Actually trying to figure out how long it might be until the PS4 actually reaches a point where there is actually stock at retailers, and I'm hearing it might not be until March of next year. Holy crap.

Once they send them, I'm not sure how much control they have over when they actually reach retailers. (Unless they're spending some serious coin on shipping which I doubt.)
I've assumed I won't be able to actually be able to get one until 2014.

We'd be getting either the Mario bundle or the Zelda one. (Probably the Mario bundle, especially as best buy is meant to be running a bundle on black Friday weekend that has Mario u and Luigi u along with Nintendoland and a Wii remote for $320.)
It also almost certainly dictates us getting another TV stand as the one we have is not going to accommodate the extra system.
In post 74, Zachrulez wrote:Does it even come close to being worth the money?
If you like Nintendo games (read: Super Mario 3D World, Smash, Pikmin 3[this isn't a system seller though], Zelda (Wind Waker or waiting for the Wii U title), Metroid and FE (since SMTxFE is somewhat still real?) then you should buy a Wii U.
Anything else? No, not really.
I haven't played any Nintendo exclusives since the N64, and out of Mario 64 and the two Zelda games, I only really enjoyed Orcarina of time. Would like to give Nintendo exclusives another chance, and buying the system would give us two generations of them. (The wii ones as well.) I'm just not sure if I'm going to be happy with what we get.
Mostly wondering if the newer Marios are more like Mario 3 on the NES and Super Mario World on the SNES and less like Mario 64. (I more or less outright dislike that game.)

One of the considerations is actually 2 player games. It's something you don't get much of outside of sports games on newer systems these days. You get online games that require you to buy a 2nd copy of the game and a 2nd copy of the console... argh.
There's a 75% sale on it like once every two months, just get the base game, decide if you like it and if you do buy the DLC next sale, it's what I did.
I think I've got all the DLC except the last one now and I've bought all of them in a separate sale.
I still haven't even played it yet...

It's the kind of game you have to play to believe. Youtube video's don't do it justice. It's looks so much worse in 60 FPS HD. And the controls-- dear god--- they are so difficult.
I think two hours is about how long it took me to trade it back in, if that.

Hey now I picked that ending and thought it was a pretty decent one until all the stuff that was tacked on at the very end. Was over the top and not needed. (With what this game has done in sales they're kidding themselves if they think it's getting a sequel.)

You mean with the caravans? It does make it easier to balance early on when you're struggling to build an economy. Helps me anyway as I have a tendency to expand way too fast.

Funny enough I put off buying the sports games cause I knew they were getting next gen releases and there was no point in having them on last gen if we were getting a next gen system.

Spoiler:
There's a somewhat important plot point that comes from listening to the various recordings of the doctors talking about the infection as you go to save Ellie from the surgery. Basically that she was not the only person who was immune and even after doing the same surgery to several other immune people they still had no cure. (I forget how many but I think it was dozens?) I mean when you're looking at it from the perspective of Joel selfishly saving Ellie and denying the world a cure, acquiring that little nugget of information is huge in gathering perspective on what Joel is doing. He's not denying the world a cure, he's saving Ellie from certain death from a procedure that hasn't gotten a cure and was unlikely to. (Insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.)
It's important perspective because it's the difference between denying a cure and saving Ellie from a senseless and fatal surgery.

that would be a good reason for saving her, but it's clearly not his motivation
Spoiler:
I present it mostly because a large number of people who beat the game end up believing that Joel denies the world a cure through his own selfish motivations. In different circumstances he might have, but given the context of what was going on in the world there was no cure and probably never was going to be.

Bonus points if you push me over the edge to get a Wii U; there are some games that I'd like to try but I'm very shy about that price tag.
Here I was thinking you'd have arguments in favor of us getting a 3DS/Wii U.
I do actually want the Wii U for the Nintendo exclusives but the price tag is keeping me from getting it as well.
As far as the 3DS, the situation on handhelds at the moment is basically me wanting a 3DS, and the other half wanting a Vita. (With me not having much of an argument in favor of the 3DS other than it's overwhelming popularity vs the Vita.)

Their production is about the same. Microsoft is sending more units to the US than Sony is though, but worldwide they're about equal.

I think the R&D they have spent on the Kinect is going to keep them from removing it from the system for some time. If the money that would be sunk on it wasn't an issue, it would have been removed from the system as a bundle already.

Anyone having trouble with the PS4 controller's analog stick? Been using one for less than 2 weeks and it's already showing signs of wear. It's ridiculous that these things should be wearing out this early when I've had controllers on the PS3 that have lasted years without any visible signs of wear in the analog sticks.
Mind you it's not actually cracked through yet and I read somewhere where a guy said that on his the crack basically wore away. (That would mean it might go away over time but I'm not sure that's actually GOOD.) The things do have a year warranty, but in the end I will probably end up putting my own plastic nubs on the things because it will drive me crazy otherwise.

So we have a Wii U now. Got the Mario bundle for it, and also Mario 3D world.
I actually like the game pad. It's neat to be able to play games on it when your other half is watching TV or playing on the PS4 or whatever.
I just need some suggestions for games aside from the Mario games we already have and the virtual console games I am eventually going to fill the system with...

Wind Waker HD is also good but it's not worth 60 dollars if you've played the GC Game. It's an upgrade but it's not significant enough to warrant a 60 dollar pricetag.
I think Wind Waker has actually dropped a little in price. (Or is simply on sale.) I haven't played it on GameCube, but the little bit I've played and what I've watched on you tube doesn't interest me at all.
It could be like Dragon Warrior 7 where it takes a little bit of time for the game to get interesting, but going through the intro of Wind Waker on the demo was just painful for me.
You could send him in, but apparently it's "selfish" to do so, and "the bad ending", which doesn't make any sense. It's smart. Nobody's getting hurt at all, but apparently, because the point of that whole stupid thing is "selflessness" you're supposed to "sacrifice yourself" unnecessarily.
Spoiler:
I didn't really pay much attention to whether it was the good or bad ending, what was important to me was that my the decision to send Fawkes meant no one had to die. If that's a bad ending, I don't get it.

I guess the couple of questions I would ask on that are whether you've had steam online the entire time you've played the game. I believe with some it's possible to play the game without having steam on at all, and I don't think it has any means to count the time unless you're actually on steam and online.
Given that the account is both mine and Sotty's 47% unplayed is very high. Been actively working to bring that number down, but I also notice that the list isn't entirely accurate as I'm seeing some games offhand that it's classified as not played that I know for a fact I have actually played.

Well when they have the big sales a lot of the games come from mega bundles that you buy all in one, so that at least explains the high percentage of never played games at some level.
I'm curious about the games. I had some interest in the maker but never pulled the trigger because of how much it cost. If the games that come with it are good, I could easily grab this and not feel bad if I happen to never actually use the maker itself.

So I've played a little bit of the wind waker HD having gotten it as a free download for buying mario kart, and what's one of the first things you run into when you start the game?
This.
I have no idea why Nintendo felt the need to include that detail with the kid. It's all I can think about when I think about that first island now.
Particularly at the beginning with that kid it's a real turn off. The game does have some potential and I do quite enjoy the core game play, it's just what you have to go through to reach that part. I also didn't care for the early game puzzle where you have to find the 4 kids. I basically used youtube to beat it because I couldn't find one of them and the other was in a tree and I couldn't figure out how to get him down.
In post 937, zoraster wrote:Got Enemy Within for $10. Considering Skyrim at the same price. I dont' think I'll like it, but for ten bucks, maybe worth a shot?\
Skyrim is a game that will almost most definitely get its own flash sale or daily sale, it did during the Winter Sale. Wait a couple days, it will drop to like 5 or 7 bucks. Also, I would get the legendary edition, since it has all of the dlcs.
This is the principle of steam sales. Wait for daily sales and flash sales for your games , if they haven't gone on sale by the end of the sale, then buy them on the second last day.
I don't really know why i'd bother with the legendary edition unless it makes the base game significantly more fun rather than offering EVEN MORE content, as if I'll play through the whole base game.
Maybe if Legendary edition drops to 10 or close to it?

Square's cloud save feature for the Final Fantasy games on the PC is actually neat. We lost a lot of our game saves when our old sandisk solid state drive decided it didn't like working correctly anymore, but my FF7 game where I just crossed the ocean from Junon survived it all due to the power of the cloud. I actually had 7 from the square store, but bought the steam version of 7 and 8 because square doesn't let you redownload the game from their own store for really dumb reasons. (And my surviving install file download got corrupted.) They were just over 4 dollars each so no big deal.

That is the most annoying way to die.
What's worse is when you see it, but the air is already thin enough to where you have to watch your crew die.
Or a hyperthreading capable dual core from what I'm reading... assuming I'm reading it correctly. Core 2 duo can only do 2 threads, and you need a processor that can do 4.

I mean that was literally the first one I found with an older duo core so there's probably others that are actually better for gaming, and you'd be surprised what people will buy and use to play games with to save money. Generally a CPU is less important than a graphics card as well. After a ram upgrade to 8gb and a relatively modest graphics card that prodesk could play quite a few games.

On another topic, the season pass for WWE2k15 includes 3 dlc packs, and then they are going to release 3 more that AREN'T included with the season pass. Are companies just deliberately getting more evil with this stuff? The cost for the DLC is almost enough to purchase the game itself twice over.

The approval system is really an unnecessary attempt to add realism/complexity to the game. Really what does it lead to? Forcing you to go through the game in a specific way to try to make everyone happy so that you can max their approval and not miss any of those juicy story points. Why exactly is that better than just having all the content accessible without having to go through such a ridiculous system? Sometimes simple is better.
