I am the Avatar. I have mastery over all four elements!

I also act like a twelve-year-old sometimes.

Steam is the intersection of water and air

This may not make complete sense at first, but the classical elements are further broken down into hot/cold and dry/wet

Air is hot/wet
Fire is hot/dry
Water is cold/wet
Earth is cold/dry

So the intersection of water and air is evaporated warm water, steam
that actually does make sense to an extent...
Mud
the combination of
Water
&
Earth
is both wet & dry/cold
Lava
is not as hot as
Fire
, but not as cold as
Earth
, but it's still dry (?) {maybe a better title would be
Ash
to complete the analogy?.. not sure Lava is the best 'element' to use here}

following that logic,
Steam
would be the intersection of
Air
&
Fire
as it's definitely hot, and both wet & dry...
it's certainly hotter than
Air
, so i'm not sure
Steam
works in the
Air
/
Water
analogy...
not sure what would be a good suggestion for the intersection of
Air
&
Water
following the analogy, though... :?
*edit*
maybe
Cloud
? it's definitely 'wet', and it's both hot & cold (sorta)

what is the intersection of
Air
&
Fire
?..
what is the intersection of all the elements?..

Air + Water = Bubble
Air + Fire = Smoke (someone else posted this, and I think it's good)

also seeing as the elements are the base components of the universe and life, you could say the intersection of all of them is life, or the universe, (or everything)

The Greeks who came up with the four classical elements called it "idea" though

actually the intersection of fire/earth is magma which is hot

so the intersection of air/water must be something cold

on top of the hot/cold/dry/wet thing, each element has a primary attribute and a secondary one

* Air is primarily wet and secondarily hot.
* Fire is primarily hot and secondarily dry.
* Earth is primarily dry and secondarily cold.
* Water is primarily cold and secondarily wet.

so my proposition is that the intersection of air and water is ICE

Not that anyone cares but I'm Earth.

And it's quite obvious that the intersection of all four elements is Baked Alaska. I don't know why it took so long for someone to finally post the solution.

not sure that works though, as ICE is just Water hardened... doesn't really have anything to do w/ Air... the other three are mixtures (to some extent), and i don't really think of ICE as being a mixture of water & air...

*edit*
this is a fine line, but i think this might be better off in GD, though i understand it originally being created here...

Air also represents high altitudes and the weather, so ice ties into snow/blizzards/icy mountaintops

Air+Water = Fog?

For there to be fog, iirc my basic earth science, the temperature drops to a point that the air can no longer contain the moisture within it...its been so long since this mattered to me (haven't done HVAC for ~7 years) that I know I'm skipping/forgetting/misstating
something

I'd substitute "listen to you" for "take you seriously" in the second part. Emotional Jokers seem to want to be
believed
, not taken seriously.

Air + Water = Mist? Actually, ssf's Bubble captures the "Not Serious About Anything" aspect of it pretty well...

personally I favoured a more statistical approach to this for SA rather than just guessing

you would rate each player very serious/serious/unserious/very unserious and very calm/calm/emotional/very emotional and then place them according to their average rating

The problem with the joining of Air and Water is that Air already has water in it. If you wanted Air with extra water you could go with Steam, Fog, or Clouds. I would argue that steam is actually water in its gaseous phase so not really Air. Thus I would go with Fog or Clouds to represent this juncture. Since everything else is based on a natural substance and not object, I would argue that Fog fits the bill better than clouds do. However, this mix is supposed to represent Not Serious but neither Calm nor Emotional. I find fog very serious where clouds are very not serious. Therefore I propose Clouds for the joining of Water and Air.

I agree with use of Mud for the joining of Water and Earth, not really much else that makes sense here.

While I find Lava a bit too specific for the joining of Fire and Earth, I can't offer a simpler phrase. Molten Rock would be my choice, but lava is pretty much the same and simpler.

The trickiest to me would be the joining of Air and Fire. Fire is consumes air. Without Air the fire dies thus they come pre-mixed. I would posit Firestorm as the mixture of Air and Fire. This is when a fire draws in so much surrounding air rather quickly. This jet stream can then propel the fire in an erratic and unpredictable manner. Since the player we wish to describe is purely emotional, I think this fits well with the idea of a Firestorm.

For the center point, I think it's naming depends very much on your interpretation of what the center means. If you think it means that such a person is everything, then you would want a substance representing Fire Air Earth and Water. For that definition I posit Pyroclastic Flow.
Wikipedia wrote: A pyroclastic flow (also known as a pyroclastic density current) is a common and devastating result of some volcanic eruptions. The flows are fast-moving currents of hot gas, ash, and rock (collectively known as tephra), which can travel away from the volcano at up to 700 km/h. The gas can reach temperatures of up to 1000 degrees Celsius. The flows normally hug the ground and travel downhill, or spread laterally under gravity. Their speed depends upon the density of the current, the rate volcanic output, and the gradient of the slope.
I would argue that has elements of Fire from the heat and the fact that everything in its path is burnt, Earth do the the rock debris and ash, Air because it is a cloud and Water due to the hot gases.

However, I feel the center point actually represents the absence of any element. I would suggest we call this Void, Ether or Nothing.

Other cultures have called it Aether or Ether, Void, Sky, Heaven, Space, Quintessance and Idea. At least that's what Wikipedia told me.

That was way more than I wanted to say about this topic.

call fire/earth magma instead

or maybe even metal (you smelt ores from the earth to make metal)

Bah, I'm still posting in my games, but Friday's are usually slow. I did promise a content laden post this afternoon for one of my mini's which this has likely cut into. I'd say 13.7
