Ah, I wasn't thinking about it properly.
By the time you are level 80, you will have probably a large amount of karma regardless of how many boosts you used because of all the quests you've done around the world and pretty much everything you do.
So yeah, what I said is wrong. You don't need to grind anything really at all, just play through the game.

Yes, those are examples of pay2win things in LOTRO. Not sure what that has to do with the pay2win karmaboosts in GW2. The pay2win in LOTRO is more extreme yes, but just because there are worse examples doesn't make this excusable.

x-boosts mean a lot if you work a dayjob and will only be able to commit a couple hours each night to the game (and

is who the game is targeting, not 13 year olds with Mommy's credit card). Arenanet knows their demographic: the pimply teens who played vanilla and first one or two WoW expansions are graduating from college and (theoretically) finding or have stable jobs that they hate.
The boosts are pretty wimpy, but in the end they do affect how many net hours it takes to earn an item. Pretty big for anyone who doesn't have a lot of hours to throw at the game. :/

And if you think these karmaboosts are going to be it, come back and quote me in a years time. First they said it would be cosmetic and nothing giving anyone an advantage, now they have things to help you get gear quicker. Slippery slope.
