I expected the highest bid to be around 100,000. Therefore I wanted to bid 90,000 to be safe. To be just a bit more safe I took 89,000 just in case others were thinking the same. I just should have played a little bit more safe then that.mathcam wrote:I couldn't for the life of me remember how I got to $89,000, but apparently there wassomestrategy (Idoremember spending some time trying to come up with a good amount), because Thoth picked the exact same thing. If only I had picked 88999. Thoth, do you remember how you got to $89,000?
Cam
I do think there must be something to this game when you can get a tie with a number like 89,000. I'm definitively /in for the next one.-

Shadyforce, you forgot about bidding 0 and voluntarily leaving. If we compete, it's basically the prisoner's gambit. If one of us bids 0 and the other bids 1, the one who bid 0 gets what he has now and the 1 gets everything else. If both of us bid 1, we both get half what we have now. If we both bid 0, we both get what we have now.
PBuG, want to see if we can figure out a mechanic that lets us split this? It'd get us both into the top 3.-

I belive it was mentioned (and demonstrated earlier) If you tie for highest amount (be it 1 or half the pot or some other number) you will both leave with half your current stash.Let's say the remainder of the pot is a diversion for your get-away (Don't forget the cops!)
Now if you can agree to let one of you take the remainder, and meet in say the Atlantis Hotel Grand Bahamas week from tuesday ....By co-operating at least one of you can probably win... otherwise Shadyforce wins[size=84]"Hmm, wow.. Thanks a lot Mathcam .
Anyway the problem is can they trust each other. Each of their objectives are to win. There's no glory in second place. Don't kid yourself.
OK, here's the position:
-They both get eliminated, I win.
-They both take the money, I win.
-One of them get's eliminated and loses, the other wins.
So the third option is what we need to analyse.
For one of them, should they try to win, they will be choosing an amount. Bacause one of them will be eliminated, it doesn't matter how much. If they choose any amount be it 1 or 50000 then they potentially win the whole pot or lose. So they might as well choose 1.
So now there are only 2 viable options, choosing 0 or 1.
0+0 = My win.
1+1 = My win.
1+0 = Person A wins.
0+1 = Person B wins.
Remember that if you choose 0 you will have no chance of winning whatsoever. So Istillthink they will both choose 1!

That's right. The only meaningful glory comes in beating mathcam...regardless of margin.shadyforce wrote:There's no glory in second place. Don't kid yourself.
And why is everyone considering only whole dollar amounts? After all this discussion, I'd probably submit $.01. Ha! Now that's no longer a hidden strategy for either of you!
