Carried the scumteam to a perfect victory with goon/goon/RB against VTx5/Cop/Tracker/Backup Tracker/1-shot Watcher/Day 3 Vig/Neighborizer in a game in which nearly all the Towns were objectively obvtown by just pocketing the entire game and having basically perfect NAs. Scumteam was on the brink of complete disaster the entire game and RC just out-manipulated everyone and strongarmed lynch after lynch on confirmable TPRs WHILE convincing them not to lynch the confirmed scum TWO DAYS IN A ROW INCLUDING MYLO, I don't even honestly know how it happened, it was fucking magic to watch.

If there's a "best town group" nom, I'd say that it potentially deserves a nom. But the setup was unbalanced and the scum team not that good. Wasn't actually a very good game *shrugs*
(I'd also say the occasional bursts of toxicity takes away from "best game" as a deserving nom but YMMV)

Just to validate your opinion as not being one coming from biased scum, I agree the setup wasn't balanced. I'm not sure the town would deserve a best town performance if that existed, our townbloc was incredible but we were playing against what was effectively half a team. I don't really think roflstomping should be considered a good town performance. It probably wasn't enjoyable at all for scum, but I had a lot of fun doing things with Plotinus and Tammy and Nacho at least. I enjoyed myself enough despite the difficult parts of it and the overall lack of competition, I liked the setup a lot even though I thought it was very townsided, and the flavor was really great. I hope there's a sequel!

Okay speaking seriously for a moment. I think it's a little silly to nom someone for Paragon when what you're actually nomming them for is Best Town Performance (which doesn't exist anymore) and then relegate responsibility to the judges. It's not your fault obviously that Best Town doesn't exist anymore (probably for good reason?) so it makes sense that you'd want to use Paragon as a substitute but Paragon is a body of work award so if the body of work isn't there then it shouldn't be the nomination if you want the awards to have a real sense of integrity. Obviously the whole idea of awards as a thing in itself is a little silly and worth a bit of fun more than anything but that's not an excuse imo to make them even more silly by casually throwing nominations around.

I agree that from what I read Ellibereth had some tops dayplay there, and he deserves props for that tops for sure. If he plays more games at the same level I'd be the first on board to nom him for Paragon. I don't agree that someone playing one or two great games qualifies them for a body of work award and I can think of a bunch of people who have played one or two great towngames lately who haven't even been considered as a Paragon nom. Saying that you'll amend your nom when he plays more great games kind of makes your nom shallow because it looks like you're either invested in a way that doesn't make sense for an awards process (which I think should be a mostly rational process) or just not really vetting your nom very thoroughly. Maybe I'm just being Doctor Stiff O'clock and overly legalistic but I think nomming people for things that don't really fit the nom cheapens it and expecting the judges on top of that to sort through the noise isn't a super great approach overall.

Like, it's not a completed game until February, and since ongoing games don't exist for all intents and purposes, it wasn't really a game until February.

Civ Mafia doesn't make a lot of sense as GotY because it was a pretty shit game from a gameplay/player perspective but that wasn't a fault of the design and from a design perspective it definitely deserves recognition I think!

Yeah, I was traumatized for a few months after that game, probably some of that still sitting in me too, all the people I loved were mafia gaslighting the fuck out of me. It made me never want to play mafia again. Kind of why I don't let myself get emotionally involved in games anymore.
