Hmmm. Has this already been looked into or do I still need to do something?

You're now whitelisted on the Modded Feed the Beast Server, but you'll need the launcher.
ISO Maruchan and look through his posts for the link, if somebody doesn't post another one or if it isn't in the OP.

Well there's FML, but then there's 34 other Mods you need as well, and they all need to be installed perfectly (with the right versions, etc.) so you really NEED to go through Maruchan's posts to find the Feed the Beast Launcher. I'll even do it for you if you're too lazy or something... :shifty:

And yeah, your chances of setting the mods up right without the FTB launcher are close to zero. (edit: and the mod count is actually more like 61 iirc)

I counted from the default list in the Mindcrack Modpack, which I happened to have open at the time...

HAH No Klaz, you may not have a Nether Star for anything other than your Wand of the Thaumaturge. I believe I expressed this in the original post where I offered this deal...lemme guess davroe: both you and Klaz helped the other complete your Thaumonomicons... I realize I should've made it more of a competition. But aw well, lesson learned.

PM me screenshots of the 5 secret Discoveries and I'll give you the Wands the next time I'm online.

Hrmph. Do what Klaz said first, I'm still looking over it but should work exactly like he says. If not, the config file method dav recommended should indeed fix it - but only do that if the aura.dat deletion fails to fix or at least reset the problem.

Badly worded: basically, doing Klaz's first should be cleaner then doing dav's method, but if Klaz's method fucks up the Aura even more or makes it otherwise "unfixable", dav's method should be able to reset it.

...Maru...I would've really loved it if you didn't blow up the things I build, even if I do move away from them.
It should definitely be my choice whether to blow my old house to bits or not, and as it happened there were still items in there I wanted to keep.

There are only entities loaded for the Quarries briefly, while in the pipes between the Quarry block and the chests they hopefully deposit the items into. The chunks are what're probably causing problems. Please do not use the RailCraft "World Anchors" to load chunks - use the ChickenCore "Chunk Loaders" to do it. They're significantly expensive that it should keep the use down to necessary things, and they are better chunk loaders in every way.

Not to mention that they look cooler, don't require Ender Pearls to power them, and can be adjusted to load different sized chunk chunks. (My maximum is ~30 per Chunk Loader per person/group it benefits.)

I've seen all I need to see after about 10 seconds researching.

I am willing and able to provide every incentive to people on the Modded server provided they agree to change over to the new modpack - I will even grab our world seed and make sure Maru uses it to generate the new world, then tp people to where they have their builds now, if they like.

@Maru: since they're not on MafiaScum but still play more often than some of the Scummers do, you should get in contact with Blake and Byron (jointed98) to let them know about the switch.

I'm all for switching whenever, before or after EXBL 4.0.

Please let's figure out the Aura issue beforehand, make sure everything there is fixed. Also would recommend grabbing a copy of the whitelist - I can do that if you like.

The ChickenChunks Chunk Loaders are perfectly alright - the main reason I prefer them over the RailCraft World Anchors is because they are coded better and should reduce lag, as izak says, but they also:

- don't require Ender Pearls to "power" them
- have a much more costly crafting recipe, which should bring down their use
- have a clear chunk-loading size and limit for non-Op players
- look 10x cooler, with that little floating, spinning orb on top

@Maru: can we institute that old idea about a start-up pack, instead of just randomly spawning stuff in? Would this suggestion (if it included an Ultimate Solar Helm [which may be part of advanced Solars, IDK] and other stuff) be acceptable as an alternative to the hot-bar idea? Just testing waters here.

It does come down to the fact that this is a restart.
What "endgame items" are you talking about?

Hmmm...interesting...looking into Mystcraft now.
I'm seriously considering just going for the Modpack kit option, izak and I will talk about this. Maybe a QT is in order?

Also, Maru, spoil that gargantuan img up thar. Did you make that? I'm impressed.

I disagree entirely. In my opinion, we're playing what Minecraft could be in 20 years if Mojang started catering to some very obscure ideas. It's just that we have the opportunity to do this now because of the amazing Modding community built around and encouraged by this incredible gaming environment.

It's just that Minecraft has so much potential. You are likely not yet disillusioned with the vanilla game, which is totally fine, but I've been playing for 2+ years. The mods add whole new content and sets of rules, and just when you've "completed" one, there are a hundred more to try. And then you go back to the vanilla version to enjoy its simplicity, and the cycle begins again.

Another equally wonderful way of putting it.

I think he thinks I meant we should use a private Modpack. It would work, I think, but that's not what I was suggesting. Haha I only meant we should make a little kit of items from the new Mods, like we were planning on doing. I'll PM you about it as soon as I'm finished some other stuff. We'll work it out.

Most of the Mods in question have public disclaimers explicitly ALLOWING private modpack use, so I don't see how it could be that hard at all. Regardless - I'm not suggesting that. DW20 sounds perfectly perfect to me. NO GREGTECH <3

I'm PMing izak about the startup kit thingy now. We'll discuss it and get back to all with what hopefully will be something that can accomodate the needs of everyone; those who want a completely clean slate and those who would like to not be dirt (or Stone?) poor for the first few hours of their Direwolf20 experience.

Don't worry, spawn will be nice and prettiful once we get our new Modpack. Twilight Portal, Nether Portal, anything people want to help build as soon as we're up.
I'd like to have a little community there too, rather than just all scattering to the four winds...a Twilight-side to the community wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

Oh, by the way, I think one of our first "events" on the Modded Server should be a literal "headhunt".
Everyone who /in's gets a Vorpal 5 Diamond Sword - otherwise unenchanted. Then we run around killing eachother.

No stealing heads - everyone gets a stack of Charms of Keeping 3 just for the event.
First one to get everyone else's heads wins their own head + something awesome; we all make off with some cool decorations.

No, the most fair way would be to all start out with the same things - either a predetermined kit of items (which may or may not be awesomeSolarHelmsandshit) or nothing. EDIT: But I guess you mean leave the decision about what to do with the players - that I agree with.

I'm really REALLY not trying to be argumentative, but you're saying that it's fair for people who're not of equal wealth in the first place to choose which of their items they take with them, when the very inequality in their wealth makes it extremely unfair. But then again, it all goes back to how much time people put into their experience, etc. so you could argue either way. Point is it's all subjective.

PMins izak and Maru right now about possible kits of items that should hopefully resolve all issues.
Can we put this to rest at least until we come back with our ideas? For all we know you might all love what we come up with and this whole discussion was pointless.

Right, but the idea would (hopefully) be that the kit we have in mind would replace any random OMGSUPERPOWER items people would want to bring over otherwise. Do you just want to post what we have so far, WRT kit items and let them decide? It was my understanding it still was an issue: kit or hotbar.

In post 10829, Chevre wrote:What I mean is like, if everyone can create their dream environment, why worry about where the spawn necessarily is?

Also, because people can't just up and create their dream environment right from the start, so a nice place for people to live in the OW would be a must. Mystcraft takes a lot of experimenting before you can actually create your ideal Age. Not to mention a Cow/Chicken/Sugarcane Farm is pretty necessary to get involved in that Mod. But my point still stands: people WILL NOT be able to create 5,000,000 or even 50 Ages apiece. That'd be ridiculous. We'll probably have to continuously clean out the excess Dimensions as it is - but there obviously needs to be some limit on it regardless of what else we do.

P-Edit: both systems work fine, but we still need an overall limit per person.

It'd be optional, of course. The items we chose were meant to give people a little push in some of the more interesting Mods, but nothing that could be considered OP by any standards. But definitely, we'd like some input. Our idea was "starter kit for Vanilla Server = Vanilla stuff, starter kit for Modded Server = Modded Stuff".

P-Edit: Sortof what izak said. It's still a matter of something that you gathered resources to be able to do/make. What's the difference?

...and I should think you haven't completely finished it, so a Cheat Sheet is out of the question.
Also, the last time I actually tried to set that up so Maru could use a full Thaumo, it didn't work. It might be an SMP bug, but either way I'm all for redoing the Discoveries.

I'll be completely honest and say that I got all of my Thaumcraft Discoveries legitimately and I will do so again - the only things I spawned in were MASSIVE amounts of Warded Stone and a Nether Star. I believe Rob's issue with eliminating the early-game applies to all things early game, and Thaumcraft Discoveries are no different then the Machines you need to make to make the Materials you need to get to make the endgame stuff.

It's all a process, it's all work. There's no difference.

You guys have several options: hotbar (2-3 items), starter kit, or fresh.
There doesn't (IMO) need to be this much rehashing of the issue.

^ That is pretty much exactly my feelings. Others should post something like that so we can either A) figure out a compromise that makes everyone at least semi-satisfied, or B) reach a solution that will upset the least amount of people to the point of them feeling "extremely unlikely to play on the new server".

I have completely finished my thaumonomicon as far as it will allow me to go in the current version. As far as I know, there are no other discoveries to be found. The cheat sheet doesn't even show the Combat Golem or the visor. Nor does it show the wand of Frost.

That's the thing though: TC 3 is being updated with the switch to DW20, at least AFAIK.

TC 3, they are rather a staple of the Mod, IMO.
I don't
really
think people will go for a "starter kit" with that much material in it, though.

He likes 2 lumps or 2 teaspoons, with light cream or 2% Milk - if it's not too much trouble.
Or just tea, Earl Grey, hot. That's always a good alternative.

1. Open your FTB Launcher
2. Select Direwolf20's Modpack from the left-hand side
3. DO NOT CLICK LAUNCH OR DOUBLE-CLICK OR ANYTHING, IT DEFAULTS TO V4
4. Look in the upper-right, where it says "Recommended" <- this is the Modpack Version
5. It's a drop-down menu, go ahead and drop it down
6. Select "5"
7. Let it do it's thing
8. Profit

Yeah, also, Klaz/dav - see that SupaMagicAwesomeFuckYeah Hoe in my inventory?
It can autogrow Silverwood Saplings (and anything else) like Bone Meal 2.0.

Oh, and the fancy Axe chops trees from the top down no matter where you click on the tree.

Did not get the Rod of Nine Hells to work. What's it do and how can I get? The sword hits multiple enemies on left click and when parrying (holding right click) it creates a wind vortex that blows all enemies and projectiles away from you. The Pick is meh, the Hoe is pretty cool IMO (and has ridiculous durability), the Axe is a lumberjack's dream.

Also, proposal: On the new FTB server, OPs do not give out any items as part of a contest/game/whatever or anything like that. I think it majorly devalued the gaming experience last go around - people got items that they didn't earn by playing through the game (myself included).

EDIT: Of course you could give out items as a contest/game/whatever if you actually made them yourself and wanted to do it out of the goodness of your heart - just no spawning in shit.

To be fair, they were mostly items that were unobtainable because of GregTech, which won't be a problem in the new server.

Also to be fair, the OP's do/did this on the Vanilla Server for the mazes, etc. so what exactly is the difference?
Is it that the items we handed out were useful in some way rather than decorative unobtainables like Cracked Stone and Cobwebs?

Also, upon investigation of the pastie you see above, you'll find that instead of a Notebook I've put in 9 Sheets of Paper. Seemed simpler than running the risk that they accidentally get a full Notebook through some NEI/Creative/Mod loophole or something. People who want the Notebook can just craft their own easily, using the PCT and the Paper.

Headhunting will be done in a Mystcraft world I will start setting up as soon as we're done with Spawn. Blake and TBone are working on securing a nearby village, which may become Direwolf Spawntown, and I'm working on Redstone Magic and the Starter Kits, as well as starting a fancy Spawn Tower.

No, I left it so you could get the symbols.
I know from SSP experience that the Skylands Terrain Generation Symbol is bugged.

In post 11090, izakthegoomba wrote:Would anyone have a problem if I re-did the spawning system? It's currently a bit inconvenient if you die without a bed set. I'd basically be compacting the system a bit, making the starter kits less abusable, and dumping players who die without a bed set directly to a rules board in/next to town.

Also making the initial teleport system fire several times could be useful to deal with situations where someone gets trapped on the spawn pad.

You've no idea how long that whole thing took me...but I'll bow to reason and admit you should've been the one to do it in the first place, probably.

Yeah you can do that, but the point is we don't want to have more than 2 Ages per player being loaded on the same login. I'm not going to start counting the times you all access Ages, but just use common sense and realize that you are in a whole nother dimension by yourself and all it's doing is dragging Server Memory/RAM and adding lag. Then realize that you're probably not the only one in your own little dimension off somewhere...and realize there have to be sensible limits somewhere. This isn't a time when we want to "push things to their limits" or whatever.

In post 11187, Rhinox wrote:First thing I need to do (after I fix my computer) is seek out the right location. I'm gonna probably need an island thats at least 75x75 surrounded by at least 1000x1000 of ocean. Reason is that the roughly 1000x1000 area surrounding my maze in the overworld will need to be declared a Portal free zone because any portal created in that area will link to the maze nether portals on the way in. And hopefully, the nether at that area would be mostly solid netherrack and very little lava/open space. Would be ideal.

But anyways, that's the challenge you guys have to look forward to

I would very much be interested in helping you search, if you'd like a hand.
I'd suggest North or South, with VERY far South being the least relatively inhabited. (esp. since Clammy disappeared)

We could easily find you an island and some ocean, then ask Maru or izak to put up sign at the boundaries of whatever portal-free zone you need.

In conclusion: this sounds awesome.

...what about Ages 42-56 guys?
I believe 44 is Klaz's and 45 is mine.

So. Claims or deletes?

I'm tired of these "only-for-symbol" ages appearing and disappearing all the time.

Who resurrected Age 26? We deleted that one yesterday and if you don't like that you should've said something.

Crippling lag on the FTB Server tonight is being remedied by our amazing Corin.
He says he's moving the server back to it's original location, and that he'll figure out the issue properly tomorrow.

WHAT THIS MEANS: in a little while (or whenever Corin feels like it, really) Modded server will be back up at the IP "maru.corin.me"
WHAT ELSE THIS MEANS: don't fuck with rules, go in laggy Ages (or any Ages at all, how about that?), or do anything that might lag or crash the server.

Or I will hunt you down.

Anybody on the FTB Server who doesn't want an Age deleted needs to PM me AND Maruchan before midnight on Saturday with the Age numbers for those Ages that you want to keep. We'll be doing this every week so no new PM, no new Age being kept. Just so you all know, we have something like 75 Ages in there right now so we're not going to remember any of this if you don't send it to us, via PM.

Also remember it is a server rule that you cannot have more than 2 active Ages. We will not keep more than 2 per player.

Yeah people will just bring Link Books in - which I'm guessing might've been part of how he was going to try and manage it.

Wonder what that happened.

@Klaz: if you put it on the spreadsheet under your "Admin-Allotted Age 3" it will not be deleted.

Correction to my previous statement: while I see no valid point to this experiment other than to rouse the community, and while I do not agree with the methods, I acknowledge that no permanent damage was done. That being said, others are already expressing their "extreme displeasure" with this turn of events (which is, itself, an understatement of what I'm hearing from TBone/Rhinox/Klazam).

I'm saying this now and I will not change my mind when I say I DO NOT WISH TO BE INVOLVED IN THE FALLOUT FROM THIS EVENT.

I will be around to help out with whatever happens afterward, if anything, (backing up files, resetting homes via tpa, what-have-you) and I will help in any way I can on the actual server (and of course on the Modded Server), but I will not be involved in any discussion or drama that happpens in this thread as a result of this little experiment.

Just thought I'd say that. Bye now.

1) If you're talking about the Vanilla Server, there're no Mods whatsoever installed there. You don't even need Forge.

If you're talking about the Modded Server, we have the Feed the Beast Direwolf20 Modpack installed on the Modded Server, which is updated regularly (and automatically) via the Feed the Beast Launcher, which is downloadable here: http://feed-the-beast.com/#download_wrapper (look under "Download Client", if you're using a Macintosh, click "Download jar" and for Windows you can click "Download exe")

2) If you want to play on the Modded Server, then yes.
3) Yes. The previous Modpack we used was the Mindcrack Pack (also distributed via the FTB Launcher) which contain(ed)(s) several different Mods and is therefore incompatible with any saved games made while playing the Direwolf20 Modpack. And vice versa for Direwolf20's compatibility with Mindcrack saves.
4) Yes. Just switch to your normal Minecraft install rather than using the FTB Launcher - although you CAN, however, login to the Vanilla Server using the FTB Launcher and the Modpacked installation, when you go on the Vanilla server, it'll obviously not use any of the Mods except for anything not related to game content. (e.g. the Rei's Minimap Mod still works)

In post 11568, Maruchan wrote:@chkflip as FTB installs a new minecraft directory it will not fuck with your current save games. all playing done on modded server is saved in a completely separate file, and uses a different launcher (the feed the beast launcher), so anything you do in MineCraft.exe stays separate from FeedTheBEast.exe
