Seriously though, my robot will be named (non-derivatively) Tobanikom.

Nobody will get this joke.

Damn, now my name sounds dull. It it too late to change my robot's name to "Hammer of Mokina"?
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

Ugh...

I might as well call mine CoolBot or something just to avoid copyright issues.

Oh man. This game is a BITCH to resolve. 14x14x10 games to figure out and calculate... ugh.

Anyways, I was happy to see the All-Foe bots lose; more than one person claimed that they had broken the game by submitting that bot.

Samruc and Sudonym had practically the same bot, which played quite interestingly - it was very, very cautious; it never lost points, but if the opponent trusted it for long enough, it scored big. Nice design, but both could have been improved by a "Always Foe on the last round" clause.

Mccoyn's bot was a very nice idea. It accepted the minimal losses from the All-Foe designs in exchange for repeated, large scoring against the trusting bots. Then, it played the inevitable backstab at six - cashing out on the extra points before the opponent defects anyways for the tenth round. Another important point of this bot was a subtle difference in wording - the bot only cooperated if
both
players chose friend on the previous round. This allowed the bot to sidestep pitfalls that Blackberry, Guardian, and Pooky fell into against Xyzzy's bot - In the setups, the two would alternate between Foe/Friend and Friend/Foe such that they would both lose a significant amount of point. With Mccoyn's bot, though, that didn't happen - the cycle would be cut off once Mccoyn dinged xyzzy for two of the points back.

For the next round, I guess I'll mod it again. Any suggestions for changes in point value, now that we've had a game under our belt? Any requests for rules mutations? Let me know.

Glad you want to mod it again, Pie. I suggest we limit the number of bots in each round to maybe eight or ten, to keep it on a reasonable amount of games.

I thought this was great fun. You might want to reduce the penalty of -3 to -2, to get some friendlier bots (or would the symmetry be a problem?). Besides, I probably would change the rules for the last round, to be +2/
-0
for backstabbing, otherwise the scoring seems just fine.

I'm up for a new round, whatever the rules. :)

If you do a new round, definatly /in. I'd probably keep -3 as -3.

Yeah, I was going to change my bot to exactly what McCoyn had the day before but I was curious how the "All foe" bot would resolve. Thing is, if more bots had opted to program randomly, or with a set pattern, then McCoyns idea would have been shot to hell. But with everyone doing either "Always" or "If then, Always" it worked out perfectly for him.

I hadn't even considered an all-foe opponent. Basically, I thought friendlies would be popular so I started out friendly. To minimize damage from people trying to manipulate my program I lock on to defect if I'm back-stabbed just once. And of course, with two friendlies whoever back-stabs first wins! I would have lost if there were too many friendly bots that waited longer to back-stab.

I could mod some games. I think it would be easy to write a program to run the games. I'll let Pie run this round though so that everyone gets a chance at taking me out.
