I'm thinking it's Capricious who needs offing myself. Not pushing for a mass claim himseld anymore, but thinks it's not a bad idea and excuses Khelvaster's pushing of it.

I thought in his last post he was against it. Also, is it impossible for town to think massnameclaim is a good idea? And what do you think of me excusing Capricious's pushing of massnameclaim?

I think it's a datum that may come into play later in the game.

Is it substantially different from what Capricious did there?

Agreed - I hadn't read it as such, and claiming such now doesn't make sense except to say "BOO! Go away!". I'll also note that the last person I saw that suggested there were no vanilla townies were in a game was scum.

My comment boiled down to "why the heck did you do that and stop it." Now you went and crossed the rhetoric line and softclaimed. Softclaims are bad, bad, very bad. Now we have a problem. Do we left the softclaim slide? Or do we force a full claim out of you so you can't use other people as a guage for what roles are available?

Hmmm...hard choice. I thnk soft claims are a cardinal sin...but then again I'm also pretty much anti-claiming until its unavoidably necessary.

I was suspicious of Capricious at first, because of him pushing the massclaim. I may not have worded it explicitely until somewhere on page 8, but I was voting him before that.

I am of the firm opinion that a mass nameclaim is a good idea in most themed games. As a result, I consider everyone who didn't want a mass nameclaim anti-town.

And this, if you didn't get it, means that my opinion over the last bunch of pages is fairly void. I can't very well suspect half the town.

So is that your excuse not to suspect anyone at all? Surely you can find something to go on in the last 10 pages. I don't think you're really trying.


Thesp, I read back to look why you are so focused on seeing WhoMe? lynched and all I could find is that you find him wishy-washy on massclaiming and hypocritical in accusing Capricious of doing the same (post #147). These aren't really strong scum-tells in my opinion. Is there something I'm missing or is that really all you're going on?

I've never been in a game where there was a soft-claim on day 1 before. I understand why it's a bad thing, but I'm not sure forcing a full claim out of WhoMe? would be the best solution. I would have no objections to letting it slide. It might leave the town in doubt about him, but it would also leave the scum with some uncertainty when it comes to selecting their nightkill. I'd like to hear more people respond to this though.

Whome, what you did wrong is confirmed it. Unless you're scum yourself, you just basically painted a big "kill me" sign on your back for tonight. (Well...there are other factors involved here, but I'm not going to speculate because that might make things worse). You also softclaimed. "I'm an unspecified power role" which opens up a can of worms for WIFOM and counterclaiming in the future.

Now then, I urge you to say nothing more until there's a town concensus on what the best course of action in regards to your soft claim should be.

What I saw was that the very fact we had people standing up against mass claim is the reason that it was bad. Had we been more bold, we could've claimed and scum wouldn't be any wiser. But because people are protective of their names, it would stand to reason that they feel their name corresponds to a common role, though in practicality, scum would still have a hard time deducing their role.

Meanwhile, there is a chance we can be helped. If someone claims Wonder Woman, but someone else is really Wonder Woman, then we just got ourselves a scum in the bag. This is why massclaim=good.

This is a game to find scum, not to debate, and we can't base our suspicions on whether we agree with one another or not. roffman is just slipping by by siding with the majority on the issue.

I'm not going to argue the stupidity of massclaiming any longer because its obvious the two of you are willfully ignoring everything said against them.
