Game Rules - Please Read carefully.


[00] THIS IS A GAME. Mafia is a game which involves lies and deceit and killing people at night. Still, be civil. Personal attacks and abusive posts may lead to replacement and/or modkilling.

[01] VOTING METHOD: Votes must be in bold. Example:
Vote: Cicero
. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted. Please be attentive and
Unvote
before casting a new vote. This is not required, but I’d appreciate it.

[02] LYNCH: Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, unvoting will no longer be possible. After the lynch, and before I lock the thread, players may still talk freely.

[03] NO LYNCH: You may also vote: no lynch. A majority of no lynch votes is necessary to end the day without a death.

[04] DEADLINE: This game has an automatic deadline of 3 weeks per game day. Deadlines extension may be requested to the mod, and they may be denied.

[05] DEADLINE LYNCH RULES: If no majority is reached before the deadline, No Lynch will occur. Night will begin.

[06] NIGHT CHOICES: Nights will have a 72 hour deadline. Players with night actions should PM me their night choices before this deadline is up. If you fail to send me your PM, your action will not take place.

[07] OUT OF THREAD COMMUNICATION: The game is not to be discussed outside the thread. Players who may talk at night must do so in the thread indicated in their role PMs.

[08] LURKING AND NOT POSTING: Players who have not posted in 72 hours will be officially prodded. Prodded players must respond in the thread. A player who does not respond in 24 hours risks replacement. Lurking as an strategy is not acceptable (see below, though).

[09] VACATION? LIMITED ACCESS? If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in this game thread - this will relax the prodding rules during your unexpected busy period. That said, be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.

[10] BAH POSTS ARE ALLOWED: Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. However, since I love Bah post you may absolutely make one "Bah" post. It should be short and should contain absolutely no game related opinion or information. Example: "Bah! Go Town!"

No, you don't need to understand how DF works to play this Mafia game. This game's flavor is based on DF, but other than that it is your run-of-the-mill mini theme.

The Fortress of Oslanvathez:

Hidden deep in the territory of Tekkud Savot, it was a bustling mining outpost founded just 4 years ago. Quickly, though, wealth in gems and ores were found, and waves upon waves of immigrants came to work in this new frontier.

Until disaster struck.

A large siege led by the goblins of Ozud Dukxong brought Oslanvathez to its knees. The military was obliterated, and most of the miners were killed on the spot. Still, their sacrifice was not in vain, for the goblin army, which also took some heavy losses, has finally left the fortress.

You are the last survivors of Oslanvathez - your goal is to evaluate what is left of the fortress, eliminate any remaining dangers, and start the reconstruction.

Strike the earth!!

The large farming crops were what kept the population of over 150 dwarves well fed and strong. However, the open air crops also provided a great dropping point for the goblin troops.

Dwarves are fickle creatures, and when pressed to the breaking point of their happiness, they will tantrum. A tantruming dwarf may attack people and animals, destroy buildings, or throw things. The dwarf will receive happy thoughts from doing this. Those acts are generally considered a crime.

Dwarves will tantrum if they are at the "very unhappy" level of happiness or worse.

Thief! Protect the hoard!


As the call echoed through the halls, the surviving dwarves of Oslanvathez rushed to the vaults in order to get the thief. "He is there, get him!" "I saw the knave scurrying that way!" "lock that door!"

After a few minutes of confusion, Cyberbob and Knight of Cydonia show up, holding a struggling CoheedCambria by the arms. The dwarves gather around him for a closer look:


- Another kobold thief! Right when we were under attack!
- I... I just... I didn't mean to...

CoCam feebly tried to defend himself, but he knew he was damned. The dwarves grabbed his legs, broke his arms, gouged his eyes out and eventually battered the small creature to death. In his hands, they found a single -xPig Tail Sockx-.

Taking joy in slaughter certainly made the dwarves happier, but it did not bring the fortress any closer to safety - afterall, much more dangerous things than a lowly kobold thief - who just wanted to get the hell out of that deathtrap - were still lurking in the darkness.

After killing the skulking kobold, Cyberbob returns to his aposents. It was night and he had a job to do...

Cyberbob Cancels Cage Large Animal: Job Item misplaced.


"What?" Thought Cyberbob, "That cow was right here when I left - where could it..."

* Thump * - A large, bloodied cow head lands by Cyberbob's feet. Behind it, a creature cloaked by shadows was staring at him. - Did you lose anything?

As Cyberbob reaches for the head, the creature rushes and stabs him with a sharp object in the chest, than disappears in the darkness. Cyberbob tries to run to one of the other dwarves for help, but he quickly falls unconscious from the pain...

Cyberbob, Animal Trainer, has bled to death


Upon waking up, the remaining dwarves found his corpse in the farm grounds. He was still holding his dear pet's head tightly. After spending a good hour looting Cyberbob's stock of pig sock tails, silk loinclothes and rope weed, they prepare to face whatever killed their comrade last day...

The highest point in the history of the dwarf fortress was when its miners found a vein of adamantine.

However, as they dug deeper into the vein, a scene of nightmares became true. A mysterious room, filled with all kind of torture apparatus, mutilated bodies and depraved engravings, was encased in that mineral vein.

Roffman tried to defend himself, but it was clear to him that they would never believe him. After Timeater and KoC started agreeing to the idea of lynching him, he decided to act first and fled towards the dark corridors.

Before the dwarves could even tell roffman that they hadn't decided yet, he disappeared. As they rush after him, they hear the once familiar sound bones being broken down by a war hammer, and a dwarf claiming for mercy.

*CLANK! HEL...CLANK!..ELPzgrlll... CLANK!*

They arrive just in time to see roffman, beaten down to a bloody pulp. Someone finished their job for them. However, among the remains, just poor quality, fat stained pig tail clothing could be found: It seems roffman was just a cook, just as he claimed.

You all sleep restlessly - the memories of the Hammerer haunts you, and no one quite understands why he killed roffman like that - it is not like there was any mandate around to be broken!

As the night ends, each of you decides that the best place to look for answers is iLord - afterall, he had been a source of stability during these hard times, and seemed to know what he was doing.

Unfortunately, you all find iLord - in many different parts of the fortress at the same time.

His left leg is found in one on the corridors, and a long, bloody trail leads to his right hand, third finger. Following the trail a little more you find his right left upper arm, still grasping a copper pick. The bloody trail ends in the former dinning room, where his body, cut and battered to death, could be found.

Those of you who could stomach the grim scene carry the body back to an open casket, and put it in an unfinished vein in the deep mines - he wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Even the best armed and trained dwarves were not a match to the demon hordes. The pit breaching decimated the military of Oslavanthez, and was a big factor to its fall to the Goblin Siege.

In a sick twist of destiny, now it was his blood to taint red the walls of Oslanvathez. For he was slain right there, in front of his beloved engravings.

With the death of the Hammerer, the few remaining dwarves thought they could sleep safer. However, in the morning, the corpse of RiceBallTail was a sad reminder that things were not over yet in Oslanvathez.

Sekinj and Andersonw looked at each other, afraid and confused. They have long been used to the terrors of the Nobles mandates, but they also knew of the savagery of the Goblins. Eventually, after hearing Pesco's claims that he lost his weapon to the kobold thief over and over, they decided to gang on Ramus.

"Damn you peasants! I knew I should have had your heads a long time ago!"

Ramus' body hadn't even started to rot, the dwarves headed to their rooms. Pesco, not having a room, headed to Sekinj's one.


Sekinj cancels Sleep: Interrupted by Goblin Warlord


"Wait! What are you doing here? Didn't you say that you had no nightkill?"
"Well... I lied, sorry"

Sekinj, Siege Engineer, has been struck down!


The goblin grinned at the battered corpse of the dwarf, and headed towards andersonw's room. No one was there. Pesco started running towards the exit of the fortress, and surely enough, he could hear the steps of the last dwarf echoing from the corridor to the surface.

Andersonw thought that he had a good enough headstart on the goblin to ensure his survival. What he didn't count on, however, was with how harsh the effects of years of cave adaptation could be. Upon reaching the surface, Andersonw was overtaken by vertigo upon seeing the endless sky, and blindness from the brightness of sunlight. As he was struggling to recover from that, a sharp pain on his abdomen told him that the goblin had caught up.

The pain made the dwarf wake up, but it was too late. He could feel, as he tried to run, the blood flowing freely out of his wound...

Andersonw, Mason, has bled to death.


The goblin looked upon the last dwarf's corpse. The work was done. Time to regroup the troops, and move on to the next settlement.



The Settlement of Oslanvathez has withered.

Quick listing of the roles:

Miner - Bomb - kill one player and himself in the proccess (magma/cave-in)
Animal Handler - Watcher - could set an animal to "watch" a player at night.
Mason - One-way mason. - meta-pun.
Kobold thief - Would remove powers from players. Removed Jailkeeping, Hammering, SK nightkill, Watching and Bombing abilities.

Townies - two cooks was an idea I took from Dead Rikimaru's "Nightstalkers" game - in that game, there were two pro-town players with repeated power roles (and one scum with the same fake claim). I found that to be a nice twist. The two cook role PMs were completely different (each vanilla townie PM was completely different from each other).

Noble Scum - Two nobles. A hammerer (could vote secretly if L-1. Must not be voting anyone to vote secretly) and a jailkeeper (captain of the guard, has jail keys). Killing was a group action, so the Captain of the guard could jail (not roleblock - they jailed andersonw on night 1, so the SK kill failed there) and kill by himself. - I decided to do this because of the reduced number of scum.

Timeater, I would really hope you take a lesson of humility out of this game, instead of your "man, I could have done better than the town". You were in the the townwagons of D1,2,3, for pretty poor reasons. Next game try not to take things so personally - not liking someone doesn't mean they are scum.

Anyway, about pesco. You stayed on the game until day 4. If town had lynched Pesco at that moment, it would have ended the game immediately with a mafia win. (edit: like sekinj said)

On the other hand, the day the town was actually played on by Pesco was day 3, during the mass claim when he claimed neutral power role, and everyone backed off the Pesco wagon because of that. That was the day everyone played on Pesco's hands. As Andersonw said at the time:
"All claimed third-party rules must be lynched no matter what."

Andersonw: Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice... ;-) I think you're never going to leave a claimed neutral live through the day again after this one, hehe.

Well, if you had lynched Ramus D4, maybe Pesco would have killed Tuberkulos. Not likely, specially because Ramus was much less suspect than Tuberkulos or Pesco D4. Also, if scum hadn't decided to block Pesco when he tried to kill Tuberkulos (N3). Funny that the lack of SK kills was kinda bad for the town in this game.

Pesco did very well, but I doubt he was the first to claim neutral early game ;-) Or even Lylo near "prisoner dilemma" situations (See Bond Villain Mafia).

Oh my, that was a terrible battle. You were right up there in the battlements when the goblin siege arrived. The catapults and ballistaes that you designed were put to work by the army, but there were just too many goblins. They stormed the main halls, made short work of the army, and slaughtered most of the fortress.

Luckly, you were in the ammo room when the main defenses were breached, so you managed to lock yourself in, stay very very quiet, and just leave your position after everything was silent.

It was not a pretty sight. Only a handful of dirty, despairing dwarves remained. Some were already being driven insane by the visage of their former comrades' corpses. You brought a small dagger with you, just in case, because you have no idea how to use it.

Still something is amiss, you feel that the danger has not passed completely yet. Gather the other dwarves, talk to them during the day, and try to find and eliminate the threat.

You win when all threats to Oslavanthez have been eliminated.
