That would probably be ok if not for the fact that eliminations are also decided in this manner.

Not to mention the controversy of other people participating but getting a lower result then someone who isn't.

I will clarify now that the top finisher in this challenge will be immune from elimination in Round 13, but other than that, the only thing this challenge decides is Pokemon distribution.

Well, about this whole deal, it's clear that the ones winning the challenges are using orcinus as their own personal chopping block. They aren't even trying to get orcinus out, and that might turn on them as the game drags on.
And I was in the same situation as you were, Mhork (literally one round before my team's intended aces, Drilbur and Croconaw, evolved, and two before Hippopotas evolved as well). And it was annoying, sure. But that rant was kind of uncalled for to be honest.
Still, a player can simply cruise through the game after getting a strong team and stop caring about the challenges, just like orcinus is doing now. And that's not a good thing. Maybe introducing some twists, like "direct" elimination challenges (as in, not involving a Pokemon battle), might prevent this from happening, and keep the players more attentive. If there's ever a Pokeocalypse 2, of course.
