I believe I'm dangerously close to the top 5.

Sixth was a lot higher than I was expecting. Awesome. No way was JD's entry a record-breaking song though.

Last time I entered Rachmaninoff and did quite well. Prokofiev is in the same class, not to mention this piece was grander, more technically demanding, and more accessible for the casual listener.

Classical music format cannot be compared to the modern music format. It's not per se a song, it's a piece of music which is almost always a movement from something bigger. I don't think the results are the real appreciation of the music just it's not adapted to the competition.

Guys, firstly thank you for a particularly... interesting SC. As my first one, it was particularly enjoyable :)

I also want to thank anyone who gave constructive criticism. As I understand it, the main failings of my song were the sound quality and my tone/key? I admit, I did kinda cobble it together last minute; the other one that I wanted to do needed a complex melody/harmony that I just couldn't write in time.

Oh, and <3 to Johhog and Junpei. You guys rule.

As to the others, the "=/" and the "c-c-c-combo breaker"'s of this world, shame on you. What's the point in reviewing someone's work, especially someone who you KNOW will be reading your critiques, and not saying anything constructive?

But overall, thanks for having me. I think I'll stay out of original work for the time being; maybe learning to sing would be a distinct advantage. :P

To be fair, I enter to experience new music, not coach aspiring musicians on what they can do better. I vote based on how much I enjoy a given song. I'm not here to give you (or anyone) point by point breakdowns of what you could do better to get a recording contract. Not to be a dick, but there are better outlets for that than SC.

I'm not
asking
for "point by point breakdowns of what you could do better to get a recording contract". Just saying
why
you thought it was bad/awful/"embarrassing to listen to" would be nice, not just saying "=/".

BTW, I am fully aware that you didn't cast any sort of opinion on it inthread, which is fine too. Just, if you're going to post, at least say something that isn't "olol this is shit."

To be honest, I had no problem with the melody itself; it was simple, but the lyrics were the star there, not the melody.

I think what needs to be fixed in the song is simply your pitch. Your tonality is a little breathy/small, but that's okay too as it's your own character. You could improve on this in the long run, but the only thing that needs immediate fixing is pitch.

I'm a musician (especially a vocalist) and I had a difficult time listening to the song because your pitches were almost constantly off.

One thing that might help is recording the melody and the piano separately; there's no reason you can't, for a recording format.

And I'll do some long-distance vocals for your tracks anytime. :)

I think the main problem with England's entry was that it felt really safe and nothing was stand out about it. Like, it wasn't bad. But it didn't stand out to me.
