I'm used to Voltz, so I look at the mods for the FTB server and go . Wouldn't even know where to start. Would definitely join the vanilla server if it were rebooted, but it feels odd to poke at a server already established and mostly disused.
Tierce, I will tutor you in FTB magics if you want in?!
I'm fairly sure I could learn through Youtube tutorials, but it's mostly that if I want to play a highly developed world, I already have a Voltz server with a group of friends. (Particle accelerators! Fission reactors! Giant chicken made of wool--wait, that one doesn't count.) I'm still learning all the details of machinery and don't need something else to get confused by. Thanks for the offer, in any case!

The only things I'd really like to see in a vanilla server are Rei minimap features, and I don't know if dynmap covers them. Having an actual map on the corner + waypoints + death point has saved me a lot of grief in the past.

I really like my little corner by the edge of the taiga. It's to the west of spawn, by the sea, where taiga meets extreme hills (which aren't so much hills as a really nice meadow right in front of my place). The only things above ground are my glass ceiling, the door and the animal enclosure.
There's something wrong with my enclosure, and I can't figure out what. Occasionally, an animal will wander out, but everything is closed in and I'm sure that no one is opening the gate. There are no blocks on the inside that might be causing this. It didn't bother me much (hey, you're out here, might as well slaughter you! 8D) until what was then my only light gray sheep escaped. It was a pain to get it back.
Sprinting is rather buggy.
If anyone wants birch, I planted a lot of it a hill between my house and Dav/M's. Just be sure to re-plant in the same amount, and you're welcome to the rest of the saplings.

Thank you so much, Rhinox. I redid the pen and killed
released
the chickens. I have enough eggs to get them back when I feel like making a structure for them.
Major adventure! Klazam was looking for a new horse and fell with it in a cave. Turns out my missing horse had fallen down the same cave and was still there. I went to meet him and then followed him home (I was considerably inept at it, but...). Thanks again for the help, Klaz. ^_^

You need to try and mount them with your hand empty, otherwise they just rear up without you ever mounting. That's why you fed it all your sugar--because it was either that or rearing up.

Which timezone, ETL?
I need to finish my watermill and the lighthouse's outer area and add those infamous paths, but for now I'd like a break from builds that are just for show.

I might be busy because I'm being drafted to a gaming session, but I'll drop by if I'm somehow free and get through some other stuff first.
EDIT: If you need iron for the pistons, feel free to get it from the water mill axle blocks. I'm essentially down to ingots in my house and need to mine more to finish the mill anyway, so might as well offer up some.

Who started building a giant house in the water in the Vanilla server to the west of my house/North of the lighthouse?
I know I haven't been active on the server over the past month, but the beauty of that bay was that it didn't have anything in it, now there is the beginning of a construction that is blocky and right in the middle of the water landscape, and has a Nether portal that breaks the previous Nether path between me and Klaz...

Pretty sure that is fishy's base that he started working on.
Regarding the nether portal, I guess you didn't manually place your nether portal at x/8, y, z/8 when you originally built it? thats the only way to ensure a link and to keep it no matter who builds nether portals nearby. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Nethe ... and_Nether
Engh.
Yeah, I don't much like that base. Obviously it's not up to me and there isn't any such thing as laying claim to a piece of land, but I wish that whoever it is had asked first. I picked that spot specifically because I loved the view--now my "sea view" is that build instead. Thinking of relocating my whole house elsewhere, but argh.
Klaz fixed my portal when I built it, iirc. I'm not in the area to check it right now, and would have to go to Klaz's place through the overworld to see where his portal leads to now.

I feel like I need to go back to Vanilla. (Especially since I still have to buckle down and figure out what's going on with my KMP configs.) Still need to finish some things on that watermill and paths, but I need more iron for that and little patience for mining atm. Need to figure out what else I'd like to create.
In post 14755, Klazam wrote:I think that they now function like horses. not sure
yeah I did some research... they unified the horse and boat control scheme in 1.6, but since horses strafe slowly using 'A' and 'D' and boats shouldn't strafe, they changed the value of slowly to zero for boats - problem is horses also go backwards slowly so when changing the value of slowly to zero, boats also no longer brake and go backwards. So yeah.. and pretty much everyone is either complaining about the new controls so probably eventually it will be changed back.
You probably figured it out already, but boats are working closer to Newtonian physics now--if you want to brake, spin around and hit W. Not the best and least boat-crashing solution, but I tried it last night and wasn't that awful.
In other news, I really really like what I've done to the inside of my house, even if it's considerably more modern than the outside. ^_^ The Minecraft Furniture server has some awesome ideas.

I don't mind people building nearby, I mind builds cutting off my view of the sea and/or things that cut on my area much. Rhinox and I build pretty similarly, and if I want to go north I'll always have snow on my roofs due to taiga... so my solution is south, and I'd like to keep that meadow section because it's pretty obvious by now that I'm a prolific builder. Feel free to add company to the cottage and desert house on the other side of Rhinox's, though!

I have no real clue where you are ("little farm" covers a lot of options without a screenshot to know what you're talking about) and I'm not going to log in now to check. Either way, thanks but no, I don't want a connection to the bottom of my mine, there's already an entrance at my home. Also, if you are building in the area between the watermill and my home, please take care with the underground, I'm building a house pretty much under the watchtower.

Uhm... Considering I was hit by a creeper last night because someone in the northern end of my mine left poor lighting on supposedly explored areas, sorry, but I am not too keen on it myself. I know we're digging near your area, but it might be better if you headed west and under the sea. If your cube is still in Ex Hills (it should be), you have plenty of caves on land nearby, to the southwest of Rhinox, that don't need to drop into our lvl 11.

Not too enthusiastic about a world reset, tbh, but 1) that seems to be a rather long way off yet and 2) as long as I can get a copy of the current world, I'll be fine.

I appear to not have posted server screenshots here yet. Let's fix this.
Spoiler:

Using CoterieCraft, and perched on my lighthouse because it was the only way to make the whole thing visible. Builds of mine that are not visible are the bay and desert houses and, obviously, said lighthouse.
From left to right: Stables, barn, Nordic house, fountain, the remains of M's beacon, archer tower, Rhinox's windmill, cow on a tree, my hobbit hole, forester's lodge, the roof of Rhinox's home, watermill, Italian villa.

Feel free to take any of my houses (that'll be mostly anything that is not Rhinox's farm or Bulbazak's cube) while you decide what to do. Also, check out the (still unfinished) hobbit hole.
EDIT: I've been busy elsewhere, but just give me a bit of an advance notice and I'll pop into Vanilla. Few people do nowadays...

Speaking of which, I haven't abandoned Rhinox or Tierce - I'm going to be looking into updating to 1.7.2/4 soonish.
Keep in touch!
I haven't been playing for a while (apparently I can only handle one sandbox at a time), but I do intend to come back not in the distant future.

M: everything that has been loaded by player approximation stays in, right? That is, all parts of the overworld/nether/end we've seen/build will stay, right?
If so, I have no issues with updating, it just means we need to travel to see new sections and world structures.

Considering that the world is infinite for all practical purposes, we're not running out of new canvas any time soon. If you do want to start anew, take off for new areas after the update?

Imagine that. I'd be pretty okay with restarting--as long as we do get world save files for the current save.
There's a few things I'd like to try building, and it'd be nice to have a somewhat organized spawntown, with defined lots and whatnot--even if the styles are very different.
But mostly I'd just like to play again and there's little point in doing it on the server if people are not interested in the current vanilla.

I would love to have something organized like this. We would probably have to clear some ground, because unless I forgot that quickly, spawn area is everything but flat.
My base is just North from Bag End. Little island with a cottage-like house on it.

Let me know when you (and whoever else, IDC) can be on so we can survey for a location then?
I'm busy for several hours now; probably won't be done before midnight EST. But I will let you know (it'd be easier if you hopped on AIM!).

My home (just north of Bag End, look for the island with a map before the bridge) has a connection through the Nether to Klaz (we needed that one for the sake of the old server!) and a jungle biome. Have fun. Will patch it up with stairs when I have time, and will do the same with a mesa biome, once I find one or someone gives me coordinates to it.

That'd have been me, that's my place. Make it straight and it should be pretty scale-able.

Thanks! It's not my own design, but it served as a good base for trying out new colors and make the whole area more or less consistent.
You're not looking hard enough--there isn't a place, we make one. I terraformed that whole island to make it work. It's better than diagonal bridges, edge-on blocks will rarely look good.
If you want, I can deal with the bridge tomorrow night. Just get me some more acacia. >.>

Fishing hut is now a thing (I grabbed your blowfish and it now has a place of honor on the wall, ETL). If you feel like being nice, drop some string and/or fishing rods on the chests. Nether path to the jungle/desert is both safe and ground-cobbled.

Bridge is done, as well as ETL's path to it.
I found a village! Follow the Nether and then underground path to it. It should be spider and zombie proof. Should.
Whoever made that ugly gaping chasm in the desert by the portal, could you at least patch it up? Make it a bay or something; leaving it a mess just outside the portal with water haphazardly pouring in seems pretty bad form when someone was kind enough to make you a pathway there...
