What I'm getting at is less
what I think you should run
so much as
you can still have fun within the rules set
. That list took me like 120 seconds to dream up, most of which were spent navigating to the Normal page on the wiki.

Getting a Normal setup reviewed before you send it to the NRG is kind of redundant, but allowable. If your goal is just to get this over with, it's probably not necessary to wait on an outside reviewer. I will caution you that Redirector is definitely not Normal and a variant based on it won't be either. (Also, telling people what your unique role will be like in a closed setup is kind of etc. :? )

Then I'll just try my luck. Tomorrow I'll write up a ruleset and the role PMs, and just join the queue. I'll try to think of alternative non-normal roles, worst-case scenario I'll use an even simpler set-up.

I will caution you that Redirector is definitely not Normal and a variant based on it won't be either. (Also, telling people what your unique role will be like in a closed setup is kind of etc. :? )

Ah, but you don't know the details. I'm actually not opposed to run it as an open game actually. The role is not super special or anything, but it's different, and I like different. I just prefer not to divulge the details to anyone but reviewers, before the game has started.

I can relate, Sméagol. There are some mechanics I’ve thought of that I really want to see what it would be like in a game and if it would work but they’re too abnormal for the normal queue*. Good luck with your design. I’m sure you’ll think of something good and fun.

* I’ve thought of something that might help prevent town vs town arguments from spanning 40 pages that I think would be a fun mechanic that ultimately benefits both sides (Scum could use it to shut down some avenues of scumhunting if they dared, but town could be suspicious of them for using it that way in return, and town really could use it to help move the thread on after two townies start death tunnelling each other). i don’t know if it would work in practice but i think it would be fun to find out. but i’m about 99% sure it won’t happen in the normal queue because it involves temporary post restrictions.

@narninian: yeah. though i’m not sure if i want it to be a role exactly as i put it in the grand idea thread; I think I like it better as a global mechanic. but it’s not happening in the normal queue i don’t think.

@Licky: there is a cool thread where people make up wacky roles. people can then play a game with roles randomly chosen from the thread. two of the roles i posted in that thread recently are a rough draft of the mechanic: http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.ph ... 2#p6935912

Man, I don't know if I'd even call myself liberal! There are a lot of different theory axes in play here. Raging, though, kiiiiiiiiiiind of.

I don't know if I'm actually standing against anyone on the flavor thing. For all I know, it's just an amorphous spectre of bureaucracy, or maybe everyone has been passing flavorful opens all along and I just didn't get the memo because I haven't reviewed one yet.

They have, just not in the Normal queue. :shifty:

conservative, stuffy, obtuse

since the original team has mostly turned over I imagine it's different now

I want to do a series of games based on Archer (the FX series). One game per season, likely all in the Mini Theme queue. Interest?

Upick Invitational = Upick X = game where mod picks a player and invites them to the game. That player picks another player and invites them to the game. This continues until all 11-13 slots are filled. Then all players pick 3 roles they want to be. Mod makes balanced setup based on roles

thoughts?

That would be an issue though I don't think it would be that bad of one since there is only one pick per player

What exactly is the sites policy on popularity contests again?

I'm off to bed in a minute, and I'm not thinking straight anymore (it's so hot here), and this wasn't thought through to begin with I think.
And; I know Marathon is the place to experiment, but I'd like to know if this set-up is worth trying there or if there's inherently something wrong with it. I don't know.

I was thinking:

Zombie mafia:

[5] town vanillas
[2] town 0-shot vigilantes
[1] mafia vigilante enabler
[1] mafia vanilla

vigilantes can "buy" a shot from the vigilante enabler, they start out with 0. The vigilantes know there is an enabler, but don't know who. The enabler knows he's an enabler, but doesn't know who he enables. If the enabler dies, the vigilante can steal one last shot before turning vanilla.

The twist: both town and mafia must not only fight off each other, but also the oncoming zombie horde. Every player who dies (whether lynch or kill), returns, after skipping a phase, as a neutral zombie. Zombies have a factional kill like mafia, and therefore need to die.
Town needs to eliminate all threats.
Mafia needs to match or outnumber town,
and
elimate all zombie threats.
Zombies need to eat everyone.
Killing a zombie sends it back to the grave for good (can be lynched).
Both town and mafia need to co-ordinate their kills, some of the available kill options need to be used on zombies.
Dead players still waiting to rise from the grave don't count for win conditions.

Something wrong with this?

Anyway, off to bed.

In the works.
Twilight Zone mafia.
Large game, strange mechanic's in mind.
Co-mod and balancer will be needed.

I wonder if Natirasha ever ran those MTG games he was talking about...

That said, I'd be interested in running a MTG U-Pick based around the Planeswalkers. I've been considering a game where players can choose what colors they want to play as a special mechanic.
