I don't play this game, but the problem with the Hunter deck from what I've seen of the streamers is UTH. Buzzard took a lot of setup and was only useful if you could 'go off'. Bad change. UTH should cost, like, five or something if they really want to fix Hunter.

UTH costing five would essentially make it useless. UTH is fine in most situations. It has synergy with some cards, sure. The issue was its synergy with Buzzard, specifically. Nerfing Buzzard was correct, but they overdid it. Making it 3-4 mana would be better. The Blizzard balance team is way too reactionary... like when they absolutely WRECKED Tinkmaster's playability by essentially making it useless instead of tweaking its ability. Similarly, UTH started as a card that just buffed all beasts to give them charge and +1 attack. Then they decided to have it be what it is now, but cost 2 mana. The nerf to 3 mana was fine.
I don't think UTH is insane because it has synergy and can board clear things... every class has crazy combos/synergy. Nobody is complaining about Shaman's Unbound Elemental+Lightning Storm combo, which wipes the board and gives you a 3/5 at the end of it all.
the real problem was that the card draw from buzzard was way too strong.
what if they made buzzard like pagle? its ability would be something like: "whenever you play a beast, you have a 50% chance to draw a card". that might have been a better change.
They could've fixed it by making it slightly more expensive but not by much, or they could've just left it as-is and made the hounds in UTH non-beasts.
having the hounds be non beasts doesnt solve anything. it would instead nerf uth, instead you would see a lot more low cost beasts like stonetusk, and a lot more chain draws from the hunter. the combo was needed to give hunters draw, but if you reduce the number of cards that are drawn, then its more balanced.
imagine this scenario: zoo v hunter. on turn 5, zoo has a strong board and 4 minions. hunter goes buzzard uth, and draws only 2 cards instead of 4. the hunter gets card draw and some clear, but not so massive of a card draw that the zoo would be punished for taking strong board control.
The worst bit is it's essentially 3 mana overpriced to do the ability.
Like, cult master is now just better than buzzard. At most it should probably have been 3 mana. Or putting it at 5 mana it HAS to have more stats than it has.
I'm not in favor of making a 50% coin flip trigger each time a beast is summoned, that's silly. That wouldn't fix the problem, as sometimes it would still end up drawing you a card every time. If you don't make UTH beasts, then there's no insane burst 5-draw combo. Sure, maybe people can get away with playing lower cost beasts to synergize, but then the card is just replacing itself, they're not actually gaining card advantage.
UTH also combos pretty well with Hyena, just for people forgetting that card exists. Having board-clearish ability and then also a giant fucking minion standing at the end is p good.

Yeah if it was death then the Buzzard/UTH combo would be more powerful and could take advantage of an already existing board state instead of having to create it.
I haven't seen a whole lot of Secrets Hunter, but I think it would be an interesting way to go about a Control Hunter build. I imagine that build would rely very heavily on Eaglehorn Bow, though, which is a significant weakness.
I guess the trade-off to doing draw on death is that you need to actually build the board state. Sweepers/removal really prevent you from doing that. It's not like it's easy to get to 7-8 mana with three dudes on the table who can trade, except against specific decks.
Cult Master is interesting in that regard, though. If you're at parity with your opponent and the board is fairly full, you can drop Cult Master before trading to hopefully keep your momentum up. And it will still combo with Unleash, just not quite as efficiently as Buzzard will. The fact that it doesn't catch you up if you're behind is a huge drawback, however.
The fact that no high-ranking constructed deck runs Cult Master is probably very telling. I'm probably just stuck with the concept in my head because I want Buzzard to trigger on death for flavor reasons.
The main point is that it wouldn't really nerf the combo with UTH at all (which was the issue) while possibly situationally making it weaker or stronger outside of that.
I've discovered it's incredibly hard not to go on tilt when you drop from rank 3 to rank 7, then run into a Handlock that goes (on the play) t2 Watcher (doesn't have to discard/pass on t3), t3 tap, t4 Mtn Giant. I put him to ten because I have Blademaster/Loot Hoarder/Z-Chow and have no other option with my hand really other than to pray he doesnt have moltens, death his Mtn. He plays another Mtn Giant, TWO free Moltens, coin, Sunfury. Faceless a Molten next turn.
Fuuuuck.
Been on a losing streak with Handlock. Tried switching to Face Hunter, run into Control Warriors and Shamans etc., tried out a modified Zeta Priest, run into Handlocks and godly facehunter starts. FFS.
