tool is pretty great, certainly, but their ceiling is lower than DTs by far as far as the musicianship ability (which is not fucking slight to tool because they are great musicians - DT is just in a class of their own, well with like, wagner or mahler, that's who they get classified with)

ever heard the tool stuff by the strings ensemble?

oh, portnoy is a fucking tool and no way does the personality of the bands have any comparison that is no doubt

I've never had the ability to go see Dream Theater (he's not in it anymore, hasn't been for a bit), but I've seen Adrenaline Mob and umm, something else he did, some project, fuck what was that? hmmm....bunch of weirdos but the music was decent enough
