or I would edit this page on the wiki to contain that information.

the page for Open 5 http://www.mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php?title=Open_5
is pretty awesome. Should it be the model for other open games?

Am I alone in thinking that we should do the setup's wiki page (w/ links to examples) as well as each specific game page (w/ link to setup page) before we certify any?
I endorse this product or service.

You could probably guess that I think it's an excellent way to clarify/collaborate on making the setup Just So. :)

Flay, I can't remember, what was the problem with California? Why was it dropped as the newbie setup? Was it a balance issue?

There is a bug that Kison picked up on in which the town auto wins with a Roleblocker lynch day 1.

meh. If the scum let their Rb get lynched day 1 they totally deserve to lose. Just like if the town let their cop and doc claim (without lynching the RB) on day 1 they deserve to lose.

That's Pie E7 (or the part of F11 with both power roles), not California. (But I agree with Adel.)

The main reason for the move in the newbie games was to move to 9 player games (which are inherently less swingy and won't have a D2 lynch-or-lose). Not sure what the balance is on California (almost certainly in the scum's favor, and would probably be a better game with 9 than 7, but not unplayable with 7). That reminds me of a thread I want to start.

Is there a reason that 2:4 nightless is a horrible idea?

er... is there a RB in California?
California is a new 7-player setup being tested in Newbie Games; it contains only one power role, a Sane Cop, along with two Mafia Goons and four Townies. The name comes from a suggestion by xyzzy, based on the code for C9.
See also California Trilogy, an unrelated game series being run by mith.
http://www.mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php ... California
appears to be the same as "Cop C9" which was run as Open 4 http://www.mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php?title=Open_4
http://www.mafiascum.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4098
Pie E7 is an Open Setup game which features a Day Start and consists of the following roles:
1 Mafia Goon
1 Mafia Roleblocker (for balance reasons, the Roleblocker should also be able to nightkill even if the Goon is dead; see this thread for arguments on the matter)
1 Sane Cop
1 Doctor
3 Townies
This setup was used for a time as a Newbie Setup as a replacement for the somewhat unbalanced C9, but turned out to be somewhat unbalanced toward the Town.
http://www.mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php?title=Pie_E7

yeah, this just convinces me that it is necessary to compile all of the information on existing setups and games before we worry about setup analysis, debate and certification.

Wouldn't that equate to 2:5-6 nightless then?

Not really. The best townies will die a horrible death in 2:10. Also there's kill WIFOM. 2:4 nightless would have purely day-analysis. It would be the ideal strategy to comb over what has been said, look at relationships, and go over meta, rather than deal with any night WIFOM. I say it is fair, because each side can suffer one mislynch.

Adel, I know there's no RB in California; you asked about California, shaft.ed answered about Pie E7.

Thanks. My memory failed me (I only recalled liking the setup) , and between the responses from shaft.ed and you I was totally confused. I even had to look at some setups run as "California" in Road to Rome just to make sure I was no longer confused.

~~~
this is the direction I think we should take:
1. Name steering committee.
2. Compile completed Open Game information (including open games run by mods in the mini-normal queue?) on the wiki to enable evidence-based discussion.
3. Identify "least controversial" setups for the first round of certification.
why is this starting to feel like genetic nomenclature?
And I think I'm rapidly demonstrating my lack of qualification for this endevour.
Why is name steering important?
This is the format I was planning on using for when I go through all these games to catalog them. Any recommendations or changes would be best before I set out to do it all.
Format wrote: - Pie E7
Overview:
Synopsis:
Day 1
  • spectrumvoid: 4 (Patrick, Primate, Rosso Carne, ShadowLurker)
    klebian: 2 (ChannelDelibird, spectrumvoid)
Night 1
  • ChannelDelibird investigated klebian (Blocked).
    Patrick blocked ChannelDelibird.
    Rosso Carne killed ShadowLurker.
    ShadowLurker protected Patrick.
Day 2
  • klebian: 3 (ChannelDelibird, Patrick, Primate)
LG: a minor suggestion:
for the night actions, how about the uniform format: name (role) action: target (role) (result).
example:
  • ChannelDelibird (Cop) investigated: klebian (Townie) (no result -- blocked).
    Patrick (Mafia Roleblocker) blocked: ChannelDelibird (Cop) (blocked investigation result).
    Rosso Carne (Mafia Goon) killed: ShadowLurker (Doctor) (dead).
    ShadowLurker (Doctor) protected: Patrick (Mafia Roleblocker) (protected).
I know that for many of these games that much detail will be seen as unnecessary, but I think that the extra information will go a long way towards prevention future confusion.
looks good. Should there be a line that states that the game is over?
are you going to use the gamebox template?
Code: Select all
{{gamebox
|forum=Little Italy
|mod=Yosarian2
|mod2
|modtext
|setup=Switch
|outcome=Mafia
|outcome2
