I can't believe how much people are willing to pay for the Overwatch league. It does have a good structure that I imagine investors would find attractive, but the game itself faces serious headwind.

I just wonder if it's not a mistake to chase after something where the demand is artificially created. I think there's a good chance we'll get XFL-like post mortems in 10 years.

I dunno how the OWL succeeds.

No metrics I've seen to back up the investment.

The eyeballs aren't there, there hasnt been any reason to think they'll be there.

The action is difficult to follow by and large(tbf its gotten better throughout, but I'm not sure if it'll ever get 'good' enough)

It was because IMT planned on advertising people to watch them in LA at their home games, which is a direct overlap with people who would go watch LCS.

i never got the sense that LCS was primarily a spectator driven thing but rather viewers. Otherwise, why did Riot decide to do two venues (for dual streams) with one of them seating like... 80 people.

ESPN updated the article to be like "riot says immortals operates at a huge loss" and "immortals says we are no different than any other lcs team in that aspect and we all had to seek investors, which we did and are backed by lionsgate"

They got rekt. Cuvee basically went even with khan, crown dominated bdd, and they put a lot of resources into smashing pray. They also brought out a lissandra in the clutch. Also LZ got cocky g1 trying to force Cuvee out of his pool by going blind jax, didn't really work.
