Also EE3 is pretty cool. Probablya bit overpowered but you kind of forgive it once you're actually using it.

It's just that Minecraft has so much potential. You are likely not yet disillusioned with the vanilla game, which is totally fine, but I've been playing for 2+ years. The mods add whole new content and sets of rules, and just when you've "completed" one, there are a hundred more to try. And then you go back to the vanilla version to enjoy its simplicity, and the cycle begins again.

I don't know. It seems to me that the more mods you add to the game, the less time you spend actually building stuff.

The vanilla server has so many awesome buildings (the mazes, izak's caves, spawn town, the many different castles)... I've yet to see what has been built of AWESOME in the modded server...

(Or maybe this is a reverse-psychology attempt at getting you guys to post more pictures )

True. But there's not much new in geometrical terms that you could build. Sure, there are all sorts of pretty new materials, but they don't change the shapes and such you can build. I guess the spectacle so far are the mechanisms that are possible due to mods like Computer Craft; the quarry turtle thingies, for example.

(though I suppose I would be making some more pretty creations with xychoridite if it wasn't so darn complex. Cobblestone has to be furnace'd to stone, then craft'd to stonebrick then workbench'd into the actual pretty blocks with which you can build. And if you want to build in a color that isn't red green blue black or white...oof

I'm seriously considering just going for the Modpack kit option, izak and I will talk about this. Maybe a QT is in order?

Well, I will challenge my own question, though.

I've been watching Etho's let's play series on an FTB server, and he is doing something really cool with the mods: He is using some mechanism (don't know the name) to build giant stone blocks in the sky, and then using the mining laser and jetpack to mold those stone blocks into floating islands. Then he is using some railcraft to make jumping trains to connect the islands.

So there are certainly things you can do. Now go out there and do it!

it is harder to make a private modpack through FTB than it is to make a modpack myself and just send it to you guys. Which as we've determined, runs into errors like not working on macs.

You have to go to every mod dev you want and get permissions from them, then you have to record the permissions somewhere freely accessible and send proof of permissions to the main FTB dev who then returns you with a code. Good luck getting any of the bigwig modders to even deign to reply to you with a no.

xycraft specifically disallows it as well as a few others. Trust me, from what I've read, the complaining of others in the process of building a custom pack, unless they simplify it, it'll be quite hard.

Oh, ok. I've been reading parts of the conversation and skipping others because I keep coming to the thread to see like 4 new pages of posts.

If we do an identical starting kit, then I propose Boots of Traveler, a Pocket Crafting Table, a fully fueled Electric Jetpack, and a diamond pickaxe. From there, you can gather everything else. I'd still vastly prefer starting fresh, though.

In fact, if i didn't feel the modded server had as strong a community-aspect to it as it does, likely from having more MSers than my previous ones have had, i would have already updated, and started afresh without warning.

Thats how I normally run my servers, i just make the decisions i feel like and go HERE YOU GO DEAL WITH IT OR GOAWAY. but I don't like doing that to you guys, which is why i have tried to make compromises with the most active players.

I'll take a gander and see if i think anything is too overpowerful, or decide if oyu're missing any godly things liek a quarry which i think everyone should start off with one of (lolkidding <3)

but p much its up to you and M, and i think the debate is at 2 way but with freshstart with starter kit OR take a hotbar's worth of your current amassed wealth with you.
