His mechanics were good, sure, but there were a lot of (at the time) mids with better mechanics. I'm not sure if his god-mode shotcalls compensate it to that extent.

semi-unrelated, but people seem to go crazy for faker, but tbh I feel like Marin is more impressive?

Much more limited player. Very good on maokai, small champ pool otherwise. He tends to practice just a couple at a time. IIRC he gets a substantial amount of the farm of SKT.
Then, you can't really ban him out (are you seriously going to let faker have a free pick?), you can't really camp him, as bengi is one of the better supportive junglers (vision) and faker is going to lane bordering on arrogant, and whatever advantage he gets he's going to use to set up plays for his team.
He's a good player, but the environment he's in is really setting him up for success. Compare it to wildturtle/bjergsen of previous season. Bjergsen is clearly the better player, and really needed to be contained by the opposing team. In his shadow, Wildturtle could really get work done.
Surrender, imagine and of course wear something nice.
So, maybe if they could replicate that sort of environment would that help TSM? Not to the point where it's all about Bjergsen, but just so that Bjergsen gets enough pressure that Wildturtle (And hell, include Dryus/his eventual successor) can make plays. That's also dependent on WT and Dyrus/successor not sucking ass in lane and the team as a whole not making mid-game mistakes, but it's a place to shoot for.

Also keep an eye for setup review requests.
I'm not even sure who you else you could consider.
I think he's the best player yes but probably not the best player mechanically. His level of play and his shotcalling alone make him one of the best western players, but mechanics has always been one of his weaknesses.

Imagine what hai could do as a shotcaller when he didn't have to use only strategies that hide the fact that balls is well past his prime.
C9 has played with Hai's shotcalling abilities when Balls was in his prime and Hai was in his career role, mid, and they didn't do THAT much outside of NA. Given, considering this worlds performance, S3 and S4 C9 as a whole might've been weaker than today's C9 since the gap between West and East has slightly lessened, but I really don't think C9 is a team that could beat SKT, at least not atm. I'm super optimistic about the NA and EU teams this worlds but even with OG, CLG, and FNC, I can't say with confidence that they could win a Bo5 against SKT. Definitely possible, but perhaps not "likely".

Incarnation is much better than Hai ever was (sans shot calling), and Sneaky is much, much better than he used to be.

It might annoy you but despite the flash wolves upset, koo was still a fundamentally good team.

Also not a big fan that the C9 games start at 4am my time...
so that they can do tiebreakers for each group at the end of each day, rather than having to do four groups' worth of potential tiebreakers all on Sunday
I suppose that makes sense, but it's not that satisfying... for one thing, Group A's teams will have from Friday to prepare for quarters (including getting there and set up) whereas Group B's will only have from Monday.
I personally like it a lot this way, honestly. I see your point about the preparation thing, but nobody knows who they'll be playing until groups are done - I believe knockout draws happen randomly after groups are done, so that prep is just going to be straight practice time, which isn't going to be that helpful at this point.
CLG shouldn't have been trying to keep picking fights from behind against a comp that has Darius and Tahm Kench, they just didn't know how to play against the comp and got stomped. Unfortunate. Pretty sure that if CLG makes it out of groups they probably wont make it past Quarters.
