Mini 611 - Troy, Meet Helen (Game Over)

I used to live in Troy. You know the place. It was a nice little town; one of those suburban paradise-type scenes where there was no crime and plenty of poker games and cook-outs to go around. Manicured lawns, flawless homes, professionally-decorated interiors, (“with just a touch of Asian flare; it would look so good with your new futon!” she said…I think she just wanted to sell that damned water fountain with the bamboo growing in it. I just wanted to get laid and thought chicks might dig the set-up.)

Anyway, for as long as I can remember, Troy was a pretty quiet, good place to live. Until Helen came to town, anyway. Yeah, I know, cliché as hell, isn’t it? But it happened. I remember the day she moved here, her bright pink SUV blaring down the road without a care for the 15-mile-an-hour speed limit. I remember how perfect her lawn was before she got her neon-green acrylic nails into it. Once she had her say, the grass had pink flamingos and there were more strange people going in and out of that woman’s house than you could count on both hands and both feet.

Then, one day, they found her dead in her own home with evidence that she’d been dating some mobster. Everything went to shit right quick. The town kind of closed themselves off from the outside world, and everyone suspected everyone else, even their closest friends and family. Turns out that there was a mob presence in good ole Troy…but you don’t wanna hear about that, do you? Oh, you do, eh? Alright, I remember the whole thing like it was yesterday…and if you gimme anything more about clichés, you won’t be hearing the rest of the story. Capiche?

Mizzy -- can I ask that we know the set-up of last game? I think it is only fair that we all have the same exact information to speculate on. If speculating were to be done. Because if we do not have the same information it will give others particular advantages over the game knowing what role was in the last set-up (as I under the assumption you changed it up a bit). I think it would only be fair though for all of us to have the same information as to what the roles were for the previous set-up.

The two set-ups are different and you should be playing this game as a completely separate game, without taking the other one into consideration.

The first day is always the hardest when you’re trying to root out scum, you know? So it took a really long time, but eventually everyone decided that Netlava was too suspicious to live. Hell, even Netlava thought he was too suspicious to live and it was he, himself that kicked the stool out from under his own feet. That’s right;

Getting sick of me blabbing yet? I didn’t think so. Anyway, folks slept real light that night, scared out of their wits, and for a good reason, too. Shots rang out sometime after midnight, but no one moved from their houses. Too wussy. When morning came and they all felt a little safer, either because of the sunrise or because they had a good dose of liquid courage, folks started popping their heads out their doors and looking around, taking stock to see if everyone had made it and if anyone knew where the shots had come from. It didn’t take 'em long to notice that somebody was missing; Battousai. They never found the body, but they searched his house for clues to what happened and all they found was evidence that he was innocent, too.

I have no clue why, but the second day was just as difficult as the the first one to root out scum. It really oughta been easier, if you ask me, but nobody asked me. Anyway, they eventually drug it out to a standoff; Tinsley or Macavenger. And boy was that a heated standoff. Eventually, when the light of day had begun to turn into the orange-ish sheen of sunset, they did pick Macavenger. Tinsley must have shit himself with glee to get off so easy. Instead of dying, Tinsley got to help string Macavenger up. When Mac was good and dead (they prodded him with a stick to make sure) they went through his stuff too and this time,

Everyone was pretty pleased with themselves, for killing a scum, you know? So there was this huge party that lasted most of the night; I don't remember who's house it started at but I remember it kind of skipped around Troy. First one house, then the next. Everyone kind of got smashed and nobody really worried when

left the party early...he said he had a call on his cell phone. It was really noisy, said he couldn't hear a shittin' thing, so he went outside. The next morning when everyone crawled out of their dark corners, hung over and grumpy, they found Walnut's cell phone with no battery and no SIM card, half-smashed on the sidewalk, splattered by blood that wasn't too old. Everyone woke up real fast when they realized that they'd lost another one of their number.

There wasn't any partying that night, no way. Once Lord Gurgi had come up as innocent, no body really knew what to do other than to wait it out 'til morning, hoping that nobody else would turn up dead. When the run rose, it didn't take anyone very long to notice that

wasn't among them. They went to his house and the door was open, nobody was there, but there were signs of forced entry and some of the furniture was all fucked up...he put up a fight, anyway. With another innocent dead, the remaining townsfolk had another decision to make.

The townsfolk were so shaken that they decided to not string anybody up. They figured they might be better off if they just watched and waited. Once the decision had been reached, when morning had barely begun, everyone went back to their houses and boarded themselves in real good.

The scum were getting more brave and more aggressive, you know? They felt pretty sure of themselves to have left that body out there in the open.

The scum were so, so very close to taking over Troy that they could taste it. That day, there was a whole lot of finger-pointing, accusing, and especially a whole lot of swearing. Eventually, charter decided it had to be camn and that was what the two remaining scummers were waiting for. They strung camn up and with a triumphant look, pulled out guns and shot charter and Thesp in cold blood. Troy was theirs and now no one would ever find out why they had killed Helen in the first place.

Yeah, I know it was a long story, and it wasn't a happy ending at all, was it? Thanks for the food, and for listening, yeah. Was the first time I'd told the story. How do I know what happened if the only survivors were scum? Well, I'll let you figure that out. Good day to you.

You guys have been discussing a bunch already, sorry it took me so long to post (we had a code freeze at work and had to get a lot of stuff done beforehand.) Amazingly, this game only had 3 replacements and I have to say a big thank-you to everyone who played! Thank you for posting a lot, thank you for being patient with me, and thank you for playing. Mizzy, thanks for modding, you did a great job, IMHO.

I notice that CF Riot and Mac came in 2nd. Does that mean that Town wins the bronze? Seriously, though, SG is really the only winner here, isn't she? Is this not analogous to how an SK beats both Mafia and Town? It seems a little fuzzy.

Also, I'm trying to figure out whether the game was balanced or not. Seems like it might have been tilted a little in scum's favour. (Or maybe it's just sour grapes cause I got pasted). I'd like to hear from some of the more experienced palyers on that.

I had a lot of fun, good game everyone, sorry I didn't really contribute much.

In order for Shadow Girl to win, the previous Godfather had to die first. Then, scum had to win because if it didn't, she would die. So really, she did win, but since scum had to win for her to win, scum wins at least second place.

Camn's role, the PGO, was incredibly important for the town. She was the balancing token (a way to kill scum without the need for a lynch.) Once she claimed publicly, then I do feel like things were weighed slightly in scum's favor. I did ask 3 people with good modding experience for their input on the set-up before I used it.

The Usurper role is an interesting and hard role to pull off, yes, but it is a role that was used before and is on the wiki. Town did have 2 investigative roles and someone who could have killed off the scum pretty quickly, and I honestly didn't think the Usurper aspect would come into play; kudos for Shadow for actually pulling it off.
