Fucking trashed my game on Trainer's School and Magnemite. Is there an agreed on list of where you can capture mons in the new one, because the way I'd counted segments, it's just Route 1 to that point so I had Poplio and a fucking Pecky pecker .

I just used pokemon location.

I added event pokemon if they were equal or lower to my party and if I got them in a location that hasn't been used yet.

Difficult: The top line for the name of a location (which you can see whenever you enter that area, save, or check where a Pokemon was caught) is the determining factor; Hau'oli Outskirts is still part of Route 1, but Ten Carat Hill is a new encounter.

Much More Manageable: The second line for the name of a location (which you can see whenever you enter that area) indicates a new area; Hau'Oli Outskirts and Farthest Hallow are separate areas from Route 1 and Ten Carat Hill, respectively.

Not Sure Where Else This Even Applies: Areas listed as a subsection on the map count as new areas, even if the name of the location doesn't change; the Trainers' School is a separate area from Route 1 or the Hau'oli Outskirts.

EZPZ Baby Mode: Since different patches of grass have different encounters, look up all the different encounter areas and make each one count separately; Route 1 proper (meaning only areas where the name is just Route 1 without a second line or subsection) has four different areas.

I accept gift pokemon freely though (yes, the munchlax, and it died anyway)

Currently doing it, but haven't played in a while.

I picked Litten, which in retrospect has been A REALLY GOOD CHOICE based on how you guys all describe the trainer school magnemite (although I also had a magnemite at that point)

I did X/Y blind with 0 casualties, ftr.

I'm a bit past the Wishiwashi Totem battle with 2 casualties so far - one on the Trainer School grimer and one against the first chief dude.

I think I used the munchlax to get past the magnemite.
