Oh God, My Haunted Mansion - Bloodbath

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue Jan 27, 2009 9:42 am

HOW TO PLAY

Alignments -
To put things in mafia terms, there is an uninformed majority, whose win condition looks like this:
You win if you survive.
And there is at least one informed minority, who's win condition looks like this:
You win when everyone not in {INFORMED MINORITY GROUP NAME HERE} has been killed.
There may or may not be a second informed minority, who's win condition looks like this:
You win when everyone in {INFORMED MINORITY GROUP NAME HERE} has been killed.
There may or may not be third party roles with win conditions like the examples, or with win conditions totally unlike anything you've ever seen before. Play to fulfill the win condition you have received.

Phases -
This game progresses in two phases: movement, and bloodbath. Each movement phase will have a deadline of
one week
and each bloodbath will have a deadline of
three days
.

Movement Phase
- You may move through up to three adjacent rooms during any movement phase. Climbing a ladder/flight of stairs/laundry chute does not use up any more of your allotted movement than stepping through a normal doorway would. Once you have moved through three rooms, you will not be able to move again until the following movement phase.

Bloodbath Phase
- In the bloodbath phase, you will have the option to SEARCH, ATTACK, USE ABILITY, USE ITEM or HIDE.

Searching
- As a corollary to searching, you may be able to search specific features of a room or area. For example, you may attempt to SEARCH FOUNTAIN or SEARCH WARDROBE, and if that is an option you will do so. If not, you will simply search the room as normal and won't be penalized for trying. If you find anything of note you will be able to interact with it. The ways you may interact will be described in your search results. Some examples from this game are TAKE ITEM, PULL LEVER and FEED GOLDFISH.

Abilities -
Are granted by your role or may be gained as the game progresses. They will be described by PM.

Items -
Are granted by your role or may be gained as the game progresses. They will be described by PM.

Health -
Every player starts with 15 HP.

Damage -
There are three types of damage in this game: Physical, Fire and Cold.

Other Stuff -
You will not know what is going on in any room you aren't in during a bloodbath phase, though player status will be updated so you may be able to infer some things.

Fair Warning -
This is a Haunted MansionTM game. Anything and everything, from BOOBY TRAPS to SANITY-JARRING ENCOUNTERS WITH ELDER GODS is possible. If you lose and don't think the game was fair, it probably wasn't. Just try to have some fun.

Disclaimer
- I probably forgot something, so these rules might get updated/edited at any time, and for any reason. I may or may not let you know if that happens. Pay attention.

DON'T EDIT/DELETE YOUR POSTS KTHX

ACTIVITY:
If you haven't used up your movement are not active for 48 hours, I'll poke you. If you don't respond to the poke within another 48 hours, you'll get replaced. If you fail to submit a bloodbath phase action ever within the deadline, you'll just get replaced, no poking.

LOCATIONS DISCOVERED

COURTYARD
: The courtyard is a wide, walled expanse, covered in a light dusting of snow, with the manor house sitting right in the center. There is a POND on one side of the house and a GARDEN on the other. There is a great gate in the walls that surround the complex, with a GUARDHOUSE. The manor house may be entered through the front doors, which lead to the GREAT HALL, or through the accessway into the CELLAR.

GUARDHOUSE
: A small room with bunk beds for the two guards whose duty it used to be to keep this place safe. They didn't do such a hot job, obviously. One of them is dead in his bunk, a rotten corpse now. The other is nowhere to be found. From here you can reach the GUARDHOUSE ARMORY, but the door is locked. You may also go to the COURTYARD.

POND
: This pond is a lot bigger than it looked. Its surrounded by rushes and cattails, and there's an ISLAND out in the middle. The water is coated with a very thin layer of ice. From here you can go to the COURTYARD.

CELLAR
: This low ceilinged room is thick with cobwebs. The light from the accessway shines onto the door of the BOTTLERY. You can also go to the COURTYARD. While fully lit, you can see that the room is quite long, ending in solid stone walls and the locked door to the DUNGEON. Hanging in the center of the room from a meathook is what looks like the mutilated body of a guard. Nasty.

BOTTLERY
: The sweet smell of grapes and long, shining rows of aging wines. Whoever lived here had very good taste. The room is lit in a soft glow by a lantern hanging from the low ceiling. From here you can go to the CELLAR.

GREAT HALL
: This enormous room houses a long dining table, at the far end of which is a raised dais where the ruling family once sat for meals, lording over the common folk. The ceiling is vaulted, and colorful tapestries depicting ancient battles line the walls. The stairs along the back wall rise to the second floor MEZZANINE, and there is a door next to them leading to the THRONE ROOM. You may also exit the building, leading to the COURTYARD.

MEZZANINE
: This wide open hall overlooks the GREAT HALL below, and provides access to the LORD'S CHAMBER, the LADY'S CHAMBER, the LIBRARY and the CHAPEL.

THRONE ROOM
: Two rusted suits of armor stand on pedestals either side of the massive, empty throne. Behind the throne are the doors to the TREASURY and to the DUNGEON, both locked.

GARDEN
: My, what lovely floral arrangements! There is a great marble fountain in the center, though the water is frozen in this weather. From here you can enter the HEDGE MAZE or go to the COURTYARD.

ISLAND
: This small patch of land in the pond has a few ancient oaks, and in the center you can enter a gated private CEMETERY. There's a rowboat on the shore which could transport one person to the POND.

DUNGEON
: A long row of dark, locked cells, with various instruments of torture. From here you can reach the CELLAR or go up a flight of stairs to the THRONE ROOM, but both doors are locked.

LADY'S CHAMBER
: An opulent bedroom complete with the quintessential four-poster at its center. There are several freestanding wardrobes and a private writing desk underneath a huge window which overlooks the garden. The last remnants of daylight stream through it. From here you can go to the MEZZANINE.

CHAPEL
: In the center of this austere room is an altar, and hanging on the wall above it is a very severe looking carving of Jesus on the cross. The room is well lit by two large, expensive stained glass windows. From here you can go to the MEZZANINE.

You all stand in the vast COURTYARD before the manor house.

Please be sure to read the rules before you do anything. These rules are not identical to those used in previous HM games. Specifically, look at the movement rules before you try to move. Thanks.

Movement Phase 1 will end in one week, or when everyone is out of movement (or announces in thread they are done moving), whichever comes first.

THAT'S what you were looking for? I doubt it's a usable item.

But my character background says to go there...

hmm, so this is basically a mafia group, with a lot of vig's and you can't die in one shot?

I'll move to the mezzanine
if I can...
