HMMM, I wonder which ingenious scumchatter first started naming his pokemans after Scummers several weeks ago...
Nothing will beat my classic Emerald Nuzlocke team of:
CES the Salamance
Shea the Umbreon
Izzy the Gardevoir
bv the Kabutops
Fate the Typhlosion
and...
QUADZ THE KYOGRE.
Fucking dream team right there. Right up until I lost Fate and bv against Norman. <.<
I should probably finish that playthrough.-

Real Nuzlockes don't grind. Within one level or it's hacks.-

I also don't raise my Pokemon by swapping them out of a fight against higher levels. Go back to Route 1 and make your Pokemon fight its way up.
Damn. Now I want to Nuzlocke again.-

I own no platforms which run pokemon games. A bunch of us did Emerald Nuzlocke runs with randomly generated pokemon a while back, but I thought I'd try another version if there was one available.-

Necro time!
So in preparation of Pokemon Sun and Moon, I've been playing older gen Pokemon games. I played through Pokemon Pearl (normal - not Nuzlocke) as far as getting my National Dex (and ~75 entries into it). Now, I'm playing a Nuzlocke run of Pokemon SoulSilver. My rules are as follows:
1) I must (try to) catch the first Pokemon in each area that I do not have a LIVING member of the same evolutionary line.
2) I must name all of my Pokemon. (I am naming them all after food/drinks, as I am on a bit of a foodie kick right now.)
3) If a Pokemon faints for any reason, I must put it in a "Dead" Box. R.I.P. Pokemon.
4) No grinding past the level of the next Gym Leader's highest Pokemon.
5) I can buy no more than 5 items per Pokemart.
6) Pokemon given by NPCs/in-game events (such as Togepi Egg) are permissible.
7) If I white-out, I lose and end my Nuzlocke run.
It's been challenging so far. On my first run, I wiped on the 3rd gym vs Whitney, when her Miltank w/Rollout just smashed my entire crew.
So far, I've lost 2 Zubats (lost one, encountered/caught another, and then lost the replacement), and a Weedle. In every case, I was careless about type effectiveness. I started Totodile, and my current team is:
Panko the Crocnaw
Annatto the Flaafy
Omelette the Togepi
Granola the Geodude
Bok Choy the Bellsprout
Rosemary the Pidgey
I just got done with the Burned Tower, and now have Raikou & Entei roaming Kanto, when I realized that I never actually caught a Pokemon in Route 33. (It can be 100% bypassed without walking in any grass.) I'm now considering stockpiling Ultra Balls to make a run at one of these Legendaries. If I catch one, it could make the game significantly easier. If not, I could waste my allotment of items on a wild goose chase. DECISIONS ARE HARD (but I think I'm gonna go for it).
(EDIT: Also worth noting, this is more or less a blind playthrough. I've never played G/S/C, or HG/SS. I have some vague/general knowledge of the game simply because I'm generally familiar with the Pokemon universe, but I don't actually know the specifics of this game.)-

Lol and now I just evolved Togepi and Bellsprout after the same battle. Togetic and Weepinbell, go!
With that, I will probably box Pidgey since I don't need 2 Normal/Flying, and hope to pick up something Fire. In the meantime, I'll probably use the Slowpoke I got from Slowpoke Well, and just double up on water types. I want something Psychic anyway.-

No idea lol. Literally the only thing I have looked up is the Gym leaders, so I know what my level cap is at each stage of the game.-

Also, I'm not even going to TRY to go after Entei/Raikou until I'm at least level 45. I'm assuming they'll be lv50 when I encounter them, and I'd rather not wipe trying to catch a legendary.-

Looking at my Pokedex, it looks like no. Togekiss must come after I get the National Pokedex, because the entry right after Togetic is Sandshrew. In post 764, Glork wrote:No idea lol. Maybe I should just go back to Pidgey, since Pidgeot has higher stats...
In the meantime, I grinded out enough coins to get a Dratini as my Goldenrod City pokemon, from the Game Center. Going to teach it Flamethrower and not worry about having a fire type Pokemon.-

Some dude handed me an Eevee. Some other dude had already handed me a Fire Stone. Now I'm trying to decide whether to go Flareon, Umbreon, or maybe just save the Eevee to replace something if/when I lose an important Pokemon.
On that note, bed. Productive first day. Ability to speed up game through emulator helpful.-

Blaaaa I want to replace my Flaafy with Magnemite b/c type resistances, but then I'd have to teach something else Strength. DECISIONS ARE HARD, MAN.-

Raikou/Entei update:
Spent like a solid 90 minutes last night fighting them (they're Lv 40 btw) in a route I already captured a pokemon in. Got sleep on each of them, whittled down their health. Setting up to try to catch at least one of them. Going to Mean Face them w/my Gastly and just chuck balls and hope for the best. I'm waiting for the guy in Azalea Town to make me some Fast Balls which should give me a decent chance of catching one of them as long as sleep gives me 3 balls on each. I'm ok sacrificing two potential normal catches to grab one of these legendaries.-

Yeah SoulSilver has thrown Pokémon at me in nearly every city.In post 777, SleepyKrew wrote:
I feel really dirty about all the "free" Pokemon I'm using in my X run so I'm gonna put an extra restriction on those when I do Y. Though my Lucario died recently and I actually felt kinda relieved. In post 761, BROseidon wrote:The only true way to play a pokemon game.
Sight-nuzlocking XY was really easy because the game literally gives you a Mega Lucario >.>
(Btw I did catch Raikou, but per my level restriction rule, I can't use it until I get to a gym wth level 40+ Pokémon.)-

So the next gym is fighting, and since my only flying pokemon (Pidgey, Togetic) are also normal types, I have to level my Slowpoke and Drowzee. Yay grinding.-

IIRC gyms are a bit tough in Emerald if you don't get solid pokemon quickly enough.
(EDIT: Like, Brawly is a complete bitch if you haven't been fortunate enough to get a good psychic pokemon to carry you through the fight.)-

I've tightened my level restriction slightly. Rather than trying to explain, I'll just illustrate w/the example I used for Chuck.
He has one pokemon at lvl 29, and one at lvl 31.
Thus, I let myself train one pokemon to 31, and one to 29, and the rest had to be 28 or under. (EDIT: That said, I actually rought him with no pokemon above 29, because Slowpoke/Hypno just kind of wrecked the gym, but that would been my level restriction had I wanted to keep training up.)-

Yeah I don't think I've ever finished a R/S/E nuzlocke because of Norman. In post 784, SleepyKrew wrote:I've quit so many Nuzlocke runs because of Norman-

Oof. I was worried about Jasmine, but her Magenmites and Steelix turned out to be pushovers. I taught my Dratini Flamethrower which has nicely filled in for my lack of fire Pokemon. Once he eventually becomes a Dragonite, I can teach it fly, drop Togetic, and start rocking out with Umbreon full time.-

Gahhhhh Omelette (Togetic) just got fucked in Team Rocket HQ. Now I have to use Pidgey until I can get my Dragonite.-

Oh god, the Team Rocket leader's Houndoom just wrecked my Magneton because apparently it knew Fire Fang and critted me. Thankfully, I still have two other very capable electric types, but I'm going to miss that durability from having a steel type in my party.-

I'm tempted to Wonderlocke in Pokemon X. (Basically same rules, but immediately after you catch or recieve a pokemon, you must Wonder Trade it away and play with whatever you get in return.)
