your panties please.

It annoys me that any time anyone says anything about Heart anymore, that's all they say. "Ann got fat... What a shame."

Ann is an amazingly talented musician. I looked it up and she is
61 years old
. She's still an amazingly talented musician and singer, and she looks really great for her age. No one talks about their music anymore. All they talk about it is the fact that she used to be SUPER HOT when she was 20-40ish but now she isn't and it "disgusts them."

Just look at the Youtube comments...

When Ann aged and ceased to be a sex symbol, they lost a lot of fans.

That's
what's disgusting.

I don't care if you were being ambiguous. What you said is telling.

You're not a real fan.

:P

I don't memorize people's lives like that. More concerned with the music.

I have seen them live, though, and they totally rocked my socks off.

I was a casual fan of them until then. Saw they happened to be playing in a city I was visiting, so I got my mom to take me since I'm morally obligated to spend time with her and she would have heard of this band as well.

They were AMAZING. I hope I still sing that well when I'm 60. Holy crap.

It was a huge outdoor arena and we only had lawn tickets, which can sometimes be not-the-best-shows unless you're with friends to liven it up, but it was one of the best shows I have ever been to. If a band fucking KILLS IT all the way on the lawn, they're really killing it.

Um, that wouldn't make it matter... I can say that I am annoyed about something without making it matter.

You do realize you are arguing that because I commented on Fugitive criticizing a singer's appearance, I am making her appearance relevant to the quality of her music, right?

Fugitive, I'm not super sensitive at all. I just have a stance on this particular issue and am totally free to express it just as you are totally free to say that you hate that Ann isn't as pretty at 60 as she was at 20.

She still sings really well, though not quite as well as she did when she was younger. Mostly she just doesn't have the same sustain.

It seems Nancy wasn't at your show? That probably makes a huge difference.

At my show, Nancy and Ann were both there, both singing, and both playing (several instruments in Ann's case).

Whatever the case, the show I went to was an "on" night and was really good.

Nancy was most definitely at the show, but all she did was play rhythm guitar while some random dude did all the hard work.

Oh my God that's really weird. Definitely didn't happen at the show I went to. Though the one I went to, they headlined alone. Idk how that would make a difference. Strange.

Only has-beens play county fairs, Amrun.

Only people that are awesome enough to have huge name recognition but waxing in years play there. Those can be good and relatively cheap shows and you get the honor of seeing someone awesome.

And actually you're wrong about ZZ Top. Maybe they play county fairs, but I doubt it. They were doing a humongous headline tour in Munchen when I was there and there were posters EVERYWHERE.

Of course, I like going to see things out of honor and recognition and supporting the artists. Last year I paid a dickload to see Bob Dylan, and it was the worst concert ever. But I loved it anyway because <3 Bob Dylan

I also want to thank anyone who gave constructive criticism. As I understand it, the main failings of my song were the sound quality and my tone/key? I admit, I did kinda cobble it together last minute; the other one that I wanted to do needed a complex melody/harmony that I just couldn't write in time.

Oh, and <3 to Johhog and Junpei. You guys rule.

As to the others, the "=/" and the "c-c-c-combo breaker"'s of this world, shame on you. What's the point in reviewing someone's work, especially someone who you KNOW will be reading your critiques, and not saying anything constructive?

But overall, thanks for having me. I think I'll stay out of original work for the time being; maybe learning to sing would be a distinct advantage. :P

To be honest, I had no problem with the melody itself; it was simple, but the lyrics were the star there, not the melody.

I think what needs to be fixed in the song is simply your pitch. Your tonality is a little breathy/small, but that's okay too as it's your own character. You could improve on this in the long run, but the only thing that needs immediate fixing is pitch.

I'm a musician (especially a vocalist) and I had a difficult time listening to the song because your pitches were almost constantly off.

One thing that might help is recording the melody and the piano separately; there's no reason you can't, for a recording format.

And I'll do some long-distance vocals for your tracks anytime. :)
