I'm unhappy. I would like to listen to a explanation from Maru to why and what he wanted to accomplish.

I was seeing how abandonded the vanilla server was. it took nearly a week for anyone to notice the main town was anything wrong, and I knew without a doubt there would be no lasting damage, I had backed up the world, and tested the commands to rollback from in game. Corin had told me the MS server was basically deserted and I didn't believe him.

Turns out it was.

Suppose I don't decide to stop by spawntown on my way to finding Mazetown Island? Suppose I go spend hours/days/longer there digging maze tunnels. How long were you gonna let me dig before you told me my work would be lost when the backups were loaded?

world wouldn't have been lost, there are commands in game to just roleback spawntown and nothing but spawntown, and I had tested commands previously, as well as tested to make sure they could roleback up to a month prior.

This is flawed, there's nobody around spawntown because most of us are playing FTB at the moment. If you'd done this "experiment" just before we started the new FTB server, I or someone else would have noticed within a day.

Also this is a completely different reason to what corin seems to think you did it for...

This spawned after Corin had jokingly told me he accidentally deleted all of the server files in the move for the vanilla server. i flipped and was like "ARE YOU SERIOUS WHATTHE FUDGEMONKEYS?!?!?!?!?" then I went "Hmm I wonder how long it would even take people to notice something had happened, due to how dead it had been for the past month anyways.

Wasn't trying to start old reset debate.

I will, but I doubt anything he says will change the fact that if I or anyone else turned spawntown into a crater we'd be banned without a second thought, regardless of whether it was a "social experiment" or not.

PEdit: well that's a different exchange to the one I was thinking of. Possibly you weren't on the server/IRC when Corin told the whole server about it.

anyways, M sent me a well thought out proposal letter that i skimmed cuz just woke up still half asleep and gotta run to school, but i read words like maetro op and being admin and stuffs, and I think izak & M make gud admin team

will continue to pay for, but they can run. (which is what I wanted in the first place with Claus)

Whoa, I'm not saying I want you to ban yourself, Maru. You're paying for the thing and even if it's community-run, that still counts for quite a lot IMO. I was just pointing out that it's pretty definitively uncool.

I don't think I can trust Maru as an admin anymore. What happens when he decides to do it without asking Corin for back-ups first? What happens we he decides to just pull a Chesskid cause he's pissed about something? Can't trust him to be mature about it, that's for sure.

This is the MS community server, you're just the most recent admin. We can easily transfer ownership to someone else if you can't handle it anymore.

I returned from a previous death point to find that strange creature had spawned in the pen I was standing in. It was made of cubes and look weird in general. But it wasn't attacking me, or chasing me or anything, so naturally I went up and tried to touch it. Unfortunately it was a golem, which after hitting me for half my health, RAISED A STORM OF BLOCKS FROM THE SURROUNDINGS (YES THAT INCLUDES MY HOUSE) and launched them at me, killing me. And then the other one is from a random rat that was like in my house or something. I don't know. Mo' Creatures is hard

I don't consider it fine by ay of my status, which is why I said I can be banned.

what I did was wrong.

I was doing it for my own info, and it hurt others and it shouldn't have happened.

Some measures have been taken (M now being the "owner" mask in-game and myself the default like everyone else, so essentially izak and M are now the owners of the server while I as a hosting company (Ms-hosting.org) merely sponsor the community by providing a server space.) and more can be taken if the owners/community deem them fair punishment

Banning is imho a fair punishment, I should still be permabanned from when I killed Chesskid without his permission, and was only unbanned because Claus felt that me saying we should both have stayed banned rather than just unbanning chesskid was foresight as to chesskid's griefing.

I should have been permabanned months ago, and it was rescinded (kindly) by our then-admin and owner, and I feel it would be fair punishment to have now.

I am no longer an admin on the vanilla server, and no longer have control panel access to it either. Corin runs his own backup system for us outside of our control to his own paid-for out of his pocket private dedicated servers (and has for months) I have already transferred ownership to M, and agree with you full heartedly, any further concerns? I did tell him he could have the space for free and he doesn't have to pay, but if dislikes that plan or he dislikes me being the company providing the space he has full access to all of the files he can move them to another company without my consent of knowledge, and I have nothing I can do about it.

@Klaz, as soon as you register on the billing site Corin said he will get all the servers linked to your billing account and set up to auto invoice you and then you can pay for this month and get the second server up. if you have already and i havent checked my paypal yet I apologize.

This age is epic. I will be making a public portal in a tower in the swamp somewhere for you all to fight withers in for tonight.

Its also a pretty nice mob farm too.

I'd love it if all wither combat took place there. The age is like a perfect setting for a boss fight.

I don't think killing someone without permission should be grounds for a permaban personally, at least in the first instance - maybe a tempban if the intent is malicious. Perhaps if we want this server to be truly community-driven rather than admin-driven, this is something we should discuss?

PS: M, if you or izak do need any guidance as to what is set up already/how to use any of it/how to do anything I did I would be more than willing to pass on the knowledge friend to friend as I have done for others in the past

The plugins are configured and there's an automatic backup system already in place, right?

I can confirm that this age is made of pure awesome. Witnessed two wither fights there, got unwittingly dragged into one of them, and they were much, much more fun than any fight we've had on the vanilla server.

Worth noting: because withers are so destructive I don't think it's even worth trying to make a portal back. Bring a linking book with you!
