The Pokemon Nuzlocke Thread

This forum is specifically for discussing non-Mafia games
(board, card, video, we're not picky)
.
Playing
such games should happen in the Mish Mash forum, of course.

Just got Sun.

Time to sight-Nuzlocke. May make an exception to the 1-catch rule for Rare Bone if I end up with a cubone.

How does the nuzlocke rule apply to SOS battles? Do you choose which you cna catch?

At island 3 past ghost lady, my dead to alive ratio is

14 dead and 19 alive. Doing better than other runs.

There were a few random "wow I could really wipe here" spots randomly in the first few hours that I played last night, which was surprising.

Also the game doesn't do as clear of a job defining routes/zones as previous games, so you have to play that by ear a bit.

refresh feels like cheating

Crazy: Subsections on the map are not new areas; Ten Carat Hill is part of Route 1 and as such isn't a new encounter.

Difficult: The top line for the name of a location (which you can see whenever you enter that area, save, or check where a Pokemon was caught) is the determining factor; Hau'oli Outskirts is still part of Route 1, but Ten Carat Hill is a new encounter.

Much More Manageable: The second line for the name of a location (which you can see whenever you enter that area) indicates a new area; Hau'Oli Outskirts and Farthest Hallow are separate areas from Route 1 and Ten Carat Hill, respectively.

Not Sure Where Else This Even Applies: Areas listed as a subsection on the map count as new areas, even if the name of the location doesn't change; the Trainers' School is a separate area from Route 1 or the Hau'oli Outskirts.

EZPZ Baby Mode: Since different patches of grass have different encounters, look up all the different encounter areas and make each one count separately; Route 1 proper (meaning only areas where the name is just Route 1 without a second line or subsection) has four different areas.

About to start my Moon run. Dropping my rule against using items in-battle. I think I'm gonna go with Route 1, Hau'oli Outskirts, and the Trainers' School being three separate encounters. No Z Crystals, of course.

I keep it fairly vanilla except for a dups clause and an OMG Shiny clause.

I define a new route as location change and the location listed on the pokemon.

This is how I'm doing it, since it most-closely mirrors how previous games would have defined it, I feel.

Poplio is a great starter. Evolution still going strong and forms the core of my team with that dancing bird and mudhorse.

Well I have now lost both my birds.

Also having firecat starter and alolan meowth is probably bad long-term, but for now I don't really have anything better. Also Gengar-Line is probably bad because can't get Gengar w/o trading.

Right now my main guys are Litten (w/e he evolved into)/magnemite/meowth/cottonee. I lost my toucan-line dude to Hala, sadly, and I already have lost a wingull. I do have a spearow for fly later down the road, but I have no interest in training him up.

I need a water type >.>
