Also I'm now realizing when I had 5 correct, 3 in place I could have just kept swapping pairs of numbers and I feel dumb.

Not like magic, the method both makes it clear teh numbers are and which 2/3 places they are in, that was the only one that also was off by 15

I definitely want to see how sam's method works out and if it gets us there faster. This was just the first thing that popped into my mind, but you've improved upon it which is super impressive.
