This post outlines the possible game setups:

Newbie games are played with 7 people. Of these people, 2 are evil, the Mafia. It is the town's goal to rid themselves of Mafia, and vice versa.
Here are the possible ways roles may be distributed:
<> 3 Townspeople, 1 Doctor, 1 Cop, and 2 Mafia <>
<> 4 Townspeople, 1 Cop, and 2 Mafia <>
<> 4 Townspeople, 1 Doctor, and 2 Mafia <>
<> 5 Townspeople and 2 Mafia <>

ROLES

Please familiarize youself with these roles. The following are basic mafia roles which may or may not be in this game.

You are the mafia.
You may only talk with each other during the game's "night," not during the "day." (You may also communicate pre-game, once you have confirmed receiving your role to the mod.) You let me know before the night's deadline who will be your victim. You win the game when all the other players are dead.

You are the cop.
Every "night" before the deadline you send me a PM with a name of your choice, and I will let you know whether that player is mafia or not. You are not allowed to communicate with any of the other players outside the thread. You win the game when the mafia are dead.

You are the doctor.
Every "night" before the deadline you send me a PM with a name of your choice, and that player cannot die if attacked by the mafia that night. You cannot heal yourself. You are not allowed to communicate with any of the other players outside the thread. You win the game when the mafia are dead.

You are a townie.
You are not allowed to communicate with any of the other players outside the thread. You win the game when the mafia are dead.

Note:
in view of the number of players and set-up, we will start in the day phase, although most larger games start with a night. The mafia will be allowed to communicate pre-game, though no role will submit night choices until Day 1 is over.

The Rules!:

1. Votes must be in bold. If you do not bold your vote it will not count.
(Please unvote in bold (using the player name) before casting a new vote.)

2. A lynch requires that one player has votes from more than half of the current players. Once the player has the required number of votes the lynch is inevitable and unvoting will have no effect.

3. You may vote for a "no lynch". A vote of this kind from more than half of the current players is required to end the day.

4. Do not discuss this game outside of this thread, unless your role or a PM from me says that you may do so. This continues to apply after you die and until the game is over.

5. Only live players may post in this game.

6. Do not edit or delete any of your submitted posts.

7. Do not quote your role or any other PMs from me, unless it has been publicly revealed by me already. (You may quote your role name. That is all.)

8. If you have a night choice, it is due before the posted deadline. If your choice is not submitted to me by this time, no choice will be made.

9. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than 48 hours, please post a notification in this thread. Please treat this game as a commitment to the other players and contribute regularly.

10. Play to win and give it your best! Please do your part to make the game enjoyable for everyone. Personal insults and/or abuse of other players will not be tolerated.

11. If you have any questions, PM me! I may or may not respond to questions in the thread, but I will certainly reply to any PMs.

All confirmations are in!

But I decided that I will wait just a little longer to start the day, to make sure that the mafia have had a chance to confer.

unvote milkshake

I'm not suspicious yet, but I want to avoid a speed lynch at this point.

Sure, Arafax. We believe you. No, really. That wasn't just a scummy piece of scumful scumness.

I mean, not liking milkshakes... what is this. Lynch him!

--

In other news, this game has seven players not including the mod, eight including the mod, and, according to here: http://www.eblong.com/zarf/werewolf-stats.html the odds aren't fair at all!
8 players: humans win 0.083
Fortunately, that statistic is if lynching is random. Therefore, thou shalt not random vote milkshake!

And you're calling me scummy Milkshake???...bigAl, you're either not serious yet or you're scum...It's too early to say, but putting the 2nd vote asap on people might not be scummy, but it's not exactly a good town move.

Arafax, you seem especially on your toes this game. Yes, this is a mini d1, which means it will only take 4 to lynch, but I seriously doubt any scum will have the cajones to try to speedlynch anyone, as they would just be lynched d2.

Trying to spread out the random votes ruins the point of random voting- to create discussion. I think it actually
could
be considered a good town move as it creates more discussion.

I'll hold my vote for now though. Arafax, I don't see your uptightness as scummy... yet.

That's great, but when D2 comes if the doc (that is if we have one) doesn't save in the night, D2 becomes lynch or lose....Am I correct?

I don't like those odds...And it does happen, just check out Newbie #205

And speedlynching D1 can lose the town the game as we all saw in Newbie #205.

*shrug* Speedlynching doesn't/shouldn't happen if the town is smart. Two votes aren't that much.

Keeping my vote here for now.

You are, as long as we whiff on the lynch today. And I agree that it's not a great position to be in. Basically, if we hit two lynches on scum we win, if we hit two on town they win.

That said, like bigAl said - two votes isn't that much of a risk. If the two scum want to jump on whatever wagon they can to lynch as fast as possible day one, let them. It just makes it that much easier to figure out who they are day 2 :)

Heh, well Aelyn, if we hit one townie, and then hit one scum, we better get the third one right or we lose (and there will be three people, so unless one of them always bandwagoned and the other didn't, we have a not-so-hot chance of hitting a friendly.)

On another not-often-considered hand, if we don't lynch on day one, we will have more information and fewer wrong targets on day two. That site that I quoted before says that town has a 13.3% chance with one less person (compared to 8.3& chance if we lynch off the bat.) And that, of course, doesn't include that we'll have more information.

Numbers aside, though, it's good to hit mafia on day one. I hereby question Arafax further: isn't three votes usually considered a risk but two votes isn't really?

Two votes become a risk if Al and I are both town. Since I know I am town, if Al is town, I feel that I am in a very risky situation right now.
I also thought milkshake was potentially in a risky situation as well (if he and Al are both town, of course) which is why I unvoted.

The problem with no lynching, Milkshake, is that we actually
won't
have more information afterwards, because no one would have been lynched. This is why it is
always
a good idea to lynch except in very special cases.

Arafax, your fear of quicklynch is very interesting.

If
scum quick-lynch you, they will be considered
very
tomorrow. Townies should have no reason to quck-lynch, ergo quick lynchers should be scum. Scum have no real reason to quick lynch D1, since they would paint an obvious target on themselves.

If a no-lynch today, then we would have to count on either doc protection or lynching correctly tomorrow. If we lynch someone today, then we have approx 2/7 chance of lynching scum, and a 5/7 chance of practically the same result as a no lynch.

bacde: a fear of quick-lynches isn't interesting, much less scummy;the thing about n00b games is that play is incredibly fast and it's do or die in town victory. i personally don't like quick-lynches, especially in n00bs for just those reasons.

(i'm replacing Akonas, by the way)

I think it's a little suspicious, but I don't think bigAl would vote for Arafax in an attempt to speedlynch him if he's scum, since there would still need to be another vote plus other scum.
