Yos' Beach Bash 2009 - Completed - VIDEOS & PICS

ITT, we will discuss the planning of Yosarian's Beach Bash 2009...provided that Yos2 and I can get the beach house in Brigantine, NJ again during the summer of 2009.

The months of interest are currently June or August 2009. Exactly when will depend on the schedules of the beach house owners and some input from people interested in attending.

Just wanted to get the ball rolling.

We had a really great time at this year's beach bam and definitely want to roll out the sandy carpet again for another event.

On Saturday night, our non-mafia associates are invited to join the party. It'll hopefully work as well as it did last year, though Stan won't be able to make it. Hopefully Jay will be there again and will pick up the guitar. That was fun...at least for me.

And if you have karaoke PS2 games, bring them. We have 2 and Ether had a couple. We might need a backup PS2, as Yos2 has broken ours but I have since fixed it because I am awesome.

We still have to check with the beach house owners as to whether or not we'll be able to book the beach house next year.

We are also still working on figuring out when to have the gathering and how long it should be.

If he goes back to his job in education this fall, then he'd prefer to have the beach bash in June after school lets out. Unless there are any snow days, the last day of school would be the 15th.

This year, we had a 3-day event and it went well. If the 2009 event pulls more people from further away, Yos believes that the duration should be longer to make it worth their while to come out. I think that 3 days are optimal, but maybe we could make 4-5 days work.

That's the schedule. Like it or lump it. I scheduled my vacation around this shindig. Wheee. Yos has checked in with his parental units about having the Brigantine house at that time and so far, it looks good. He'll check in with them again to give them the concrete dates and to ensure that all will be well.

As short on cash as we are, we'll be lucky to have enough gas money in June to get out to the beach house. Then again, with the way gas prices have been falling, gas might be free by then. (I know better, though.)

The house has been reserved for the bash.

It's a lovely 2-story family-style house with four bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a front porch and an upstairs deck. We're right across from a beach access, so the beach is just across the street. The house is within crawling distance of a liquor store and the island just south of Brigantine is Atlantic City. So, those who are interested in going to the casinos can. It's all right there.

Wow. I just looked at where West Winfield is on the map. Damn, I thought that my relatives in Hornell, NY lived out in the middle of nowhere...

I hope to. I really do but it depends on when we move and telling the big guy in this pic about it.

Oh and don't forget having the little guy with us and most likely not having someone to watch him is an issue to face as well.

It would be great to have farside and the big guy at the bash, but Yos and I are reluctant to have kids at the bash, no matter how cool the kid is. Sorry.

Throughout the gathering, there will be light alcoholic refreshments for those old enough to imbibe and on Saturday night at the big party, there will probably be more alcohol.

Not at the moment. I do not know about Ether, but Yos and I do not possess any Guitar Hero related games.

If anyone wants to bring food, that would be awesome too; we're still a little fuzzy on exactally how we're going to feed this many people, although I'm sure it'll work out.

As far as cooking goes, in addition to the kitchen there is also a barbecue grill outside, which may or may not work. I just barely managed to get it to function last year.

Sleeping: Not counting the room that Yos and I have claimed for ourselves, there are 2 bedrooms with full size beds and one bedroom with two twin size beds. Given that we'll have more people than beds, those who can bring sleeping bags and or inflatable mattresses are encouraged to do so for their comfort.

Also, across the street...there is a beach. If you're so inclined, feel free to bring the appropriate gear for a beach day.

Is the floor comfortable enough to sleep on?

If you like hardwood floors, then yes. Otherwise, I’d suggest the comfort of an air mattress. The only carpeted floor is in the sewing room and we can say that the floor in there is comfortable to sleep on with just a sleeping bag. Maybe 1 person could cram in there, maybe 2-3 if they’re friendly.

Is the beach located in such a place that, if one were to reach a certain state, they could enjoy a nice slumber amongst the dunes without being accosted through the night and awake to find themselves missing a wallet/their shoes/some pints of blood?

Well, the Brigantine beach isn’t Atlantic City...so, that’s a plus. Though, I would advise against slumbering in the dunes as there are fines for being on them.

Wheee. We just got back from doing a test run at the Brigantine House. I threw a surprise 30th birthday party for the Yoster to celebrate our birthdays. I always forget how much work parties can be! At least I know now that the grill works, even if the flame cannot be adjusted on it.

I have some very bittersweet news. I've been given the opportunity to travel to Australia for the last two weeks of June basically for free, which of course I have to jump on, but this means that I have to /out of beach bash, to my everlasting sorrow.

Sunday, Yos picked up a ton of soda for $1 per 2-liter. I picked up some alcohol for Saturday night. Yesterday, Yos took the alcohol, various board games and 22 bottles of soda and other supplies down to the beach house. While we were out on Sunday, we hit some video game stores. Karaoke seemed to go over pretty well last year, so I bought some more games from the Singstar variety.

I tried talking him into buying me a margarita machine to assist in enhancing my enjoyment of the party, but he declined. But it was only $70! !! !!! Bah. Fine. I had him take the smoothie machine/blender down to the beach house.

We're definitely looking forward to the gathering.

Ps. Don't forget sunblock...in case anyone should wander over to the beach.

If all goes well, Yos and I will be heading down to the beach house tonight after I return home from work. We'll spend tomorrow setting the house up for our guests.

Webcam? For better or worse, we do not own one. There is a digital camera on site, though. I filled up my one memory card and had to venture out to buy a couple more. I had uploaded my pics to Ether's laptop, but for some reason...I just do not trust the dear lass to send me each and every photo and video.

Perhaps Yos and I can add a webcam to our wedding registry, to ensure that we'll have one for the next bash.
