In post 10872, Maestro wrote:...and I should think you haven't completely finished it, so a Cheat Sheet is out of the question.
Also, the last time I actually tried to set that up so Maru could use a full Thaumo, it didn't work. It might be an SMP bug, but either way I'm all for redoing the Discoveries.

I'll be completely honest and say that I got all of my Thaumcraft Discoveries legitimately and I will do so again - the only things I spawned in were MASSIVE amounts of Warded Stone and a Nether Star. I believe Rob's issue with eliminating the early-game applies to all things early game, and Thaumcraft Discoveries are no different then the Machines you need to make to make the Materials you need to get to make the endgame stuff.

It's all a process, it's all work. There's no difference.

You guys have several options: hotbar (2-3 items), starter kit, or fresh.
There doesn't (IMO) need to be this much rehashing of the issue.

I have completely finished my thaumonomicon as far as it will allow me to go in the current version. As far as I know, there are no other discoveries to be found. The cheat sheet doesn't even show the Combat Golem or the visor. Nor does it show the wand of Frost.
There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.

Here's my opinion as far as what's desirable goes.

1st: Starter kit with stone tools and food
2nd: Completely fresh
3rd: Hotbar of 2-3 items IF restrictions are in place to prevent any advanced items from being brought through (no jetpacks, no solar helmets, no quantam crap, etc. - nothing that would take you longer than 3 hours of playing from the complete start to reach, in my opinion)
4th: Starter kit with relatively advanced stuff from all mods
5th: Hotbar with no restrictions

If the 4th or 5th option happen, I'm extremely unlikely to play on the new server. I'll probably stick with the vanilla server or join a new one entirely.

^ That is pretty much exactly my feelings. Others should post something like that so we can either A) figure out a compromise that makes everyone at least semi-satisfied, or B) reach a solution that will upset the least amount of people to the point of them feeling "extremely unlikely to play on the new server".

That's the thing though: TC 3 is being updated with the switch to DW20, at least AFAIK.

Okay voting time!

A) Starter Kit with samples from all Mods
B) Start kit with some stone tools, food, maybe a few torches
C) Hotbar of 2 or 3 items from current world
D) Completely fresh

VOTE!

My preference is C/B and then D. No to A.

B) and I'll play the new one. A steel sword wouldn't be a bad idea for people that tend to always start at night (this guy).

had a long thing typed out then firefox went blah

basically:

start kit is happening no matter what, decide on the strength, very least is a bit of food some tools some torches and a bed. I'd also like a few thinks to help start off mods but this is just my opinion: empty mystcraft notebook (collects your symbols from ages you create, is 9 pieces of paper, virtually useless without three other more-advanced items in the mod) Whatever starts you off in Thaumcraft, Scoop For Bees (extrabees/forestry) and idk any of the other mods well enough to know what to offer to start you off in them.

then also decide if we are keepign any old items or not.

thats the decisions, A: Starterstuff is happening, decide what non-vanilla goes in it and B: keep hotbar/3spaces of old stuff, or start afresh

This looks fair to me. Input on if there is anything YOU think I am missing/you think should be removed. (the goggles I added due to M's previous insistence that everyone needs them)

Full Leather Armor Set, Bow/Arrows, Sword, Iron Tools, Map, Compass, Food, Torches, Chest, Crafting Table, Stove, Bed, Boat (in case someone wants to go far-off and runs into an ocean) are all for Vanilla.

Wand of Apprentice and Goggles of Revealing for ThaumCraft.
TreeTap (w/ or w/o 1 rubber tree sapling?) and Cactus are for IC/BC, for their respective forms of item/power/liquid traveling (pipes/cables)
EMPTY Notebook is for MystCraft (it collects symbols from your Ages as you create them so you can customize ages with the resulting index of symbols. It requires another mod-item to work. A Writing Desk or something like that, you place the notebook and the Age Book in the desk together and the notebook transcribes your age's symbols.)

Hmm. What do you think about a starter kit which is more advanced than just stone tools and food, but still only vanilla stuff? Like, iron sword/tools, bow and some arrows, a decent amount of food, some torches, leather armor, etc.?

That way it skips the usual time spent getting started up and lets you get straight into the mods, but doesn't give too much of a head start in any particular mod?

TC 3, they are rather a staple of the Mod, IMO.
I don't
really
think people will go for a "starter kit" with that much material in it, though.

I updated my image gallery.

I added a library and a tree farm/sawmill to my town.
I also dug a 4 km long tunnel from my new location to my old mansion.

Take out the map because it's not entirely necessary with Rei's Minimap. Get rid of the Goggles of Revealing because they're an item that has to be researched in TC3. Possibly add in their place a writing table and like 5 sheets of paper so people can get right into researching and then making the goggles for themselves.

^ I would give my seal of approval to that Starter Kit with the above changes.
