The one thing I really didn't like is how the plot wound up talking about the Holocaust, which felt like an annoying attempt at forcing social implications on a bankrobbing flick.

Frosting is not something I really need on a cake I can usually take it off. If involving the heist of the nazi stuff was the frosting I wouldn't of taken it off. I enjoyed it all with the rest of the cake. Only frosting I ever find edible is the kind that is also ice cream or just chocolate icing
What Spike Lee did is more like baking an excellent cheese cake, then painting it black in order for the cake to also make a statement about African American rights.
Where's Kison when you need him to photoshop in a good chocalte, ice cream, or cheese cake with sexy glass...

Running over little kids with a stake truck.
Or did you want the glasses as part of the icing? She looks ugly to me either way. I'll take it plain.
While I'm here... Inside Man was pretty good. I didn't care too much about the Holocaust plot - I don't think it was prevalent enough to take away from the robbery. Also, I can't remember, but was that the movie where they made the guy take off his turban?
Just finished watching it. I can see why people are saying that the nazi-plot was unneccessary. It was. Sometimes a bank heist movie just needs to be a bank heist movie.
They should have cut out Jodie Foster's character completly and just focused on more room-switching and other "messing with the cops" shennanigans. As Clive Owen said (twice) it's the how that's important, but Spike Lee just couldn't resist making the why semi-important when it didn't need to be.
I watched it yesterday. It was quite good; but when you've watched Hustle, you expect cons and bank heists to be a little more clever than this if they want to make a 2 hour movie about it.
Also, I agree about the nazi stuff being overkill. Owen said it right at the beginning: bank heists are about two things, financial profit and proving that you can. NOT moral justice.

This.
It's unfortunate that good oral sex excuses bad chemistry. - Korts
I still think its an awesome film with or without that part.

Phew I thought I was three films behind but Ive seen this already, I enjoyed the film, it was quite interesting, whilst I was watching it there were large parts that seemed pointless and I have to say I cottoned on quite quickly what the ending was. (ie. the hiding place) Whilst the plot was enjoyable there are quite a number of episodes of the early series of Hustle that had more complex plots than this and were more enjoyable (I watched the comic book one the other day where they have the corrupt police woman following and they turned the whole scam on her)
Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.

Just watched it. Very good, professional work. I just knew from the moment Derek got out that it had to end with someone violently dying, but that was the appropriate finish for it. Even though I didn't see particular incentive for the black kid to shoot Danny; all we saw Danny doing was not shitting his pants when the kid and his thugs tried scaring him.
I enjoyed the hell out of this film, though. At the time I'd just stopped working directly with disadvantaged, criminal, and fucked-up youth, so I appreciated the gritty realism (especially that damn curb-check) and the honest implications of all of the characters' actions. I don't really remember any strong negatives, and I recommend this film to anybody who can stomach it.
I just wanted to say that I think this thread is a brilliant idea. However I'd prefer not to ever join the list, because there aren't many good films that I know of. ;[
American History X is brilliant, just saw it for the second time a couple of weeks ago. Norton's acting is close to flawless, and the ending was a real shocker for me. A very brave look at the dark sides of growing up.
