We can do that and it's easy enough to set up. The only problem was no one ever played but it only needs a gig or so of memory so I can create the server on our host if arch is ok to do the rest.

A minimalist quasi-vanilla is certainly possible as a 2nd option for folks who like a choice. I was even playing the old vanilla server with clientside mods on my own.

How does that work? Just minor mods for interface and such that don't add a buncha nonsense? Cuz I could compromise there, sure.
Idk, I just like vanilla. The base game has enough to busy me and I've always felt like mods just made base game stuff irrelevant. Like I could make a thriving rail road system and build glorious cities and blablabla, or we could remove that potential by having teleporters, thus destroying fun.
I think the draw is that a lot of the people who like modded aren't big builders. Some are, like Klaz, but he also really likes Vanilla. People like me or dav are more about creating more and more complex systems, rather than building. Because let's face it, neither of us can build beautiful things
I guess that's fair. I never even figured out Redstone I don't even know what you guys do, I just wanna make pretty things.
......Is the printing press a mod, or was that a plug in before Microsoft killed bukkit? Cuz that might have been the only thing I liked, cuz I always wanted to build a grand library and deliver news letters and mass produced novels to the people of a grand city
The thing I like about Vanilla is how "horizontal" it is. No matter how many diamonds someone have, you are just one hour or two away from being "in the game". Modded is fun, but it is too vertical, in terms that everyone is trying to climb that tech tree.
That said, once they figure out a "Sky-factory" like modpack for 1.10, I'm sure I'll be all over it. Grinding in the void is addicting.
The server is crashing with a watchdog timer (tick that takes more than 60 seconds).
This is not good. It isn't technically vanilla, ETL set it up with fast leaf decay and morpheus.
I'm gonna try pure vanilla and see what happens. If that doesn't work then it will be on ETL to bug the hosting company (or we'll have to consider other options).
Edit: Pure vanilla is working ok at least for now. The current world on the vanilla server has some interesting biomes around the spawn point, so unless it starts having problems we're good to go on the vanilla side.
Spoiler: tech stuff
The forge world performed horribly on vanilla (thought loading it on vanilla might help), so it's currently running a new one that was created with vanilla. This bodes well for the modded pack perhaps getting better performance if on a new world.

You don't understand how hard I had to drag MS kicking and screeming into accepting mods. Then for the longest time they refused to give up their vanilla even though nobody used it anymore.
(ALso I have 1gig min 4 gigs max RAM for this vanilla instance. Overkill? Perhaps. Wil lI still play with all graphics settings on fast and minimal? Yes. Will I get over 100 FPS? Most definitely.)
spoke too soon about it being stable
another watchdog timer thing. this has to be something with the server's computing power, unless 1.10 is basically unstable even for vanilla
