This challenge will be played live, but only one player per tribe is strictly necessary. We'll be playing a deceptively simple game called Smuggles 'N Snuggles. Here's how it works.
Each tribe begins with 8 cards, 4 face up and 4 face down, arranged on a 3x5 board. Each tribe has one card representing each number from 1 to 8. On most turns, you will move 2 different cards. The only turn that will not have 2 different cards moved is the first turn where the player who goes first moves only 1 card. All cards may move one space in any direction, including diagonals. Each card may also move through allied cards with higher values than theirs, potentially allowing for further moves than otherwise possible.
Cards may move into empty spaces or into spaces that contain cards with lower or equal values. This includes opposing cards, which are "captured" if you move on top of them. This just means they cannot move until the capturing card moves off the space and frees them. You cannot move into a space occupied by a higher opposing card.
Essentially, lower-value cards are better at moving and can be chain-moved long distances, but higher-value cards are stronger and can more easily capture opposing cards.
Face down cards cannot be looked at and are revealed when no other cards share their space. The starting positions of all cards is random, though the layout is always the same.
The goal of the game is to score three points. You score a point by moving your card into the opponent's three end-zone spaces. Once you do this, the card moved into the end zone is out of play, and that space is no longer valid for scoring (so essentially, you must put one card in each of the three end-zone spaces). You cannot move any cards into end-zone spaces where you have already scored.
This may sound complicated, but it honestly isn't at all. You can practice
here, which will probably be way more helpful than reading this post. Just make sure the account name you sign up with does not ID you. You don't need to enter a real email address.
The game will be played in this thread. On your turn, your tribe will have 3 minutes to post a move in bold. (Your turn begins when a mod posts the updated board.) Format your move so that it is clear what card you wish to move and where you wish to move it, e.g.:
Move 4 southeast, move 3 west. There are no particular rules about how to format this, as long as the mods can understand what you're asking for. Then, we will post the new board and the other team will go. At the beginning of the game, you don't need to make both your moves simultaneously; if you make a move that reveals a face down card, we will post the updated board and you can factor the new information into your second move. If you are not making a move that reveals a face down card, or you do not care what the face down card is, make both your moves at once.
This will be a best of 3 games. We will begin in 22 hours, unless either tribe strenuously objects to that time. The mods will provide each tribe a Chatzy for strategy discussion during the game.
