How extremely funny that you mentioned this. :P

What I'm entering is coincidentally from a FIFA game, but that's not why I'm entering it, I'm a fan of the band and two of the songs from this band had already been entered.

Eh. Pre-emptively giving it no points then. Multiple entries from the same band will hurt the contest overall.

Also giving no points to any Pain of Salvation entry.

Dammit JD. Your position in the Top 5 only means you only like incredibly marketable and/or mainstream music. My shitty record means I am a
pure
music listener who likes universally despised (and therefore awesome) "music".

In post 190, Amrun wrote:Oh today I found out my friend now listens to only "post-hardcore." She can't even explain what it is.

Sounds like she might not know what it is.

Following the emergence of Punk Rock in the late 70s, bands began to expand upon its aesthetic of 'loud, hard, and fast' musical and vocal technique. Mixing together elements of their forebearers from Hardcore Punk (largely Black Flag and Dead Kennedys), Experimental Rock bands like The Velvet Underground and The Residents, with a helping of the sounds of its close cousins in Noise Rock and Emo, Post-Hardcore has undergone a continual expansion and shifting in what constitutes its musical identity.

Post-Hardcore can be considered to have begun in earnest in the Mid-80s. These bands were based on Hardcore Punk's aggression and dynamics, but many of them expanded it through longer and more complex arrangements with an ebb and flow of building tension and release both in the music and vocals. Notable bands of this early era are Big Black, Hüsker Dü, and Minutemen.

Soon after, a second wave of Post-Hardcore emerged. In addition to the traditional influences, this owed an equal debt to the addition of Post-Punk bands like Television and Wire, with a sprinkling of Dub, Funk, or Jazz-Rock. Some bands, Fugazi for instance, have straddled both styles.

Post-Hardcore today encompasses both of these previous incarnations, and has incorporated what can be considered a third-wave set of artists who took cues from first-wave bands, and added an aggressive mix with Emo, known as Screamo. Envy and Off Minor are good examples of this style.

post-grungePost-grunge is a derivative of Grunge that emerged in the mid-1990s with bands such as Live, Bush, and Foo Fighters. Although it adopted the vocal style, angsty lyrics, and "dirty" guitar sound of grunge, the songwriting placed more emphasis on creating a commercially acceptable sound. It therefore downplayed the more noisy and abrasive elements of the genre and emphasized pop hooks and more conventional song structures. It became one of the leading popular music genres from the mid-90s to the mid-00s, particularly following the death of Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain in 1994. In the late '90s and early '00s, the genre reached its peak in popularity with the rise of such bands as Creed and Nickelback.

Unless you plan to fix it to a video game song. In which case you should just cancel your entry altogether.

And destroy your iPod and delete all your music. Snap your CDs. Stomp your tapes. Crush your 8-Track. Drown your MiniDisc. Melt your vinyl.

Then brainwash yourself and forget video games even exist.

I've never heard of Heart.

(EDIT: This post brought to you by CDB, the Universal Barometer of Mainstream.)

Wikipedia wrote:Over their four-decade career, Heart has had chart successes with songs in genres ranging from hard rock and metal to folk rock. To date, Heart has sold over 30 million records worldwide. Heart was ranked #57 on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock".

Belgium - Pokemon Black/White - Zzzzzzzz....
Bhutan - Final Fantasy - CN Tower is a much better song.
Brazil - Ko Otani - Zzzzzzzzzzzzz........
Canada - Kansas - Hey look! Either someone hangs out in a dive bar playing the jukebox and has no idea that newer music exists or they are busking for easy cheap points
Chile - Placebo - Ugh. This song is so over-played that I actually enjoy a live version of it less because it doesn't sound exactly how I expect it to, thus making it jarring.
Denmark - BT - This song is utterly devoid of emotion. BT mind as well be singing about his grocery list instead of random quotations from select "Sorry We're Breaking Up!" Hallmark cards. BONUS: YouTube thinks that I should listen to the Nazi German Anthem after listening to this.
England - Angel Cascarino - Hmm.. I appreciate what you've put up and I think that if you could have benefited from the same production and engineering that most of the rest of these songs benefit from, you'd be right up there.
Finland - Something A La Mode - Innovative. Mixing the pretentiousness of baroque with the obnoxiousness of phat beatz.
France - Future of the Left - Damn. Simple, dumb, & catchy. You win this round, JD.
Germany - Marina and the Diamonds - Ugh. I hate when people troll these contests.
Guatemala - My Chemical Romance - Why are they so angry at me? Why are they trying to hurt me ears?
Ireland - Damien Rice - Seems like he would apologized if you actually noticed his music playing.
Israel - Unknown Mortal Orchestra - 9823754
italy - No Doubt - "Hey ska always does well in these contests.. Isn't No Doubt considered a ska band for some retarded reason?"
Laos - Them Crooked Vultures - I want to hate this for being SO MAINSTREAM.. but it's Queens of the Stone Age + Led Zep, so it's awesome.
Macedonia - The Format - I get it. They're pre-ruining their songs before Glee can get to them.
Mali - Afro Celt Sound System - Typical celtic roundy-round dancing music.
Palestine - The Heavy - KIA MAKES SHITTY CARS.
Peru - Motion City Soundtrack - Songs about first crushes are so emo.
Scotland - Sixpence None The Richer - TROLLED!
Swaziland - Martha Argerich - pretentious.
Sweden - Cloudkicker - hate, etc...
Switzerland - Holy Fuck - Why dit start at 20 secs?
Tristan da Cunha - Matt Uelmen - Hey, it's sonic wallpaper.
Turkey - Heart - Big bag of meh.
Vatican City - ZZ Top - I got denied entry into this contest and you didn't even bother to try to find something good and original? You're worse than the video game nerds.

Eh, I put hateful/sarcastic comments on everyone because that's how I preen.

But I did narrow it down to 10 vote-getters in just the first listen-through... which is a record, I think.

Now I just have to decide on an order.

If you were that curious you could have just started from the beginning of the video and realized the song didn't start until the 20 second mark, so I linked to that to save everyone some time.

Yeah, I checked back and I figured out the reason.. I guess I was angered at the idea that someone was being respectful and considerate. Caught me totally off-guard.

There's nothing wrong with classical music, I feel it's a pretentious thing to enter into the song contest. I've made it clear that I will never give any points to any classical piece or video game music (or klezmer). If people insist on continuing to enter such music then they give up their right to act all pissy about it.

And there's definitely nothing wrong with jazz music. I love jazz. More jazz should be entered.

MetalcoreA combination of Hardcore Punk and Metal that began to take shape during the mid 1990s. What differentiates Metalcore from other combinations of Metal and Hardcore Punk, such as Crossover Thrash, is the emphasis on breakdowns and greater use of dissonance.

This term is used to describe the style of the 'first wave' of Metalcore bands which shared their Hardcore Punk and Metal influences fairly equally such as Integrity and Earth Crisis. Converge continues to play this style.

The Metalcore bands from the early and mid 00s that brought the genre to a more mainstream audience are said instead to play Melodic Metalcore, because of the increased influence of Melodic Death Metal and frequent use of clean vocals.
