It doesn't seem that slow to me...?

Anyway I don't think the open queue can go as fast as a mini queue because there aren't that many games lined up in advance for the former.

It's true that some people don't like open games. Myself I'm slightly worried about having an unproven mod.

I don't see why Fire and Ice v1 and v2 can't be run. Thesp, if you schedule Fire and Ice v2 so I end up modding it... <3 forever :D

Lol how the setup of mine that has received the best reception so far is the setup that I modified/stole...

One thing: For fire and ice v2, the doc cannot self target and would be NK able. Also, when I speak of cross killing, how should that work exactly?

What I meant is that Fire is immune to NK, and Ice is immune to NK - but I think everyone interpreted it as being that if Fire targets Ice AND Ice targets Fire, both kills are negated.

I would be fine with either, and the second one actually seems really cool :)

Ooops, yeah, I interpreted it as "if Fire targets A and Ice targets A, A lives". I don't see why they should be immune to each other, except maybe for balance reasons (haven't run any simulations on it).

Mr. Flay - you did interpret that part correctly, and it should not be messed with!

I
also
originally intended to have that Fire can't kill Ice and vice versa. Should that be there? If not, would it make sense to have: if Fire targets Ice AND Ice targets Fire, neither dies.
Do not lynch me.

2 Ice Mafia
1 Temperature normalizer (doc)
6 Normal temperature townies

If the mafia cross kill, the kill is negated. If the mafia both target the same townie, the kill is negated.
I
really
like this version. Does the town control enough lynches, though? (It might, I haven't run the numbers. Lack of crosskills makes it more important to tweak the numbers right, but I like that it doesn't take the power out of the town's hands by requiring crosskills from the mafia for balance.)

I was uncertain as to balance on the first version, and am always hesitant to run single-scum games (or games without a "group" of scum, a "mafia"), but I think the second version tweaks it and makes it work. Firm up the number of townies (or confirm it as being ideal at 6) and it'll run. Thanks, my tireless Open Game lackeys!

2:2:7 day start with a somewhat weak town is balanced in my opinion.

I'm not sure about the effect of the "two kills on one target kill nobody" rule. At a glance it seems to help the town, but it could also affect scum behavior in a way that ends up bloodier for the town.

Well, it has some interesting affects; for example, it might make the scum semi-avoid the "obvious" kill, in a way similar to the way a doc does. It also has some really neat side effects; if the doc claims, and the scum want to night kill him, they either have to get lucky or they have to somehow signal in thread "Ok, tonight, fire lays back, Ice ices the doc".

Wow, I have to say that the doc claiming does not mean instant death, which of course opens a whole host of mafia claiming tactics.

I still like Fire and Ice v1 though. Maybe you could give the Firefighter/Thermoser the abilities of a watcher as well as protecting?

If we're nominating own setups...

Nominate Pick Your Poison

3 Scum
2 powerroles (Cop, Doc or RB)
7 townies

Scum picks which two powerroles they'd like.

I liked my 12-player variant better.

It occurred to me a quite interesting mechanic that could be used. It's certainly a deviation, and definitely needs balance.

Double Day Mafia

12 Townies
4 Mafia

Two lynches per day, alignment reveal immediately after lynch, one mafia kill per night. Simple.

It's like UPick a bit, isn't it? Interesting, but it could give the scum a certain edge. Not to mention that there's the whole issue of RB vs. Scum (ie, do you pick a guy to perform the kill, and he's blocked).

Maybe it could be better if the scum could pick roles from a collection of pairs. Like (Tracker&Watcher, Cop&Doc, RB&Vig, Masons) or something.

I was thinking that the three role thing would be interesting because it adds complexity to role-claims. It gives the scum 1 fake-claim to fall back on, but if the power roles die, that guy is obviously lying. It creates an interestng situation that means that it might not always be in the scum's best interest to kill powerroles.

Yes, the scum would have to pick someone.

With Pick Your Poison I'm concerned that if you played it a few times it would eventually become clear which combination the scum should always pick. I'm guessing it's doc+RB.

YogurtBandit inspired me to come up with this setup which I call
Yoguraimee C9
with his blessing (and Aimee wanted credit too)

2 mafia
2 cops
1 doc
2 townies

It thwarts the original newbie setup D1 cop claim strategy by having two cops!!

That was what I was worried about most. Maybe make 1 more choice?

I kind of like YB's pair idea as well.
Aimee wrote:I agree, perhaps it could be randomised?
Yeah, but then it takes the complexity I wanted off. Maybe randomise and tell the scum which roles are in?
