So, it's clear that what we should do is choose one person we all defect at, and the rest of us choose cooperate.

We should all cooperate, all of us naming (random name) as our target. Then, next round, we all name someone else. The cycle should continue like this, and we won't be able to lose.

Anybody who targets either of them will get damage redirected. They both can't betray each other on the same turn as the Top Dog thing is an action, but anyone who betrays either of them will get the effect.

Now's a better time for the 24-hour limits for me personally, and discussion 1 dosen't have much more to give, so...

Starting Action Phase

Send in your actions now; Co-Operate, Defect (Player), or Manipulate.

Prodding Guzame for the next phase.

Starting Reveal Phase 2

Action Phase 1 Results:

After interrogation,
Tamuz
and
Korran
break under the pressure. They finally 'admit' to having seen their fellow convict,
Mokina
steal the carpet and wallpaper of a new house. Apparently.
Mokina has lost 3 HP

Someone else thinks differently, however.
blahgo
decides to fend for himself and says
Korran
stole the wallpaper/carpet. You can't find these furnishings anywhere else, you know. However, Korran has had his sentence reduced due to his honesty.
Korran has lost 1 HP

Finally,
JDodge
has the last word. Dismayed at the 1HP loss of his closest friend, he backstabs blahgo. The prison now believes this was a joint-heist of Mokina, Korran and blahgo.
blahgo has lost 1 HP

All the other convicts, however, have co-operated.
All Co-Operators (Save Mokina) have gained 2HP

Second Charge:
Tax Evasion

Gain 1 HP if you Co-Operate, and are not defected against
Gain 0 HP if you Defect, and are not defected against
Lose 1 HP if you Defect, and are defected against
Lose 2 HP if you Co-Operate, and are defected against

Starting Discussion Phase 2

Only 1 hp gained if you Co-operate?
Co-operating seems like a big risk with little payout this turn,so I expect a lot of defecting this time.

Not quite. Keep in mind that cooperation is going to eventually become +0 or even negative as the game gets harsher.

By the way, of the people who cooperated last round, who wants to help hammer the first-round defectors? Send me a PM if you don't want to publicize your intents.

I misread the rules. My posts about cooperating and targetting someone were because I thought that coop required a target as well.

Defecting is only a good idea when the payoff for defecting and not being defected against is bigger than the payoff for co-operating and not being defected against, which it currently is not.

Co-operation FTW.

Of course, as you have seen... making a big deal about the fact that you're cooperating next time is a bad idea. :)

People need to trust each other a little more...

Hey, I made it clear from the start of Round 1 that I was co-operating, and I've kept to my word.

Round 2, I have said that I'm co-operating, and I will, because defecting cannot gain me anything.

Cooperating can't win and end the game Mokina.

I feel your strategy and push towards a full game of cooperation is both detrimental and not the best strategy, that is why I targetted you.

By the way, you are a hypocrite now, on one side you are pushing for everyone to cooperate because it is "better" on the other you want someone to not cooperate, and to sacrifice their potential game in order to get revenge. I can understand yer personal vendetta, but to be so hypocritical in expanding its call.

I'm not pushing for full cooperation... no, in fact I've brought up immediate counter-defection as a preventative measure.

Also... your accusation of hypocrisy seems a little contrived and incoherent. Please expand your argument here... I'm not quite sure I know who you're referring to.

The biggest part of a winning strategy in this game is adaptability. Obviously we don't know yet what future rounds will be, so I think the best we can do it play the current round and worry about future rounds, well, in the future.

The only mark for considering the future is the possibility of retribution. Those who betray players constantly are likely to be betrayed against, knocking them from the game. But those who constantly cooperate and build a huge lead are likely to be teamed up against.

In the end, the best thing I can think to do is to try and ride the middle ground, as it were.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

Every player has the possibility of constantly defecting against one player, and thus knocking them both out of the game. That's some food for thought...I don't know how exactly it will play out. I just know for now that if you defect on someone and they end up having more life than you, that person can defect on you every turn and kill you before you can kill them defecting on them every turn.

Was what I said that retarded?

Also, here is my policy: Defect against me, and I will defect against you for the next two rounds. Defect against me twice, and I will defect against you for the next four rounds. Etc.
