Mini 627: Riverword Smalltown


Smalltown: Smalltown is a mafia variation in which all roles are usually unique and public. The town (in a randomly selected order) picks from the available roles. Then the alignments are randomized (and are not public). There are 3 mafia, 1 SK, and 8 townies. Check out this game as a reference: Heroes Smalltown

The Back Story:


Everyone who has ever been born, lived, or died on Earth wakes up at the same time in a new land. You are “reborn” hairless (though it grows back later), in your mid 20’s, healthy, in your prime, and with all memories of your past life and experiences. Everyone is born with a solid metallic cylinder (about 2 feet in length) attached to your dominate wrist. Curiously enough, everyone seems to be able to understand everyone else. You awoken in a landscape that is beautiful and is lush with plant and animal life. The air is clean and the water is pure. The biggest river you have ever seen cuts through the land and runs as far as the eye can see in both directions. Dotted along the shore of this massive river are tall structures (roughly the size of a small house) that can best be described as a “metal mushrooms”. Upon examination on of these metal mushrooms (MMs) it is discovered that each have approximately 100 holes roughly the size of your cylinder. Upon inserting your cylinder you discover that small door that open and inside is a meal that you are accustomed to. After some trial and error, you find that you can do this 3 times a day.

Eventually people gravitate toward these MMs and begin to set up camps. It is peaceful and the landscape is breath taking. However even in this “paradise” men draw lines and find reasons to try to control and kill each other. You all have come to this particular MM to set up camp. You have named this camp “Homestead”. Some of you want to explore and try to find out the reasons behind why and how you got here, but for now you need the safety and shelter of the camp. However, there are now forces that threaten you in your new home….they must be eliminated before anyone can leave to ensure the safety of those friends you leave behind and have come to care for. Several have come forward as leaders of the Homestead. They are:

The Rules

(Parts blatantly and inexcusably ripped off from such greats as Seol, Xdaamno, "Mr. Grey", and Guardian)


Pregame Rules:


1.) Pregame is defined as the period of time up to the point where all roles are drafted and the thread is locked (before Day 1).
2.) During the Pregame, players will be randomly ordered and listed. In the provided order, each player may draft the name of the Riverworld Resident they wish to play by posting in the thread. This continues until all players have selected a role.
3.) Players may not draft their role until all previous players on the list has drafted theirs. Each player will have 12 hours to draft their Resident. If the player does not draft their Resident in the allotted time, the following player may “jump the queue” and choose their Resident. The player that got “jumped” can draft at any time.
4.) Once all players have drafted their Residents, I will send out alignment PMs. No player will be aware of their alignment prior to having drafted a Resident. At this point, the pregame will be over and the game with start with Day 1.

Game Rules:


1.) I am human, if you disagree or feel I have screwed something up, please PM me.
2.) Do Not Quote PMs. Paraphrasing is fine, if you are uncertain what is acceptable, please PM me. Violators will be modkilled at my discretion.
3.) Votes (and unvotes) must be in bold. Example:
Vote: curiouskarmadog.

4.) Day lasts until one of the following happens: a player has a majority of votes, no lynch has a majority of votes, or the deadline comes. Days have an automatic three week deadline. This is mostly not revocable (I might consider an extension to find a replacement). Please consider the deadline as a limit, not the target. Nights last will last about 72 hours.
5.) Majority = lynch. 50% or less = no lynch.
6.) Don’t use code or tiny text to hide posts, don’t talk outside of the thread about this game, don’t reference other ongoing games, don’t edit or delete posts, and don’t post after you are dead (not even a "bah" post). If you think you are about to do something that violates theses rules, PM me. Violators will be modkilled at my discretion.
7.) When the game starts I will be using

Alignment Rules


1.) If you are mafia and submit a kill, you can not use your ability in the same night. Unless you have been motivated.
2.) The SK can use his ability AND submit a kill in the same night.
3.) If one Mafioso or Serial Killer and one town-aligned player are the last two players alive, the Mafioso/Serial Killer wins. If one Mafioso and Serial Killer are the last two players remaining, everyone dies and no one wins.
3.5) If the final two players are a mafioso (or SK) and a townie with a killing role, it would be a double loss (both would kill each other that night). If the final two players are a posioned mafioso (or SK) and a townie, it is a double loss (scum dies by posion and townie dies by scum).
4.) If investigated, the SK will result in an "innocent".


Town wins, when all threatening forces are eliminated.

Mafia wins, when no other alignment can win.

SK wins, when he is the last one standing.

Townie
You are a townie. You have developed a name for yourself and the camp respects and looks up to you. You have developed relationships within the camp and have begun to feel like these people of Homestead are like a family. Though close to those of Homestead, your need to explore Riverworld and find answers to it’s mysteries are pulling you away. However, there are others that are threatening the freedom and lives of Homestead’s residents. You can not leave, until those forces are eliminated.

You win when all forces that oppose Homestead are vanquished.
Mafia
When you look at Riverworld, you see a yet to be developed vulnerable place that is ripe for the taking. But first you need to settle matters inside your own camp. There are several townies preaching ideas of democracy and equal say. This simply will not do and will ultimately hurt your plans for conquest. Once this group is taken care, the other weak minded fools in the camp will fall under your leadership. From there, you may begin your plans.

You are part of the Homestead Mafia, with X and Y. Each night one of your group may submit a kill (by PM). If a member submits a kill he may not use his ability (unless motivated).

You win when no other factions have a possibility of winning.
SK
You are a sick bastard. Riverworld is not the paradise you were promised and these ignorant self righteous fools are once again trying to put chains around your neck with rules, governments, and responsibilities. No one will ever control you again. You are free to do whatever your heart desires...and right now, your heart desires to kill.

, from various raw ingredients around the area and in the river you have developed three basic contraptions. At night, you may give one of your contraptions to someone to give them either a 1 shot Doc, 1 shot Cop, or 1 shot NK immune. They can use it the night they get it. You may chose which of the contraptions to give away, but you can only give away one of each.

Having no way to release his pent up anxiety, stress, insecurity, and sexual frustration, Yamada snapped one day. Bringing a small pistol to a karaoke bar that he frequented he shot and killed 3 people before the police were able to put him down. Yamada died after being shot 11 times.

, what he lacks in useable skills, he makes up with pure rage and determination. At night, if you so chose, you can kill one person of your choice. In the process ending your life.

(NabakovNabakov), 2559-2677, not of this earth. Beezh traveled to Earth to document certain plant life and to conduct environmental experiments in secrecy. Beezh’s race had secretly observed Humans for thousands of years and had written off their existence as insignificant. However, Beezh’s visit to earth was untimely as he died in a nuclear blast that destroyed most of the Earth and it’s population.

, Once during this game, you may target any dead player. You absorb their ability and can use it for the rest of the game.

(armlx), 1554-1622, Brazil. Belonging to a tribe that practiced cannibalism as a means of survival, but it also held a spiritual meaning as well. Ge’s tribe believed that not only consuming flesh was a duty to honor the former living, but also the consumption of the body gave the eater more health and power. Ge died of natural causes.

, Being a hunter, you have the ability to track and kill your victim. Every night, you may target one person and use one of the following abilities: 1.) (Vig), you may kill your target. 2.)(Posion), You may poison your target, the person lives the following day though is sickened and dies the following night. 3.) (Track), by tracking a player, you may see who they target that night….once you use an ability you may not use it again.

, You have the ability to track the movements of your enemy. Each night submit the name of the target. You are informed who your target targets.

Role Notes:


When a Resident is chosen they will be highlighted with

Kills have there own death scenes. Mafia uses blunt trama, SK slit throats, Vigs uses posion and spears, Bomb uses drowning

If the Role Absorber is targetted by a one shot ability, they get the one shot ability not all of the one shot abilities. Example. the Inventor targets the Role Absorber with a one shot NK Immune. In turn, The Role Absorber not only as the ability to be NK Immuned for one night, but now has the ability to give someone else a one shot NK ability. Note the Absorber does not have the other one shot abilities that the Inventor offers.

NK Immune does work as an antidote for posion. If the NK immune is used during the same night a poisoned victim is going to die, the effects of the poison are negated.

Future Man works for both lynches and NK. If the Doc protects Future Man in the same night there is an attempt on his life (ie a kill), the Doc will protect him like normal. Example: Future Man has two lives going into Night 2, Night 2 the mafia targets him for the kill. If the Doc also protects him Night 2, Day 3, Future Man will still have 2 lives.

The hider does not die if he hides behind mafia or the SK (unless they die).

If Future man does not die (but loses a life) the hider is OK, if the hider hides behind future man, and future man dies, than so does the hider.

speaking of the set up, I have made one change (doesnt matter since the SK has not been randomly selected yet). To give the SK a chance to win, he can now submit a kill and use his ability in the same night.

Yes, if the hider hides he can not be seen by watching or tracking (if the hider was the target of those abilities). If he hider's target is watched, the hider will be seen.

Is this even the case if the last townie has a killing role, like the Bomb. Or if the last scum has been poisoned so he will die whilst performing the NK?

ack, time to amend some rules (shafted where were you when I needed help crafting this game?)

if the last townie (in your scenario) has a killing role (like a bomb or vig) the game is a double loss (I dont believe in ties), for they will kill each other that night.

the same goes for your scenario where the last scum is posioned, double loss (scum dies of posion, townie dies by scum).

yes, if the inventor passes you a one shot ability, you can use that along with your other ability.

IF the inventor targets the hiding hider, the hider does not get the one shot gift. HOWEVER, the one shot gift is not used up, because the inventor never found the hider to give him the gift. On the more confusing flip side, if the JoaT targets the hiding hider, it does not hit the hider, but the one shot ability IS used up (I envision the two different roles with different mechanics).

and before you ask, if the Jailkeeper targets either the JoaT or the Inventor, their one shot abilities or gifts are not used up in this game(because they are considered thrown in jail before they are able to get their ability off).

If the bomb targets someone that does not die, the bomb does not die...if the bomb target Future Man and successfully removes his first life, the bomb DOES die, and Future Man's loses one life.

Also updating the alignment rules, the SK can not be investigated by the cop gift, meaning an investigation would result in an "innocent".

The morning dawns at it usually does here in this new world, with beautiful orange and reddish radiance which reflects off of the massive river flowing by Homestead (whose population has grown close to 500 stretching over several miles). As the sun illuminates the camp, screams of horror, shock, and urgency are heard through out it. In the night, many of the Homestead’s residents were brutally attacked and bludgeoned to death (with an exception of one bloke found on the shore whose throat had been jaggedly cut ear to ear.) Many in Homestead believe that the attack was executed by the nearby camp of Riverview and some of the evidence on site could suggest such an attack. It is common knowledge that the Riverview residents desire Homestead’s location near the forest and many squabbles have begun over what land belongs to who as people try to harvest it’s lumber. Many scream vengeance and there has been talk about forming a raiding party to deal with Riverview once and for all. Besides, there have been rumors circulating that a iron deposit has been discovered in Riverview and a mining party experienced in extracting the mineral has been formed. That ore would greatly help advance Homestead. Being respected in Homestead, you plead with it’s residents to not jump to conclusions. You promise them you will get to the bottom of what is going on.

As you investigate it appears to be a coordinated attack (versus an attack on random targets) on certian members of the community. Those attacked have been outspoken in regards to their views on the organization of the camp and how a future governing body that should represent all is needed to for security. You believe that those who lost their lives must have known and trusted their attackers to have befallen such a fate without a commotion. This disturbing discovery could only mean that the perpetrators of this gruesome attack came from inside of Homestead.

Your plans to leave Homestead are now on hold. You can not leave until those responsible for this attack are brought to justice and some semblance of order and security is restored.

It is Now Day 1, deadline will be in 4 weeks (August 6th, 8:00 PM EST). I am not a fan of deadline extensions, so dont expect them. Remember, I will prod if someone has not posted in 72 hours. 3 prods will result in a replacement. I find these strict rules will keep the game active and moving.

The day crawled on dreadfully slow (almost like it took weeks). The leaders of Homestead questioned each other and began investigating who perpetrated the horrid murders the night before. The town waited anxiously as the investigation dragged on. Finally after much thought and deliberation it was decided that the inventor of the fountain pen, Petrache Poenaru (Pug89), was one of those responsible for the grisly murders. Petrache being a thin and weakly man did not put up much of a fight as you put the noose around his next. His last words were “Homestead my love, we could have been powerful. Don’t be blinded by the pacifistic nature of these fools (gesturing to you), to live and survive in this new world, you must conquer or be conquered.” With that, Petrache leaps from the MM taking his own life.

You awake in the morning and all seems to be quiet. You meet at the MM and immediately you note that D67.3B (Alabaska J) looks pale and slightly sickly. Before questions can be asked and fingers pointed, someone in the Homestead screams bloody murder. Rushing to the pleas of help you realize you are at the makeshift camp of Jonathan Wilde (twomz). His throat was jaggedly cut to the point of almost decapitation. The scene is brutal and bloody. Looking through his camp for clues you discover some belongings of those who were murdered the night before. The grim realization sets in. Apparently Jonathan did not give up his villainous ways given this second chance at life.

You and most of the town are confident and sure, for you have discovered and eliminated two of those among you that have been plotting and planning to use Homestead for their own gains. Today, you begin the grim task of once again of sacrificing one of your own to defeat the threat. Plans are hatched that the town feels are fool proof. Now, eyes fall upon the outcast of the group. Beezh, who is not human, is quiet and reserved as the day groans on. He seems distracted, lost in his own thoughts, and does not appear to be helping scheme or plan anything. Together, you blindside Beezh, expecting a fight. Strangely, he does not fight and appears to be apathetic, almost like he knew it was his time. Perhaps maybe he was just lonely longing for those of his own kind. As you slipped the noose around his neck, he whispers, “I am sorry, I wasn’t even supposed to be here...where ever here is.” This death is quick and anti-climatic. Searching his person, you discover a jagged knife made from bone and sharpened rock, decorated with strange runes that must be of his language. The jagged blade of the knife exactly matches those on the necks of some of the dead.

You awake being immediately thankful that you did indeed wake. It is still early yet and you are anxious to discover the results of the “carefully” crafted plan. Dismay creeps into your emotion as you come upon an apparent bloodbath. First you see the cooling corpse of Ge’Tck. Taking a fatal blow to the head, the resident cannibal died in pursuit of who he thought was the last to threaten your precious home.

10 feet from Ge’Teck, you see the body of Claire, through her chest sticks the point of Ge’tck’s spear. The look of horror and surprise is missing from her face almost like she had suspected this result.

Questions fill your thoughts. Why did Ge’tck kill Claire? You then notice that the protruding end of the spear coming out of Claire’s chest is not congruent with the cannibal’s last death throw. Looking under Claire (who apparently was a big woman hider) was the true target of Ge’tck’s rage. There the writer of 20th century horror, Stephen King’s body tells his final tale.

The threat to Homestead is no more. The rest of the town is at ease as their leaders explain that for now, they can live without fear of conquest from within. The bodies of Claire and Ge’tck burned and their ashes are ceremonially scattered into the River. Their sacrifice will be remembered for years to come. New leaders are assigned to guide the camp and our Heroes prepare for their next adventure. To explore and possibly uncover the mysteries of Riverworld.

I dont know if the town played well, got lucky, or if the scum just played horridly. I was disappointed with Pug89, TheHermit, and NabNab's lurking and probably lead to their demise. TSPN, didnt have much of shot, but I appreciate the effort. THANKS TO ALL WHO REPLACED INTO THE GAME, without people like you mafia would be a sad place. The "plan" was a good one Day 2. This was the first Smalltown game I saw the town win..good show.
