Rules
0. This is a game. Have fun, don't let things get too personal.
1. Each day you may try to lynch somebody. A player is considered lynched when they have a simple majority of votes. You may also vote for "No Lynch", which is a vote not to lynch anyone.
2. Vote should be in the formVote: Playername. Votes must be bolded and in this format or they may not count. It is also necessary to unvote anyone you're voting for before voting for another player. If you fail to do so, your vote may not be counted.
3. If discussion lags, a deadline may be set. This deadline can be placed or removed entirely at my discretion. At the deadline, the number of votes required to lynch someone will decrease by one. If this still does not cause a lynch, or if there is a tie, there will be No Lynch.
4. After a majority to lynch has been reached, do not talk in the thread. Wait for me to get here and announce Night.
5. Do not edit your posts. Ever. No matter what. No, really. Don't do it.
6. Do not quote any PMs you recieve from me, or pretend to. You may paraphrase, or fake-paraphrase.
7. If you die, you're dead. Do not talk until the game is over; this includes talking to living players outside the thread.
8. Mafiates may communicate with one another at night, but not at any other time. Other than that, do not talk to other players outside the thread.
9. Please let me and the other players know if you will have limited/no access for more than a day or two.
10. Do not change the size of your font or otherwise modify the words in your posts so that they are not clearly visible to everyone.
11. My color is green. Don't use it.Last edited by Cephrir on Wed Feb 04, 2009 1:13 pm, edited 1 time in total.-

This game uses the F11 Newbie Setup. As such, the setup is one of the following, chosen at random:
-1 Mafia Roleblocker, 1 Mafia Goon, 1 Sane Cop, 1 Doctor, 5 Townies
-1 Mafia Roleblocker, 1 Mafia Goon, 7 Townies
-2 Mafia Goons, 1 Sane Cop, 6 Townies
-2 Mafia Goons, 1 Doctor, 6 Townies
Role PMs:
Townie Role PM wrote:You are a townie. You have no special powers, but you may vote on who to lynch during the day along with everyone else.
You win when both mafiates are dead.
Please confirm that you have recieved your role by PMing me.Cop Role PM wrote:You are the Cop. Each Night, you may investigate one player by sending me their name. I will tell you their alignment, town or mafia (unless you are roleblocked). Your sanity is guaranteed, which means that your result is guaranteed to be correct. You may not investigate yourself.
You win when both mafiates are dead.
Please confirm that you have recieved your role by PMing me.Doctor Role PM wrote:You are the Doctor. Each Night, you may choose one player to protect and send me their name. If that player would die, instead they will not (unless you are roleblocked). Additionally, you may not target yourself.
You win when both mafiates are dead.
Please confirm that you have recieved your role by PMing me.Mafia Roleblocker Role PM wrote:You are the Mafia Roleblocker. Your partner is _______ (Mafia Goon). The two of you may communicate at Night, but not during the Day. Each Night, you and your partner may converse and determine who you wish to kill, as well as who you will roleblock. You may also converse during the pregame phase. If your partner dies, you may still roleblock and kill on the same night.
You win when all town-aligned players are dead, or nothing can prevent this.
Please confirm that you have recieved your role by PMing me.Mafia Goon Role PM wrote:You are a Mafia Goon. Your partner is ________ (Mafia Goon/Mafia Roleblocker). The two of you may talk to one another at Night, but not during Day, and send me a choice as to who you wish to kill (and roleblock, if your partner is a roleblocker). You may also talk during the pregame phase.
You win when all town-aligned players are dead, or nothing can prevent this.

Hey guys, I'm glad the game has started!
As one of your I.C.'s, feel free to ask me questions or make me explain why I do what I do! I hope I am easy to talk to.
Good luck, have fun.
Now;
I'm going to go ahead andVote: Imagefor calling his vote on Xtoxm random when, in fact, it isn't.

The problem is that you could have "randomly" voted forimage wrote:I did not call my vote random, although deciding to vote for the first person to confirm is about as good as random when there is no relevant information in the game yet.anyoneand given the same kind of reason (first to confirm, last to confirm, first on the list, last on the list, etc).
By saying the vote is random, you're asking us to take your word on the claim that you would have voted for whomever was last on the list.
The fact that you defend your vote as random gives me grounds to keep my vote where it is.
Furthermore, placing an OMGUS on someone, andstatingthat it is OMGUS, reeks of WIFOM to me.

And I'm really not sure how I feel about this:
ZEEnon wrote:i'm not sure if i have to wait
until my name turns bold,
but i've been waiting a day to be
able to post, so i think i can participate
in the conversation now .
anyways, bandwagon is a very
scumish thing to do .. just to let you know .
i think you should be more careful .

That is pretty much my point. While not truly random, a vote based off of something like this might as well be since there wasPorkens wrote:The problem is that you could have "randomly" voted foranyoneand given the same kind of reason (first to confirm, last to confirm, first on the list, last on the list, etc).noinformation in the game when I posted. And if I had just posted a vote for Xtoxm without saying it was because he confirmed first, I'm asking you just as much to believe that it is truly random as I am now asking you to believe that my vote was not actually caused by some deep scum stratagem. I don't see how placing a vote based on someone's position in a list (or claiming to do so) is any more scummy than basing a vote on the roll of a die. I did not, and am not now calling my vote random; I am saying that it is not fundamentally different from a truly random vote at this stage of the game.
I note that you seem awfully quick to lay accusations based on something as minor as whether or not a Day One vote is truly random."Have you noticed how people's intellectual curiosity declines sharply the moment they start waving guns about?"

The point is that we have to take your word for it that the vote was actually based on xtoxm's possition in the list.
The decision to vote for Xtoxm could just as easily have come before the rationalization for it. We can't know.
If you want to show us that you are voting truly randomly, you can use the dice tags. Otherwise, we have no way of knowing how you actually reached your decision.
Doing what you did is scummier than basing your vote on a roll of the die because we have no way to know what's goin' on on your side of the internet. Also, calling something random, when it isn't, is a convenient way to hide intent.
I've caught scum hiding behind "random" votes beforeimage wrote:I note that you seem awfully quick to lay accusations based on something as minor as whether or not a Day One vote is truly random.
Sorry, I shouldn't have quoted the bit about your name. The relevant issue is the FOS instead of a Vote. It seems to me that if you suspect that Xtomx is trying to push the wagon forward because he's scum; you'd vote for him. If you think he's town making a bad move; you wouldn't FOS him.ZEEnon wrote: all i said was that it took a while

and i gave a reason for me to suspect Xtoxm .
i guess that's hard for you to interpret .
FOS is a useful tool, but in this case it looks like your just trying to be non-committal.-

It seems fairly normal to vote for an insubstantial reason on Day One; yes, it is slightly more scummy than attaching dice tags along with a proof of the randomness of the algorithm used by the forum, (which itself isn't truly random, only a good approximation) but in the same vein not getting night killed on the first night is slightly more scummy than dying, but most people who live through night one are not scum, and it hardly makes a good case against someone."Have you noticed how people's intellectual curiosity declines sharply the moment they start waving guns about?"

if he did the bandwagon because
he is a newbie, or because he is scum .

which people haven't played Mafia online before .
let me explain to you one tactic Mafia
use to lynch innocents. they discreetly
vote for the person with the most votes.
of course, a newbie might announce that he
is doing the bandwagon, either thinking
that is what people normally do,
OR making it 'seem' like he isn't scum
because normally a mafia wouldn't
say that out in the open .
Vote: LynchHimNotMe
Explain to me HOW it doesn't sound right to you.
was it the 'bandwagon' part ?
the 'scumish thing to do' part ?
or maybe it was the 'i think you should be careful' part ..
if i was protecting image then i would
have probably FoSed Porkens, not Xtoxm .
Porkens supported his argument,
unlike Xtoxm'sbandwagonvote .-

Xtoxm is one of the ICs here; not likely to play like a newbie. However, jumping on a bandwagon this early in Day One probably isn't very scummy since it's not likely to lead to a lynch this early in Day One. (I hope...)ZEEnon wrote:i used FoS because i'm not sure

first of all, what you said sounded to me like you are trying to sound pro-town "bandwagon is a very scummish thing to do .. just to let you know". it's very hard to explain EXACTLY what it is that didn't sound right, thus I FoSed you and didn't vote me. HOWEVER, you threw a vote my way which I interpreted as a non-random vote when you don't have anything against me.
In addition, you started getting really antsy after Xtoxm's vote which to me is clearly not a serious vote. Yet you became all tense and FoSed him.
also, I've played Mafia longer than you've been born (re: Pokemon avatar)...and do you even know what discreet means?
oh and there's nothing wrong with FoSing someone (you, in this case) who sounds scummy to ME, even if others also find it that way.Stats: W/L/T/A

*sigh* sorry for late reply,
i wasn't home all day .
i'm not saying that because
Xtoxm bandwagoned I am
sure he is scum .. i'm saying
that I'm just going to watch him
more closely. it wasn't really
a serious FoS .. well not to me .
well SORRY for sounding pro-town ..
LynchHimNotMe, i placed my vote
on you as a tactic to pressure you,
not in order to have you lynched.
you seem very townie to me.
if I didn't know what discreet meant
why would I use the word ?
also read more carefully,
I didn't say there was anything
wrong with your FoS ..-
