Rules
Real Time Mafia Particular Rules:
1. There are generally two measurements for a role: recharge time and duration. Recharge time is the minimum allowed time between first using a role and when it can be reused again. For roles that it makes sense, there will also be a duration time. For example, a doctor with a 2 day duration time will protect someone from kills for two days. The recharge time is measured from the START of the duration, not the end.
2. All lynches and actions are considered to be done instaneously. Obviously I can't be on all the time, so they will be posted as soon as possible. Things will be done in the order that I receive them by PM or in the case of lynches when majority is reached/7 days is up.
Please don't edit your PMs once sent
3. There will be little to no flavor. My goal is to get the actions out as soon as I'm able, and given the nature of the game, flavor would make things slower.
4. More specific information may be listed in your role PM.
5. If you try to use an ability but it fails for some reason (e.g. roleblocked, doc save), the recharge time is HALF of its normal time or 4 days, whichever is longer.
6. There will be at least three vanilla townies and possibly more. All roles are flavorless although obviously changes have to be made to fit the mechanic.
7. In the event I will be away for more than half a day, the game may be PAUSED.
8. The game will only be called if there is one theoretical outcome and it is obvious it will happen. I will be very conservative in calling a game.
9. Actions may not be "queued" before your action is active. In other words, your PM with an action must come after your power has fully recharged. After it has recharged, you may PM me with a time in the future you want to do your action. Once you have sent an action, it cannot be recalled.
10. Actions that are shown publicly (e.g. the result of a mafia or vigil kill) will be time stamped for when the PM was sent.
Lynching and voting.
1. The town may lynch every 7 days or later.
2. At the end of 7 days, the last player to receive a majority will be lynched.
3. There are no unvotes, but you may vote "no lynch." If a majority are voting for "no lynch" at the end of 7 days, no one is lynched, even if someone else previously had the majority. No one is lynched until someone has a majority.
General Rules:
1. Have fun.
2. Bold all votes. Unvotes of any kind will be ignored. Self-votes are ignored.
3.
Blue is my color. Don't use it
4. Normal jerkwad things are banned. You should know what they are, but an example would be using invisible text. Or quoting the role PM (yes, this includes talking about the role pm structure).
5. No quoting from mason or neighbor chat.
6. I reserve the right to do anything I want.
7. Times are in EST unless stated otherwise. As this game relies HEAVILY on timing, you should know exactly your relationship to the US Eastern time zone.
8. I am strict on activity. Those who don't post at least once a day without going on V/LA are at risk of being replaced without warning.
Roles Included:
1. Roles will be altered to fit the game, might be different from the norm, combined, etc. Roles will not have flavor.
2. All roles included will be at least based on or use the roles in this list.
A final thought:
Using your role as soon as it's available might not always be the best call. For example, if you're a doctor and you want to protect against a mafia kill, you might try and predict when the mafia kill is coming. As mafia, if you suspect the doctor is trying to predict when you're killing, you might try and outsmart them by waiting until their power is used up.

You may post as much as you want. Please confirm in here, and feel free to post anything else you want. I won't count votes until the game starts, but you can do it if you want.

I just want to highlight one thing. While I won't be doing anything for activity in the Pregame, once the game starts you will be expected to post at least once a day (counting the weekend as one day). I reserve the right to replace anyone who does not do so without warning. The concept has proven popular, so I do have some people waiting to replace in.
While once won't get you replaced, repeated lurking (active or otherwise) might. I do this because this game revolves pretty heavily around timing in a way that other games do not.
All this is to say: if you're going away for a while, post a V/LA warning.

From the PM I sent:
I won't start the game earlier than January 2nd. This game relies heavily on timing and is (hopefully) balanced on a pretty fine line. Therefore to mess with that might disadvantage a side and throw it off. Also, I know at least a couple of people in this game who have said they'd be on V/LA and it's not fair to punish them.

A Rule clarification:
An action that comes in during the middle of a duration does that action beginning at that point.
Take two examples:
Doctor: Duration 10 days
Roleblocker: Duration 5 days
Doctor protects X on Day 0. Roleblocker blocks Doc starting on Day 2.
Result: X is protected from Day 0-2, not protected from Days 2-7, then is protected again from Day 7-10.
In this case, the action did not FAIL, thus the recharge time will be the full recharge time and not the half or 4 days whichever comes first.
Another example:
Framer: Duration 5 Days
Tracker: Duration 5 Days
Framer frames X beginning Day 0. Tracker tracks Day 2.
Result: Framer frames X without being seen Day 0. On Day 2, Tracker tracks and sees that Framer is visiting X.
I hope that makes things clearer rather than more complicated. Any other questions, don't hesitate to direct to me.

Just a reminder, the game begins at midnight tonight. All roles will begin charging at this point and the town's lynch timer will start. All previously placed votes will not count, and all new votes will be counted.

The Game has started. All votes from here on out are counted. Please note I will be using a 24 hour clock (13:00 instead of 1:00pm) to make things more obvious. All times are in EST unless stated otherwise.

Rule Modification To Clarify Meaning:
9. Actions may not be "queued" before your action is active. In other words, your PM with an action must come after your power has fully recharged. After it has recharged, you may PM me with a time in the future you want to do your action. Once you have sent an action, it cannot be recalled.
Rule Highlight (no changes, just wanted to make sure everyone is aware):
8. I am strict on activity. Those who don't post at least once a day without going on V/LA are at risk of being replaced without warning.

don_johnson replaces Vaya due to her inactivity.
These opening real life days I'm being pretty strict about the activity requirement (a post a day), as you can see. Remember, just tell me you're going on V/LA if you'll be unable to post.

Flareonage replaces malpascp. Hopefully that'll be the last replacement I have to make as I'm confident in everyone else's ability to stay active here, and I think we've lost the inactives.
Remember, if you have to be away, let me know and I'll put you on V/LA. It's not a big deal.

farside22 replaces Bogre, who has gone nearly three days without posting or telling us he was V/LA. Thanks for your patience, and I think although replacements are annoying for everyone, that it will end in a more fun game for all involved.

but i'd like our replacement to divulge the QT.
It doesn't say it explicitly, but giving the QT away falls under "5. No quoting from mason or neighbor chat." Feel free to paraphrase anything that's said in the QT, but outright copy and pasting or giving the QT away is not allowed.

TonyMontana placed the 6th vote, which was the majority, on Snow Bunny. Unless a new majority is reached, Snow Bunny will be lynched at the next available lynch time.

Please note the Lynch Rules:
Snow reached a majority, which means that unless a new majority is reached, she will be lynched. If you wish to not lynch when the deadline is up, you will need to reach a majority for "No Lynch."

Noticed something. Is the timestamp when the kill was sent? We should check who was on at that time.
Timestamps are shown for public actions (e.g. a kill). After an action (such as a kill sent in) is active, a player may either kill immediately by PM, in which case the timestamp will be posted when the PM is sent. Alternatively, after an action is active, a player may "queue" it ahead of time for a certain time, in which case I will post the timestamp that that player indicated he wanted to kill at on the timestamp.
In any event, bigmc has the majority and will be lynched tonight unless someone else reaches a majority.

animorpherv1 the Town Redirector was killed
It is no longer possible for the town to win (before, technically ani could have redirected a kill onto a mafia member).
Therefore, your winners are:
farside22
, the role blocker (recharges every 10 days, has a duration of 2 days)
fishythefish
, the Mafia Bus Driver Neighbor (recharges every 14 days, has a duration of 2 days)
Juls
, the Mafia Tracker (recharges every 7 days, duration of 3 days)
Congratulations to the winners!
The town power roles still alive at the end of the game were as follows:
Manho the Tracker.
---
My thoughts:
This game wasn't optimal for a number of reasons.
1. While I think many started excited, there were a significant number of lurkers that had to be gotten rid of. Given the extremely time sensitive manner of the game, this threw off at least one day and possibly more. I knew this was a risk, but I thought it was avoidable. I may have been wrong.
2. The power roles may not have been adjusted correctly, which is hardly a surprise. There was only one time-sensitive result the entire game. I think the solution would have been to have recharge times quicker and adjust the durations down (even making them hours rather than days).
3. Even though my timing of 7 days for lynches and 10 days for mafia gave the town one extra lynch than they otherwise would have, I think this was tilted in favor of scum. It's tough to only have 7 days, especially in a game that isn't really active.
4. The server's technical troubles probably affected this game more than any other. Given that this game is SO dependent on timing and it was SO frustrating to post for a long time, it's hard to blame anyone for letting the game languish. I know my own played games have suffered.
So for those watching, I'm not sure this is an entirely dead concept... I think with work and the right people it could be viable. But I'm definitely not ready to call this a "good" design yet. Personally, I think this game might be most effective as a Marathon Day game.
So I want to thank each and every person who played for participating. It was a fun experiment, and it had some memorable moments (Fishy's JOAT role-claim was simply brilliant. If the game were better and it weren't such a slaughter in favor of mafia, I might nominate him for best role claim. I won't now, but I'd be happy to second anyone who does so).
So thanks, and I'm sorry that it didn't turn out to be as spectacular as many hoped. Still, I think many had fun playing, but I won't try and put words into people's mouths.
