Jelly's Rules


Rules On what is Allowable:


[01] This is only a game, and I expect all players to remain somewhat civil (although I understand you are essentially a crazy, lynching mob). I will not accept excessive abuse upon freedom of speech: obscenity, profanity, libel, and fighting words will not be tolerated, and if you push it, the Head Jelly reserves the right to have you replaced. In other words, be respectful to all players, as well as myself.
[02] Do not talk outside of this thread, unless your role PM explicitly says you may do so, and even then, you are restricted to night-time for all out-of-thread conversation.
[03] Do not edit or delete your posts in any way, shape, or form. Once you have posted something, it is there for good, unless I find reason to alter or delete your post myself.
[04] Do not quote your role PMs in any way, shape, or form.
This also applies to night conversations.
You may, however, paraphrase your PM at any time, but if you go too far, the Mod reserves the right to either replace you or to modkill you should the situation warrant.
[05] Do not post in invisible text, excessively small text, or use [ color = black ] tags.

Technical Rules:


[01] Each day the town must decide on a lynch. Once a majority has been reached on a player, that player will be lynched, regardless of any subsequent unvoting.
[02] To vote for somebody, please use bold tags. For example,
Vote: PJ.

[03] If you wish to unvote, I would appreciate a formal bold
Unvote: PJ
, although this will not be required.
[04] If the game lags, I will place a deadline, which may or may not be retractable. I will
probably
not allow any day to go longer than one month.
[05] When a deadline has been placed, I will require only a majority of what would normally be a majority for a lynch (i.e. 7 players needs 4 to lynch, so I would require 3 to lynch in such a scenario). If this number is not reached, day will end in no-lynch, and the game will progress directly into night. If the town is in a Lynch-or-Lose situation, however, there will be no lowered requirements for lynching.
[06] If two or more players are tied for the most votes when a deadline hits, and they have garnered the required amount of votes to be lynched under a deadline, the player who reached that number of votes first shall be lynched.
[07] You may vote no-lynch if you wish. A majority voting for no-lynch will end the day, and the game will progress directly into night. To do this, simply
Vote: No-Lynch.

[08] Nights will last a maximum of 4 real-time days. If you have not sent me a night-choice by that time (should you have one), you will be treated as if you had chosen to target nobody.
[09] If you feel that you may not be able to post in-thread for a period of 48 hours or longer, please say so in-thread and send me a PM as warning. If I find it necessary, I will have you replaced, but I would much rather keep all players who sign up for any of my games.
[10] Any and all of these rules are subject to change at my discretion.

"Ahh! After 10,000 years I'm free! It's time to conquer Earth!"

Rita Repulsa laughs and twirls her moon staff, while her hair cones point towards the stars. She carefully peers through her Repulsascope down unto the watery planet below. "Wait... where are those accursed Power Rangers?" She turns around and finds that there appear to be some extra henchmen, villains, and monsters in her midst.

"So be it!" She points her magic wand at the lot of you. "Magic wand, make my monsters gr... wait no, that wouldn't be any fun." She strokes her chin, evilly. "Make these monsters indistinguishable!"

She steps on a platform which raises her safely to the top of the lair – coincidentally giving her an excellent vantage point, looking down at twelve bodies, all of which look and sound the same. "Give yourselves names, see what I care – but I'm ready to watch a show. How about you try killing each other? By the way, have any of you heard about this great game called Mafia?"

I will send out roles later tonight. The game will begin once all players have confirmed their roles by PM.

Yes. It will take four to lynch at the moment the deadline hits, and not before. If there is a tie, the first player to have reached the tied amount of votes (which can include four, five, and six) will be lynched. If nobody has at least four votes, the game will go directly into night with a No Lynch.

Mod: I'm aware that it is last minute, but would it be possible for the deadline to be moved back to get the replacement (for Blight) in here before night?
I will be gone in Philadelphia from November 8 - November 12. During that time, this game
will
be in night.

However, I will extend the deadline to November 7, 11:59 pm PST, which gives you an extra day. A further extension is not debatable.

The platform begins to descend, and Rita slowly twirls her staff in her hands while eying her own image in a hand-mirror bejeweled with bones. Her lips curl contemptuously as the dais stops directly in front of her prey. "Magic wand – make this creature shrink!"

I am also searching for a replacement for killerbob. Fun stuff. If either Blight or killerbob have night actions that cannot be submitted by a partner and I cannot replace them before the night is through, I will randomize their night choice (with "No action" being one of the options).

I also understand that many players have finals at this time of the year. As such, no deadlines will be placed for at least two weeks, and I will allow an extended period of inactivity so long as there has been prior assurance that those affected players are still around the site and willing to pick the game back up after finishing said finals.

As the station makes its final turns away from Sol, a ray of sunlight beams through one of the glass windows and pierces through Rita Repulsa's eyelid and into her retina. She gives a startled snort, and takes her head from her hand (leaving a very distinct imprint of her own hand on her cheek).

She groans, and – as per tradition – makes everybody aware that she has

a headache. She presses a hidden button and her platform descends unto the floor, where the rather limp figure of jmar is flopped on the ground.

"How pathetic! It's really no wonder I have headaches all the time, with a lair filled with bumbling dolts." She comes close to exterminating jmar on the spot, but decides on withholding that action. "Before I kill it, let's see what it can do. I could do for a little bit of entertainment.

Game Commentary


1.)
I was pleased to see the game get "interesting" on Day Four, when everybody mass-claimed which led to all sorts of confusion (which is something I was hoping for while making the set-up). I think both factions did an excellent job given that position, but things I would have played up were:

a.)
As scum
: With 7 alive going into night, the scum get little to no "advantage" by attempting a "no-kill gambit", because whatever single mislynch they may have received from doing so would be immediately balanced out by the fact that the town would receive an extra lynch as well (max 3 lynches for 7 alive as opposed to max 2 lynches for 6 alive). The chances were very high that there was something else to explain this anomaly. [Note: Of course, if the scum had knowledge that the Masons were in fact siblings, then a "no-kill" gambit would actually have been a fabulous thing to do!] Admittedly this was mentioned, but I think it should have been hammered.

b.)
As scum
: Cogito Ergo Scum would have been much better claiming to received his "1-Shot Doctor" on Night Two. This way, it would have been more plausible that the first invention was given to a dead player. Additionally, since one of Jenter Brolincani's "inventions" were shown to be ineffective, the same could have been true for one (or more) of originality's "inventions". It may also have been more appropriate to call the invention something other than an actual "Doctor", perhaps instead using a monster of some sort.

As Town
: It may have done some of the players good to actually review some of my past games before trying to metagame on what roles and word choices I may or may not consider to put in role PMs. I quite commonly hint at disastrous things possibly happening in role PMs (plenty of examples of this from Royal Family Mafia). UltimaAvalon's role-claim was actually extraordinarily accurate to any role PM I may have written.

2.)
I thought the mafia did a
perfect
job of trying to discredit the claimed Masons – I do not like to give Masons "free passes", so I made sure to give them inherent flak to put up with while claiming, as well as incentive to keep themselves hidden (lest they both die).

3.)
The two effects {Masons-Siblings die simultaneously} and {Mafia fails when "killing" Traitor} were obviously in the game to balance each other out. If the Masons played correctly, the town would never "No Lynch" (because the Masons would realize this would result in a loss of a lynch for the town); and the scum would also not be "punished" by giving the town an extra lynch if they happen to fail killing their Traitor. The more skilled the Mafia/Traitor/Masons, the higher likelihood of the number of lynches benefitting their own faction.

4.)
The two "Inventors" were obviously there to stir up some confusion. One was a Cop with limited shots (to work on nights prespecified), and the other was a limited Role-Blocker. They were both in a sense "random" without really being
random
.

5.)
I do
not
like strong Cops – as a compromise I gave the "Cop" in this game every reason to doubt their Sanity, and to give them a limited number of investigations (as opposed to investigations every night), with the off-chance possibility of running into a role-blocking or the 1-Shot Godfather ability.

6.)
I also do
not
like strong Docs – as a compromise I used the role of Martyr, and a "potential Doc" in the Finster if he manages to block correctly. This is becoming pretty standard in my games (but that doesn't mean you should always count on it...)

7.)
I spent
many
hours deciding between two types of Traitor.

a.)
The Traitor knows the identity of both "Masters", but can never become a part of the mafia group, and loses as soon as the mafia group is killed (even if the Traitor is still alive); or

-->
b.)
The Traitor does not know the identity of the "Masters", and under certain conditions may be able to join the mafia. If the mafia is lynched, the game continues except the Traitor does not receive a nightkill.

If anybody has thoughts on this, I would like to hear them.

As a player who has a great fondness for both Masons and night-conversation, I would like to see anything you find suitable for posting here. It's really one of the few places where you can really
watch
ideas being bounced around, and bouncing ideas with somebody with your interests in mind [or at least you think has your interests in mind, although that's not relevant for this game] just makes my day.
