So this weekend I went camping with some friends, and there was a lonely gym and two pokestops in the camp parking lot. We had a lot of fun completely taking over the Gym and training it up to the heavens with our noobish 400-600 bug pokes.

Then I go back to my university town and every single gym in the area has a 2000+ CP eevee evo sitting on on it :sadface:

Has anyone else had mixed results with the Eeveelution naming trick? My first three worked, but my next two failed. So now I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, and if some of the first were just flukes.

First three eeveelutions before I knew about naming: Flareon, Vaporeon, Flareon

Next three eeveelutions with naming:
Sparky -> Jolteon
Rainer -> Vaporeon
Sparky -> Jolteon

Then I did two more today:
Rainer -> Flareon
Rainer -> Flareon

I restarted the app in between naming so I'm sure that the names had stuck. The first failure could have been down to the unique naming thing, as I still had another 'Rainer' in my inventory. But the last time I made sure it was my only Rainer and it still failed. Maybe the naming does only work for the first of each type, and the other two times I just got lucky. Which would be a shame because I really want more Vaporeons....

I learned it from a reddit thread, which suggested that it only works 100% with the first use of each name. After that, it's like 80% of success.

Speaking of supposed easter eggs and rumors, has anybody else tried out the upside-down catch? Supposedly, if you turn your phone upside-down (with the receiver to the floor) your catch rate goes up. I definitely have a better catch rate doing this, but it's certainly not 100%, and I can't guarantee that it's statistically significant.

I have not tried turning my game upside down, but I do generally cock the phone to the side to get a straight throw after using a berry since those cause curveballs.

There was a Snorlax lying by the side of the road, and I miraculously caught it, red circle and all, on the first try with a Poké Ball. Am I a Pokémon Master now?

I am still worried about the weight of some of these pokemon, especially ones being evolved. I don't think Earth actually has the proper pokemon foods here.

Learn to swipe like your life depended on it. You will need Pokémon Candy to power-up or evolve your Pokémon, so transferring is necessary if either interests you.

I went to the football stadium. It's heartbreak warfare out there. Gyms were changing colors left and right.

Had to go tho cuz my dog was all melting.

My personal goal is to claim the gym by my house. Already got my evee near to the level of the big pidgeon.
