I think advocacy for millers knowing that they are millers is a relatively recent thing.

: At the start of the game, the Town is told the identity of the Golden Child. The Golden Child is also a regular Sane Cop. If the Golden Child dies, the Town loses.
3 Protectors
: As long as any Protector is alive, a Nightkill attempt on the Golden Child will fail. In effect, they are each Docs who can only protect the Golden Child.
5 Townies

. They win if they can nightkill the Golden Child.

A day start would probably be appropriate.

I'd be interested in seeing the results of a simulation.

I don't see the appeal for millers who don't know they're millers, from a design perspective. Strikes me as bastard-modding.

The only thing I can see is that in an open setup, a miller who knows they're a miller has a valuable claim.

a. I believe that there hasn't been an Open game with a miller yet
b. I thought the consensus was that a normal miller is told in his role pm

which assumption was I mistaken in?

To be honest I've never played in a game with a Miller, and they are pretty rare. The few times I've read games including them, it appeared as though they were not informed. Also the few times I've seen scum claiming miller, it's always proposed as "I must be a Miller then" if a cop gets guilty on them. While this strategy is generally non-viable anyway, it seemed like the only way it could possibly work is if Millers don't know they're Millers.

I think there is a near-consensus (though perhaps not!) that it's best if a miller knows that he's a miller. I don't remember any claims about which way is "normal" though.

Has anyone suggested a smalltown setup yet? How about this...

1 Cop (gets innocent on SK)
1 Watcher
1 Vigilante
1 Jailkeeper
1 Faith Healer (50% doc)
1 Martyr (doc who dies if he stops a kill)
1 Suicide Bomber (day ability; kills the suicide bomber and another player)
1 Copycat/Mimic (duplicates any other player's night action to a target of the copycat's choice; can duplicate mafia kills)
1 Double Voter
1 Bulletproof (2 uses, doesn't stop SK)
1 Vanilla
1 Super Backup (gets the role of the first player to die)

3 mafia, 1 SK, 8 town. Day start.
