Gambit is in relegations and have a chance now of facing NIP and Alex Ich. That would be hot

Its a bit sad how Gambit has fallen apart. But I'm curious to see how a team like Alliance will do on the world stage

Alliance is probably the strongest western team right now.

I want Millenium to make worlds. They're all so good; I just wish they'd stop making mistakes.

I'm of the opinion that it was pretty bm of Alliance to do that. Sort of like Darien going Muramana Aatrox.

I take it you didn't play sports growing up?

Sportsmanship is a pretty big thing.

*shrug* Should Wilt Chamberlain have stopped shooting when he got to 60 points in his 100-point game?

No, because it demonstrated that he was continuing to try his hardest.

Getting snowball items is explicitly not trying your hardest, because those items are completely non-viable in the competitive scene.

Alliance basically said to CW, "We are so much better than you, we can fuck around and do w/e we want and still win."

I would argue that Alliance demonstrated that they are not, in fact, non-viable. It's a response to being ahead; it makes sense to buy a snowball item. *shrug*

The only circumstance in which it is acceptable to buy a snowball item is when you are doing well while the rest of your team is sucking.

Otherwise there is always a more optimal buy.

Alliance demonstrated that they are so much better than CW that they can fuck around with non-viable builds and still win. That's the bad sportsmanship.

They built snowball items because they were snowballing. It wasn't "sportsmanlike" but it was entertaining (and a case could be made that it wasn't bad sportsmanship).

In post 964, BROseidon wrote:Otherwise there is always a more optimal buy.

There is always a safer buy. At full stacks there is literally no more gold efficient item, and so I would say there is no better buy. I know what you're saying: "In no other case than when you're destroying and certain that you would not die would you ever buy an item like that, which is
almost
never going to happen in the competitive scene." Eeeexcept, that's exactly where ALL were, and they knew they could close it out, making it the optimal buy.

The question is did ALL baron bait or otherwise extend the game in order to fully stack their items when they could have just pushed for the win, and I'm not sure that's what happened. Just from watching the game I didn't feel that was what drove Alliance, and I'm sure their voice comms backed that up (else Riot would've likely taken action).

Yes, it was an overly confident move, and yes it made CW look godawful. But you know what really made CW look bad to me? Youngbuck's twitter posting about it afterwards. Dude was hurt, and I totally understand just how much it must have rend his soul. But twitting, and aggressively so, is not the way to deal with it. Unlimited takes it like a cool guy. Full disclosure for my opinion: I was a CW fan before this. Now I'm taking a step back until I see how they act in the coming weeks.

However, I think the important thing out of it is realising that CW were hurt. And that ALL won fairly. And there's a lot of facts and conjecture around this, but in the end, those two are the big things. Alliance were better on the day, and IMO shouldn't be accused of taking advantage of their huge lead to be poor sports. And that these other guys who put everything they have into a very public expression of their expertise got destroyed. And that. Fucking. Hurts.
